I did a quick search but obviously the word efficent pops up in a lot of threads. I made a new character yesterdayh, was going to go bolian and was suprised to see efficent there. So I made an alien instead and got that and the other 3 space skills, only to find out ingame I don't get the +5 power. Probably old news but was a let down

If that's the case, it's overpowered and needs a nerf to +.05.

I could run 15 beams if I started out with +5 power transfer.

Efficient: Provides a bonus to your efficiency stats, improving the effectiveness of many of your power management abilities. +5 starship shield efficiency. +5 starship engine efficiency. +5 starship energy weapon efficiency. +5 starship auxiliary systems efficiency.

These bonuses are NOT +5 power. They are NOT bonuses to power transfer either.

They are +5 bonuses to skills.

Take a look at the Commander skills available to player characters, under Starship Engineering. You'll notice that they're named... 'Starship Shield Efficiency', 'Starship Engine Efficiency', 'Starship Weapon Efficiency', and 'Starship Auxiliary Systems Efficiency'.

The Efficient trait gives a bonuses to those skills.

Much like how Warp Theorist gives a bonus to Starship Warp Core Training, Astrophysicist gives a bonus to Starship Operations Training, and Techie gives a bonus to Starship Engineering Training. Those are all Lt. grade skills.

Note that the trait really does nothing if you don't have points actually invested in the corresponding skills, or abilities that use them.

Ok that sounds right because I was going to say my power didn't seem to recharge any faster

Right. If you loaded up your character with... I'm guessing Efficient, Warp Core Theorist, Astrophysicist and Techie as your traits, you won't really see any visible returns unless you also invest points in the corresponding skills that each trait boosts.

Even then it's a pretty small bonus. They're percentage boosts to the final effect, not additional ranks in the skills.

Also, while Warp Core Theorist directly increases your power output, most of those other skills don't actually do anything by themselves.

Rather, having points in those skills increases the effectiveness of bridge officer (and player) abilities that are buffed by those skills.
