This has got to be one of the most annoying & unnecessary features in this game.
I often use the travel time between systems to do real life stuff, (bathroom, refreshments. phone calls, etc) only to return and find myself sitting or dead in some unknown system.
What purpose other than to annoy people does auto system loading serve?
If you mean the deep space encounters, apologists will tell you it's to prevent botting. Which is a silly reason.
I think they just did it precisely so you can't safely afk while flying in sector space, making you spend every tedious minute watching your slow TRIBBLE get from A to B. You know, just to be jerks.

Getting hit with a DSE while flying is the same as getting random mob aggro in other games with traveling. It's less annoying here, as there are fewer DSE mobs flying around.
I made a similar comment in another related thread:
Aggroing nearby enemies is pretty standard stuff in MMOs and RPGs, so why would it be different here? You need to find safe spots if you're going to be AFK, not flying through a potential war zone.

except that every other MMO i know offers a "safe" method of travel where you can go afk to take a leak or whatever.
I don't mind them. It fits with the Lore. Enemy ships out patrolling, one detects you and plots an intercept course. That's why I don't alt tab out or leave my keyboard. I open up the item or skills window and do a little bit of plotting for future skills and things of that nature. You can tell if an enemy ship is getting close to you by the color of the distance numbers Orange means your fine, white means you need to close the window and do some evasive manuevers.
Fly at an "Extreme" altitude, and you're less likely to get "Spotted" by DSE signals. -_-
Don't post again. DSEs happen anywhere and everywhere and I've even had some spawn right on top of me, moving or not, and altitude makes no difference. I've been pulled into a DSE over and over again, zoning in and out multiple times trying to escape it and continue my journey. It shocks me to see someone actually defending it.
This is a horrible feature and needs to be removed. I don't care if it's supposed to prevent "botting" whatever the hell botting in sector space is supposed to entail, or that it's akin to random mob aggro from other games which was never fun or a lauded addition to the genre. It's annoying and pointless and therefore should be removed.
I just really can't see getting that worked up about this issue...
If you get sucked into a DSE, you're the first one to hit the enemy. Once it's engaged it no longer sucks you in automatically. If you're always the first one hitting them to the point of it being annoying, watch what other people are doing to avoid them. It will involve steering, most likely.
If you want a safe travel, you're barking up the wrong tree. The only thing that removing DSE's would acomplish is to allow you to move from the point you zone into the sector to the point you need to zone out of the sector or into a system, so, literally at best, you're going to have to be back at the keyboard in 3 minutes anyways. Probably less, but I've never timed it. It's not like you can be in Romulan space and aim your ship towards klingon space, go make a pizza and watch the TV for an hour, and come back and be in klingon space.

Hmm.. You simply AVOID detection by keeping some distance. Since most are either at or below the average plane for the sector blocks, staying high helps. Does it guarantee it no? Now do me a favor and post in a civilized manner would you?
No, I wasn't defending DSEs, I was suggesting a way to deal with them.
Whats the big deal? There is no death penalty, you come back your dead, you hit respawn and warp to sector space.
I will give you that being used to MMORPG with death penalties, its a little much to get used to. But once I got my head around it, I find the No death penalty liberating. If something comes up and I have to leave the computer for a couple moments, I don't even worry, I can just respawn and pick up where I left off.

If there was a death penalty, this would be game breaking. As of now, it's just annoying and a tedious time waster. Every time you get sucked in, you have to spend up to 10-15 seconds loading in, hope you don't enter in the middle of a fray that puts you in combat, warp out and spend another 10-15 seconds loading out. Once you're out, you hope to death it doesn't suck you back in.
Over time, those 30 seconds of wasted time add up and it gets annoying. I'm as patient as the next guy, even more so, but this is a bad feature. It just is. DSEs are great if you're intending to do them, in which case you don't need to auto load into them. If not, all the auto loading accomplishes is to waste someone's time because they either warp right back out again or get destroyed, respawn, then warp back out again.
There's absolutely no reason to have them auto load.
How is it game-breaking if you the player leave the keyboard. Game breaking would be a crash, or some major loss at no fault of the player. Scenario listed, the problem lies with the player being away.
Why don't you fly around the signals if they're that annoying eh? Even better, warp out immediately and it goes away. It's a hostile contact, it's not just going to wave at you.

This actually IS the case. You can avoid a good 99+% of encounters just by flying on a higher plane. The only place where this breaks down seems to be borg space, which seems to have a lower ceiling and much bigger enemies (cubes) to avoid.

FreyarH: Did you even bother to read my original post, I used the words; "AUTO TRAVEL".

The game was never meant to have Auto Travel as far as I know. It's designed to be like the shows. As I said in my previous post, it makes sense with the lore. An enemy ship out patrolling detects you and plots an intercept course. If you don't leave your keyboard you have no problem.

Then don't use auto-travel. Set yourself at an altitude you want. Point yourself in the direction you're going, then take care of your stuff. You can't blame Cryptic's design for you not actually being there at the keyboard. You left your machine, you got sucked in, and destroyed. How is that Cryptic's fault on this one. Are they annoying? Yeah, I think so.. however that doesn't mean your actions are stupid, and the complaint is laughable.

Did you even read the original post? How the hell is OP supposed to fly around them from the bathroom?
I use the time in sector space to make sure my equipment is optimal for my crew, set skills, or sell off equipment. I'm NOT paying attention to where I'm going. I shouldn't have to, when I'm doing other stuff in the game. The auto-loading for DSE's is stupid, and should be removed.

And what about us NOT leaving the keyboard? See my above post, and stop being a douche.

By not leaving his previous system before finishing with the restroom? Jesus.. how hard is this?

So do I, but I don't get hopping mad about it.

Yes, you should.. why? Because the Federation is at war on multiple fronts even in their own territory. Hostile contacts won't just turn around, hail you.. and if there's no answer, leave you alone.

Those MMOs also offer fast travel methods as well as random mob aggro not requiring me to to watch 2 loading screens just to get back to where I was before the random fight.
Which wouldn't be so much of a problem if I didn't have to sit for an extra 2 mins with "server not responding" in red at the top of my loading screen.
Sector space is so boring since it looks like your ship is moving at a snail's pace. I usually try to use that time to look over my powers, boffs, etc, but one thing that is driving me nuts is whenever you contact starfleet your ship comes to a screeching halt That's when the enemy contacts like to pounce on me too.

Thank You!!: I wasnt even going to answer that ridiculous response.

Agreed: I cant think of any other MMO that has AUTO travel where this happens.
There be irony in your post.
