    oi!

    I need to be able to sell/discharge ships if I'm going to have only 8 slots (and so far I can't find a way to sell them/get rid of them)

    Talk to the guy that lets you select active ship. You can discharge them form there

    Cryptic really likes caps apparently.

    Character slot cap, skillpoint cap, ship cap

    Maybe you'll be able to buy more slots for ships in the C-Store

    More ships: kinda agree with this... although, truth be told, our characters are eating a *lot* of a database, each one, as it stands.

    Unintentional imagery caused by the OP:
    A captain, sitting alone in a bar. Holds up a small, round object with the Starfleet logo upon it. Each time he rotates a part of the hemisphere, the Starfleet logo shines and displays a holo of a ship. Bar patrons can see, out the viewport next to the lone captain, ships appearing and disappearing, matching the displayed ship.
    "Gotta catch 'em all! Excalibur, I choose you!"

    Man and I wanted to play Pokemon with the ships... Thankfully I had my TOS Connie, so I could afford to let my miranda go. Sovereign is very nice, but now that I'm at my cap, I'll have to discharge more ships to get new ones =(

    They could have gone with the ST lore on the issue.

    One ship slot. Ever.

    You gain a new ship, you lose the old one, and possibly some bridge officers.

    Yea I agree with this post. Really if you only captain one ship in lore so they all ready leaning a bit. Also I wont fly my lower lvl ships again, so no big deal to get rid of them.

    hehehe, so true.

    I probably don't want 8 ships anyways, but Ill also probably eventually try most of the ships at least once just to see the component combos.

    Yeah I have no problem with getting rid of old ships, but damn recycle some of that scrap metal into some energy credits.

    They have already said why there are a limited number of ship and character spots. Other MMO's have just one character to save to the server. But, STO has 1 character, 4 bridge officers, and 8 ships to save, and each one takes up the same space as a player character. Hence why there is a limit to the number of ship/character slots. At least we'll be able to buy more from the C-store soon.

    Oh yes, that's a great reason.

    3 characters overall, but wait! You can buy more with cryptic points.

    FAIL.

    I'd like to see a setting where you can pick how you get salvage;

    You get a dialouge box for ship discharge which goes something like;

    "Decommissioning USS <fillintheblank>;

    Would you like your decommission Value Returned as;

    1; 100% EC for <insert EC Value of Decommission>

    2; 50% EC 50% SF Merit <insert EC Value> <Insert Merit Value>

    3; 100% SF Merit <Insert SF Merit Value>

    It's not like they have unlimited server space. What do you expect? We have 3 character slots and inside of each of those is the equivalent of another 12 characters. We are already taking up a ton of space.

    If the slots were available free, many people would create additional characters who won't feel like actually buying a slot. This strikes a compromise between server load and those who really want more slots.

    Your FAIL isn't actually a fail at all.

    Captain Picard "had" two ships for a time when Daimon Bok gave him the Stargazer as a gift as part of a ploy to get revenge on Picard (but he only possessed one, Starfleet owned the Enterprise--until they decommissioned it which goes for all ships in the fleet). So it's not entirely true that captains can only have one ship, however, as far as the ships Starfleet commission for captains to command; one is it. ;)

    Disk space is cheap.

    Optimizing database performance on the other hand is a different concern. I would like to see more ship slots as well, but they need to optimizer performance at the moment. Hopefully they can add this later once things are stable.

    I would support this with the exception as an Admiral its consevable to have multiple ships at your disposal in your fleet. Saying that I would prefer less ships to be avaliable as realisticlly an admiral wouldn't transfer their command unless there was an important reason. I would be satisfied with 2 ships at the RA level though, but it is a game so we can toss out reality, but should we toss Canon?

    They've actually managed to increase server capacity by 75% since launch through combined software optimizing and adding new servers. Still adding more.

    Every MMO has caps. Level caps (the quivalent of skill caps), number of characters per server cap, number of characters per account caps... STO is no different, and is mostly on par with SWG on their caps. SOE over time has optimized their DB to alllow more ground vehicles, more pets, more creature mounts, more droids, and more starships. It took time but they did it. People just need to be patient, it will come.

    Well, since a Captain in Trek is only allowed one ship, I'd say letting us have eight is more than enough.

    Don't worry, the C-store will allow us to open up more ship slots.

    Really though they have to let us have at least three slots minimum. One for old ship, one for new ship, one for Runabout or hopefully any additional small ships they decide to add in, like the recon ship from Insurrection that Data flew, the Argo, and especially the Delta Flyer.

    Here's to hoping they will give us more auxiliary craft. Please Cryptic!!!!!

    I wouldn't mind having a Delta Flyer available to use with my Long Range Science class. The outline of the Flyer is seen under the Intrepid class saucer section. :)

    Incorrect sir.

    Delta Flyer

    Intrepid-class

    What you see under there is an aeroshuttle.

    The Nova-class has something similar.

    It all takes up space. Your ships, your bridge officers, etc.

    There is only so much to go around. Sure you can add more, but there may be technical limitations and increasing capacity takes time.
