Cryptic, please give me a reason to continue playing.

I've done everything in the game it seems. let me say I very much like the concept of this game, the space combat is very enjoyable, and I don't mind the ground too much.

Now here will be the major problem for star trek online, there is nothing to do, but suicide in PvP for gear. That and ONE daily. One thing I'm very curious about is what is the point of doing good at PvP in this game. There is no record of wins/losses, there is no advantage to winning that I can see. So why bother even trying to win? Nobody will ever know you did after you leave that instance.

Then there is all of the endgame content that we are always building up to do, it's supposed to be the goal of a game right? Get to the end so you can experience the super cool stuff. Hmm that just seems to be missing.

I mean I pre-ordered this game being a gamer and a star trek fan, and am seeing huge gaping holes in content that is necessary for a release.

I just really hope that Cryptic does something amazing in the next 3 weeks because I can't see a point to renewing my subscription after the end of this month, I have hit the plateau in Star trek online in 2 weeks that has taken me years to attain in other games.

You've never played a Cryptic MMO, have you? These games are not about the "endgame". If you powerlevel to the end, you just missed the entire game.

"It's about the journey, not the destination."

I have never reached endgame in a MMO EVER I ge bored after about 4 months atleast thats the longest i played any MMO and that was lotro which i played JUST AS MUCH as this.
    This game is rediculously short.
    Patheticly infact.

It can hardly even be called an MMO ive played single player games that were longer oblivion?

The only reason to play a game, ANY game, is if you're having fun in it. You seem to be looking for an extraneous reason to keep playing...like loot. There is NO loot in any game worth playing for if you're not having fun.

As far as no one knowing what you've done in PvP...so? Even if there was a kill board what would that accomplish? Would you flip open your laptop at a bar and say to the hot chick next to you, 'Heeey babeeeyyy! See that? Numero Uno on Fed kills in PvP! I am da KING!" and expert her to melt into a puddle of completely compliant goo? "Ooooo baby! Phase me! Phase me like I was a BOP! Hit me with that high yeild photon you big stud!" is probably NOT what she'll respond with.

Or, maybe years from now, lying on your death bed...your family surrounds you....trying hard not to cry, little Niexist the 3rd climbs up on your bed and says, "Grandpa...please tell me about how you WTFPNWed a fed cruiser in STO..." At your funeral, will they have banners with your PvP score hanging over the coffin?

I'm not trying to rain on your parade or anything, but this is just a game. And games are meant to be enjoyed; to have fun in. You seem to be looking for meaning, but I'd say you're looking in the wrong place. I know when I'm on my death bed the last thing I'm going to be thinking is "Oh, I really scored high in STO!". I'll probably be thinking, "Ouch ouch ouch god this hurts ouch", but I digress.

Just sit back, relax, and enjoy yourself. If you find you're not having fun here, try another game. Lords know there are plenty out there. But if you want to find meaning, do it in the real world. What you do out there is FAR more meaningful then anything you will EVER do in the game. I mean, sure, I saved Miral Paris' life in the game. But in real life? I've saved REAL people's lives. For some reason, THAT'S what I find myself proud of.

Sorry but a game that charges a monthly sub should be about both.

"It's about the journey, not the destination." Doesnt work if they are trying to maintain a subscriber base.

I don't know about that. City of Heroes has been around for nearly six years now, and the only "end game" content they had for the vast majority is a fight with a giant jello monster that gets popped once a week or so then ignored. They've managed to do pretty well for themselves with the idea that you don't have to have an "endgame".

Yea well if Cryptic made the game so short you can finish it before the month is up, then I guess they can kind of forget about earning subscriptions.

Really, cause I thought all that fuss about the Architect feature was to help with the over whelming calling out for some endgame? Strange.

You may be missing part of the point. What if someone named a game after your country, some old friend, or something you cherish in life, some memory, then it was made different. You would have attachment and feeling to that. can you understand that some people have empathetic attachments to concepts and ideals. And those attachments were part of their expectations. So then they may feel a bit let down, or even taken advantage of, I know the fault is partly their fault. the fault was to trust, hope, and optimism in there purchase, not the worst of faults, but they also want it to succeed now for there own feelings they invested in anticipations. Can you empathise with people that have those feelings?

