Feedback: Boring...

So,

After a week playing as hard as I possibly can I find the game boring; let me explain this.

We have the same quests all the game and, while some of them feel really Star Trek, i find surprising that the space is so... easy.

What do I mean? I'm just rewatching ST:TNG and at least half of the episodes I've seen have some kind of spacial disturbance.

In STO we can explore (aka wait til the disturbances appear where we can go to a system or get a random drop for the - useles - "crafting" system), or we can get some quests (which, i have to say, have some good lore and are really nice to follow).

What it really bothers and bores me is that, apart from those lore quests, the possibilities to level up are too few and (imho) don't feel Star Trek at all.

Since I don't believe in criticism without new ideas, i thought about some kind of quests or events like the ones we have now where an enemy signal forces you to battle (thought you can escape so easily) but instead enemy ships we could have some of the space disturbances seen in the series (for instance, the void presence in chapter 2x02 from ST:TNG, Where Silence Has Lease) or wormholes taking us to the other side of the galaxy or ... well the possibilities are enormous, just see any ST chapter (or, also, some Farscape or Stargate chapters).

My two cents ^_^

I am on the fence. Maybe i am bi-polar some days i just want to bash the game and some days i praise the game.

Sure, but as it is I am enjoying it. I'd love for more exploration missions, etc. They've said they're coming, and since I'm currently enjoying myself I'm content to wait. If you're honestly bored, there's probably a core gameplay thing that's not doing it for you. That's not going to change.

im going slow, and loving the content.

But I will say it is just a teeny bit easy, and I would love a feww more levels and more mission content thrown in(am i saying that too early i am only LC7?) because flying around and leveling up is a blast for me without even thinking endgame right now.

I am looking forward to a re-roll b4 anything else.

So yeah not boriung for me, though i find sometimes I need to make extra effort with some annoying bits to find the cool stuff waiting behind...just like any other mmo i have played. There are always transitional stages where it seems a bit like "i dunno what to do.." maybe thats just me though. 5 mins later im off again.

I love this game tot he point where i am scared to talking to people about it because i might start babblng...like now..grr

    Hello,

Yes we would all like more verity but we have to accept that trying to re-create the feeling that each mission is an episode of Star Trek is going to be next to impossible. We have the day to day missions like most MMORPGS but I think STO is rather good in this area. the missions certainly beat kill 50 rats or get 50 boar meat. The end result might be the same in that it is still a bit of a grind but enough verity in terms of those patrol missions etc that your not doing the same thing hour after hour.

We also have the story arc missions which are one of missions. So far I have been rather impressed by those. They do link into each other and follow on as you would find in a film. However I doubt many people are bothing to read them. Judging from the boards and in game chat people just quickly click through the text and go off killing.

Hence most of the game twists and turns are missed I guess it would be better to give the players a choice that way they would have to read the text to follow what was going on :)

First, thank you those who answered with good reasons.

What I wanted this thread to be is a constructive point where new ideas appear.

I'm too having fun, but as a mmo player for some years I know this would get boring just before the end-game.
I always loved to level up a char and hated the end-game and I only wanted to see more options; specially about the space.

For me Star Trek is not only Klingons, Vulcans, Romulans, Cardassians, Betazoids and so on; is also wormholes, strange life-forms, logical problems (some puzzles here please!) and over everything else ethical problems.

I'm commander right now and still haven't got the chance to face myself against a moral problem where I had to choose between life and the prime directive.

I really believe this as an important point on any Star Trek serie and STO should have it too (maybe a quest where one of your officers dies forever if you follow the prime directive).

100% agree with the OP and so does Cryptic since they already announced more gameplay mechanics (diplomacy, puzzles) and a major rework of exploration during year 1.

Don't pay attention to the fanbois : of course, they'll never agree with you but will find all your ideas fantastic once Cryptic uses them :D

If you are board with the episodes or general gameplay, then why not try a little PvP?
We Klingons welcome the challenge, and promise to give you a glorius death!!!
Just so you know, it would be wise to gear up with uncommon or rare equipment as much as possibe, andd make sure your skills and BOFF skill are at max power.
If you are prepared and willing to work as a team with your fellow Feds, you can have a rewarding PvP experience.
    Then I blow you up.

Tried and it was really fun (when in the same conditions; 5 starfleet vs 10 klingons or backwards is not fun, not here not anywhere) but the queues are soooo long :S

Dunno what it is, but I maxed one toon and I'm working on a second and still playing STO constantly. I do agree with most of the complaints said about this game throughout all these posts. But for some reason, I find myself constantly logging on and having a blast. It's been awhile an MMO kept me playing this much. Been playing since November (closed beta), and still not bored.

i find the "spatial anomolies" are more set piece missions, as in the story missions, rather than the exploration ones.

I went through the commander rank over the weekend, and in that range, and first mission or two into captain, i experienced -

    - random attack from unknown ship that then vanished.
    - two unique races from TNG, one semi obscure, one fairly well known
    - a whole area re-done to simulate being in phase-shifted space (or at least re-lit, but with dramatic effect)
    - got sucked into and escaped from a "wormhole" (bad science if you ask me, seemed more like a subspace layer... >_>)
    - was sent to investigate spatial anomolies reported as being seen "swimming in space"

so they're there.. just not as often as other things like combat.

it often puzzles me why we dont have a mechanic in place to have random events happen during travel in sector space, distress calls, spatial disturbances, strange artifacts found and so on. hopefully as they flesh out more mission mechanics (and i'm strongly hoping for in-ship missions to take place like this) this sort of thing will become more common. as Delazure pointed out, they've already said they're going to put new mechanics and mission styles in place as soon as they can, and once they work out ways to do that its likely they'll come to the players to ask for ideas as to what we'd want to see.

I am a Star Trek fanboy, not a Cryptic fanboy.

I like good ideas no matter what!

Here is a good idea : make Tribbles edible for Klingon players. I can eat my Gaght and have a Rockdachino with a Tribbe for desert.
