Yes, or get HY 3 when you can (You can only use that with an escort).

I have two BOF with that, I have one with HY2 which I seat in my cruiser, and I have one with HY3 which I seat in my escort.

You can only get HY3 as a tactical officer.

I dont think so, when you use one level, you dont have to wait the full CD of the skill to use the pervious level (I dont think), allowing you (I think) to use the other level a few seconds afterwards (assuming the target is still there). Its along these lines that I sometimes run 2x torpedoes or 2x mines in one facing. You cant fire them at the same time, but you dont have to wait the full CD to fire it either, so you effectively double your fire rate

is there a rank 4 HY Torp?

I guess as a Cruiser captain the highest I'll have access too is HY II?

So even if i have HY1 and HY2 on the same BO they wont share the same cooldown and can be used 1 after the other (within a 10-20 second period)?

I have my main BO with HY1 and HY2, they have a short shared cool down, so you can follow one soon after the othter. Having both on Primary BO makes it easy to hit (Alt-1, Alt2), 1 - also my forward tubes, 2 is my aft

    Level 9 of HYT1, 2 and 3 are 30 second cooldowns

There is a shared 20 second cooldown between all similar BO abilities (HYT and Spread in this case).

So with two BO's with HYT, you can use it every 20 seconds instead of every 30. It's up to you to decide if that's worth it.

But the HYT II will produce more damage than the HYT I right? (Just to clarify again)

Correct, each rank of HYT fires an additional torpedo:

    HYT1 - 2 torps
    HYT2 - 3 torps
    HYT3 - 4 torps

*edit: those torpedo's are treated individually. Each has its own independent hit/miss/crit chance and your enemies shields interact based on them individually. e.g. the first torpedo may hit shields and take them down followed by the second and third hitting bare hull or conversely, the first and second torpedos may hit hull and the third and fourth may be mitigated by some ability or a shield regen tick. Either way that's probably beyond the scope of the original question :).

But don't forget the cool down start when you activate the skill not when you fire the torpedo, You can get a back to back HY2 and HT1 if you prep the skill before you enter battle.

    Correct.

How about a tactical officer that is Flying Cruisers?.... Abilities get thrown out the window then? Useless? inflexible system?

At least before the Skill point Reduction one could be hybrid, able to put some points and fly efficiently more than one ship type..

if we are to shoe box the classes then either make it so that a tactical officer can't choose other ships than escorts, or make it so that we can use some abilities independently of the ships/class combo.

All I know is that the change to the skill points was done for Marketing reasons, but it was not designed to be limited like that.

    And it affects game play.

Awesome definitely good information to know.

If you're going to go that far, wait a little more then you can get back to back HYT2's. It's why I usually start my attack runs at ~16KM and let the first salvo go about 20-25 seconds into the countdown.

If the choice is between HYT I and HYT II, then HYT I has superior synergy with other tactical skills, especially Attack Pattern Beta I.

edit: Sorry, that's for cruisers and science ships