Your ability to understand that is as real world as things get, it is about how people relate and think of other groups and sub sets of society.

I would hardly call the Architect an endgame, considering that it is entirely possible to do nothing but player-created content from right out of the tutorial up to the level cap, if one were so inclined. I'd say it is more an answer to the constant demand for more content that all MMOs face.

And you care about that for....what reason? Unless you're a Cryptic or Atari stockholder, who cares? And if they go out of business or close the game down...again...so what? After all, you're all done with the game. You've finished it. Why should you care?

Exactly, I have the option to A: stop playing so i dont lvl, therefore have a reason to pay my monthly fee
or B: play reach end game have nothing to do and not play my monthly fee.

Playing and not paying the fee makes more sence. I get the full experience I save money.
Maybee if the games around in a couple months i can come back.

    IF its around

    Aw geez not this again...

Look if your going to complain about how a new game lacks endgame content thats coming you aperantly missed the point of playing through the various episodes (which are actually pretty entertaining to do.)

this game has barely been out two weeks (as of this post) and personally I would expect this game to offer content compelling enough to make me want ot enjoy the game via it's content towards the end of my level cap. I would also assume that by the time I made it to Rear Admiral 5 there would also be more content available. With that said I would also assume that it will take more than two weeks to get to the level cap if I don't rush myself,of which i'm not btw.

Long story short if your that bored of playing this game then try another class type combo (atm i'm playing a Borg Eng/Sci combo) which will give you some ideas on how to play other character types. If you can't find that remotely interesting then well there isn't much else I can recomend other than saying quit and come back in a few months.

Let me see, i played Lotro myself (and still doing) and i´m quite sure with 4-5h / day (which is a lot of playtime i think), i can´t believe it takes you 4 months to reach the level cap even with crafting and fun playing. I don´t know if you´ve played it with launch, but there was also the so called endgame content missing in the first time. Yes, you can probably lvl sto faster anyway, but the problem stays the same. With such amount of time you can spend for playing, no online game will give you enough content. And well, do you really think for 13 bucks you get 4-5h fun every day, every month? Thats btw. one of the reasons i´ve LTS here as well as in Lotro, so for me it doesn´t matter. In between i have the price for LT in Lotro two times in, and the entertainment i´ve received in that time was absolutely ok for me, and i´m looking forward for sto to be the same case, perhaps i´m wrong, you´ll never know.

Just wanted to chime in and say that I too am having a problem with how short the game is. I love a lot about STO and was looking at one point at bring my wife into the game with me, but after just a couple of weeks I'm more than halfway through the game. I actually canceled my sub yesterday hoping that a couple more months of fine-tuning on Cryptic's part would make a meatier game for me to return to.

(And before the infamous STO forumers flame, I have been taking my time reading and enjoying the game)

Everyone who is posting that theres no endgame and the such, you do know that when WoW launched, Dire Maul was endgame. It took time to get "real" endgame content into the game.

Why do people build this strawman every single time End Game gets brought up here? I dont care about a game that launched 6 years ago! Name the end game content at launch for STO, I want to hear you say it, cause I would take DM rather than NOTHING!!

The argument that we "rushed through and didn't enjoy the game" is hilarious in itself. I highly doubt that ring around the planet missions count as enthralling in the very least. I give credit to the 2% of the missions that had story and thought put into it though, very fun. I hope the future patches will have more fun missions that require more than scanning x of this killing x packs of that etc etc. I love the game, But when I hit cap in a game and the only option is to do it again I feel that the only thing that was rushed was the launch of the game, not my play style. I must add that Tribble breeding and Science team viral matrix locking everyone has been the best part of the game so far <3

You are quite wrong my friend. WoW had Stratholme, Scholomance, lower Blackrock Spire, Upper Blackrock Spire and Blackrock Depths. And any of those instances was a challenge with a 5 man group.

Dire Maul was in the first content Patch (1.2) which was also the Release Patch for Europe.

I think, Onyxia and Molton Core where open as well.

At launch, unfortunate all we've gotten repeatable explore missions and pvp, though assuming you've been keeping up with the news that situation should be rectified within about a month. How much they really give us is of course still up in the air a bit, probably won't be enough to satisfy a lot of people.
