........ Todays MMO.

A obscure reference but I'm refering to things that are, that were, and that may have never been.
TNG Episode of this name deals with alternative timelines, different decisions made in history, and a possible outcome of a decision made, or a action carried out.

So on that note, STO, Cryptic and Perpetual Entertainment,

I think like most people, the original announcement of Star Trek Online was a exciting one.
We've had so many sub-par star trek games, that I had almost given up hope of seeing a good one.

Star Trek as a TV show had come to a end, and we were sitting in a kind of limbo, looking for something to do.
Then STO came along and promised to fill that void, almost fulfilling a dream.

As we know, Perpetual Entertainment were the original Developers.
They spent years working away quietly, and we awaited news of what to expect.
Then we got some concept art, som developer interviews of what we could expect and it all sounded sooo good.

But there was nothing to show for it.

Then the big news, Perpetual were bust.......... Star Trek Online was dead in the water.
The dream was crushed.....................

....... or was it.

Along came cryptic, picking up the pieces.

Problem was, there was no pieces.
What they could get from perpetual wasnt worth working with, so the dilema begins.

They effectively have to start from scratch, and did so.
And in my opinion, did a fairly decent job building a MMO out of nothing. Its a completely different vision from the one Perpetual promised, but a vision none-the-less.

And whats more, its here, in your very hands.

So what if Perpetual was the enterprise C, and what if it didnt explode in that fight with the romulans, but instead found itself in the future, cohabiting the timeline of Cryptic.......... would the world, nei, The Galaxy be a different place?

And if so, would it be a better place?

Is it better to have the STO we have, or none at all?

Personally i think what cryptic produced was a far more realistic project.
I dont think the Perpetual MMO would ever have seen the light of day, and certainly not meet the promises they made, but what do u think?

I'm looking forward to the future updates to this STO.

From what I've heard, Perpetual's project was a pipe dream.
They took investor money and spent it on a fairytale. Games don't get made purely on ideas, and if Perpetual hadn't gone bust when they did they'd probably still be milling about with pretty concept art and wonderful ideas that'd never be made.

That is exactly the problem with today's youth - too lazy to read what is actually not all that long of a post.

In reply to the TC... I agree. I like Cryptic's STO, and I can't wait for the future.

You deserve to have your high school diploma revoked.

OP, sadly, I agree with the jist of what you're communicating.
This is better than nothing but, and there is always a "but", I
see room for improvement and no, I don't mean and end to the
lag or connection issues, those are a given in that they need to
    be corrected.
