Leveling is too fast

I purchased the lifetime subscription because when i tried it in beta i really liked the game. but now that i'm commander 6 in less than 2 weeks of moderate playing and i feel like i got ripped off. I'll be admiral in less than 2 months of playing then what? replay value is 0 since every character does the same missions regardless of class and i dont really have much interest in PVP.

The leveling speed is a HUGE problem. i've noticed admirals everywhere. I even saw an admiral 5 days after launch. Being max level in 5 days SHOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE even playing 24/7. The point of an MMO is not to reach max level in a hurry it's to enjoy the game and explore, play with friends and do missions. but you can't take the time to do level appropriate missions when you level out of everything in hours. If you wanted everyone to be max level so fast then why even have levels at all? Should have started everyone at admiral.

I'm very disappointed that i wasted so much money on this game and i wont be buying any expansions.

The total time played to hit admiral differs from player to player but generally its around 80 total hours played at least. (Just like any other MMO) And many players will take longer than that. And finally STO is an MMO raidisodes will start rolling out soon starting with 5 man. And just like any other MMO what do you do at Max level? Grind raids or PVP. For you I would suggest raids.

But there will always and I mean always be people who will play straight through non stop with no sleep to Hit max level quickly. Not a thing that can be done about that the leveling rate is fine as is.

Very true. My buddy hit Admiral with 5 days of in-game /played time (@120 hours).

If I played 2 hours a day it would take me @ 60 days..

If I played 10 hours a day it would take me @ 12 days..

My buddy played around 16 hours a day and it took him about a week.

I played EQ1 for 9 months and never reached max level. i also played EQ2 for 5 years. i had 2 characters at max level after that but no where near max AAs. STO leveling is somthing like 50 times as fast as i'm used to.

Like any MMO, your mileage may vary.
The level cap will still be there when I get to it.
However, I do think we are leveling too quickly.
About 10-12% slower would be a nice leisurely pace that can still be steamrolled, if you choose to, without too much effort.

I play about three or four hours a day. And since the game came out I just hit Commander 1 about 2 hours ago. It is too fast for the shortlived story, but we have to deal with it for now. Hopefully they didn't devote the entire programming team to fixing current issues and some are working on new story misions and expansions to give each player more uniqueness.

Right now STO is a very limited WoW. Just like WoW was initally.

they are trying to copy some of the features that help the longevity of the game as WoW does.

    1. They are focusing on end-game content
    2. Badge item purchases
    3. Daily quests that give you badges to purchase epics

unfortunately, if they are going to do this...

    1. release the game with TWO working factions. Not 1 1/2 working and 1 1/200th working

What you call "the point of an MMO", others call a grind. Too many players believe that a MMO doesn't start till end game. So they rush through the game missing most of it.

Now I agree with you that leveling should be the most important part of an MMO. I also think the leveling should have been at least 150 plus hours for Admiral. But, there would not be enough content for that. As well as complaints left and right in CB complaining that leveling took too long. Both of those lead to fast leveling.

Content is coming, things will be added. The Devs have said that at the 45 day mark, they would be a large patch. It may not be as large because of the small patches we have had and are getting, but it will be there.

I caped it at 45th lvl (RA 5) in about 5 days of played. (Like 4 days 22 hours...)

Its faster then any MMO i tried in the past and i played about 8 MMOs. (since UO in 1999...)

So im Admiral... Now what ?

I don't think leveling is fast, I think you just play too damn much.

No matter how much the rate of leveling is nerfed, there will always be hardcores who don't eat and don't sleep, and who choose to breathe Star Trek Online 24/7 as their only means of staying alive.

I think leveling is fine, leveling as a Klingon needs to be quicker...not slower..why? to reduce the sense of repetitiveness and increase the sense of progression...forcing Klingons to slowly grind out those repeatable kill quests and pvp scenarios is torture.

I did WoW as well and leveled fast... then lost interest even after new things were introduced. This time for STO, I'm taking my sweet time as I also have a life to deal with outside my laptop.

    Bull.

Games like WoW can have pre-expansion characters reach 60 in around 1 day /played.

No subscribe a friend or other shenanigans - these were the first speedrun times posted by players.

If you play 8 hours a day for three days, you've done 1 day /played.

If they had the pre-order get ahead weekend, that's 56 hours over those 7 days (5 you mentioned - minus downtime), if you did 8 hour shifts.

I have played a total of sixty hours and I'm only just now Lt. Cmdr. 10.

Leveling doesn't seem too fast to me.

That's Great I played EQ1 for over 5 years and I can say that yes some people can spend a huge amount of time leveling. Others can go from 1 to the level cap and be fairly well into AA in 3 or 4 days.

The sad truth of the matter is there is no good way to address this. Try to slow the pace of the fastest players and you bog down the slower players to a snails pace without really effecting the faster players.

A perfect example of the variation in leveling speed.

When compared to the old school EverQuest or Asheron's Call I don't think an MMO has been released that isn't extraordinarily fast in comparison. Apparently a lot of people don't find killing the same thing repeatedly for a thousand hours to get a few levels "fun" anymore. Looking back, I can say literally spending weeks sitting a Tuskan camp wasn't all that fun, there just wasn't anything better to do.

    This is SO correct....

You can be level 90 in some non-combat SWG professions in a day if you like.... (less if you are feeling wild and have the credits), 90 in a week if you power-level and don't follow any of the story

You can be level 200 in AO in a week if you like... A couple days if you go nuts... If you ignore the stories and just power level... 220 if you weren't limited by the pesky story lines and by doing the quests...

I just hit Admiral 2, and that was quick... because I followed every mission, read every story, did every mission offered to me...
    • I started play the *VERY SECOND* Head Start was up.....
    • I had experience in beta, which I played non-stop...
    • I took several vacation days and played *ALL DAY* literally... Every weekend... every night after work until bed-time (often well after a sane bedtime)...

...Had I given that amount of time and effort to *any* MMO I have ever played... I'd have gotten near or to the top level in them... But I haven't... I played STO *obsessively* but I played the actual game... and did it virtually non-stop, and am *still* not at the top rung... Casual players, with careers and lives, who *stop and enjoy the experience* will be no where near as far as I have gotten though...

People who sat in sector blocks, sploited systems, power-leveled, had their little brothers login while they were sleeping, took amphetamine and stayed awake for 36 hours straight, PvP'd in a gank squad 24/7 or *whatever* they did to be Admiral in the first few days deserve their bitterness...

PS: Having actually played the game, I can say it's pretty good... Problems yeah, but pretty good... Pity a lot of people who are sulking about content will probably never know that... Or bother to listen to anyone about it...

    Leveling speed isn't the problem.

Total lack of content is the problem.

There is only, at best, about 30 hours of gameplay in this game. So if you play 2 hours a day it might take you just over 2 weeks to do it all, but if you play 4 hours a day, well you get the idea.

The game lacks content, it's one of the smallest MMOs in scope ever created and even then it's not a true MMO, just marketed as one to have an excuse to charge a monthly fee for it. I'm truly sorry you were suckered into buying a lifetime sub for this horrible bomb of a game. :(

And the game wasn't supposed to have levels, it was supposed to be a skill-based game instead of a level-based one... But it was just another lie to trick people into thinking they were going to get to play something new or different when it was really just the same tired old garbage.
