If I could stay connected for at least 15 minutes, that would be fantastic.
Hey Cryptic, I've got a question for you. When do you think I'll be able to play? Rather than me trying
when clearly, your not ready, why don't you just email me and let me know when.
Sarcasm aside, these latest patches seem to have made things worse and the rubberbanding is
as bad now as it ever was. Just when things were improving, they have taken a serious nose dive
into crapdome.
My wife, just based on her own observations, asks me how can a game that seems down equal
to being up, is plagued with so many bugs (as evidenced by the alarming rate at which bug reports are filed)
and has such poor CS stay in business. When the server is down or the game kicks me out, she just asks me
"what else would it be(do)".
And yea, this is a ***** and moan thread because if Cryptic can't get its act together then that is just what I will do---***** and moan, till they do.
Aside from the occasional long crashes, most of us aren't having much in the way of connectivity issues. And the game has been up much more than it has been down. if you're having a lot of dropped connections you might want to contact support and see if they can help you with that.
Get ready for the apologist and fanbois stating the problem is on your end and that this is a new MMO and is to be expected. Never to give the slightest thought that maybe it is cryptics problem and that maybe that they should like actually work on it. The 25 posts an hour on the same subject is just a figment of the op's imagination.
I almost never crash or disconnect...but every once in a while get massive lag spikes that lag so unbelievably bad I have to ctrl alt delete and end the game cause I cannot move the screen or anything.

Well the OP maybe having any issue or simple expanding the truth a little to make a point. But in terms of connections, rubber banding etc I have not seen any of it. Given the state of the board and the chat in game if it was such a wide spread issue we would see more people talking about it.
While the down time for patches is annoying they do have to fix the current issues. If to do so means taking the servers off online then sadly we will have to live with it. Once the major problems have been sort out I am sure we will have less patches to deal with.

Dunno. Other than full blown server crashes, I haven't been experienced the OPs problem. Unless there's a crash, I'm on as long as I want to be. There's an occasional "server not responding" during a load screen and a bit of rubberbanding in crowded zones, never had an issue with constant disconects.
aye other then the entire server going down, i dont experience crashes. lag. server not responding messages...or anything.. i honestly couldnt tell you why.

not to rain on your hate parade but it could be your isp at least some of the time. I know it was my isp once and it was some isp on the east coast another time.
I guess it goes back to cryptic though for not provided a thin enough or connection oriented link. They can control at the application level requirements for retransmission of data.
All in all it works most of the time I find the times it doesn't work quite irritating aswell.
Perhaps the best place for cryptic to begin resolving this problem is to provide some client side coding to deterimine where the problem is and comunicate that to us through our clients. Is it my local network, isp, or server side.

I have seen...zero of these problems. In fact 99% of the time when I want to play...I get to play. If this is going on for you then I suggest taking a few minutes to cool down, contact support, get a better computer, or just leave.
And to be honest the new patches have done nothing but improve my game play with the exception of this last one which made ship combat a bit laggy for me. But overall I don't have these problems you are complaining about and I can promise you the reason you think CS is so bad is because you and many others come at them with this attitude and they really don't have to put up with it. They were just talking the other week about having over a million subscriptions. You are going to get nowhere without giving them respect and being patient.

I hate saying things like "most of us" since that tends to make those with other opinions feel backed into a corner and defensive, but I do agree with the sentiment. Aside from unexpected server downtime that seems to be happening a bit more frequently lately (once/twice a day recently?), I haven't had any connectivity issues.
Anyone that is having connectivity issues outside the ones discussed by a GM/Dev/Moderator type really should contact support.

The frustration in your post is pretty obvious, but some people are not being disconnected outside the scheduled and unscheduled downtimes that appear to be no more than a couple times a day. I definitely think the unexpected downtime (server crashes) are too frequent and seem to be getting worse in the last few days.
From what the OP seems to be implying, and perhaps you are in the same group as well, there are some that are being disconnected more frequently. For those that are, Cryptic should be providing technical support. That said, that doesn't make players not being disconnected the enemy.
Other than crashes and the occasional rubber band no problems.
You might want to take a breath before blaming Cryptic for everything and investigate your connection with your ISP or do a traceroute to identify a problem from your house to the server.
9/10 times these issues are problems the users end/ISP or a connection issue on the way to the game server. A bit of self help goes a long way to getting them fixed.
All you have to do is think about why so many thousands are playing no problem for hours and hours at a time from all over the world (aside from servers crash or patches etc) and then think "It might be my end".
The fact that you connect to the internet means nothing.
The fact that you play other online games no problem means nothing.
I had similar issues some years past with DAoC and once the problem was identified (failed/poor connection on one of the hops to game server) my ISP sorted it out in a couple of days.
By doing this you can not only help solve your own issues but those of others who hit the same problem "hop" as well.
Question: Sometimes my character will rubber band (spring back) while I am playing. Why is that?
Answer: Rubber banding happens when the game server and your Star Trek Online client briefly become out of sync and your character will appear to skip back to where you were in the world a few seconds ago. This can sometimes happen if the server is under a heavy load or if the network latency between you and the game server increases. You can diagnose the issue by doing the below steps:
Run a trace route:
Click on Start
Click on Run, or if using Windows Vista just skip to the next step
Type cmd into the dialog box and press Enter.
In the window that opens type "tracert patchserver.crypticstudios.com"
Check the speed listed on the return If you see any hops over 180ms, this could be the cause of the rubber banding.
How to acquire, run and read the Nettest tool:
Go to http://files.champions-online.com/nettest.exe
Download the application and run it (Windows 7 and Vista users make sure to right click the icon and run as admin if you are having issues with the tool running.)
The Nettest tool checks that the ports required for patching and playing Star Trek Online are not blocked or filtered. Good values returned from the Nettest tool look like:
Column 1 and 3 have values around 500 kb/sec (outgoing/incoming), column 2 has values around 20 kb/sec (transfer rate). If the values in these columns is less than what is expected you may have filtering or blocked ports either on your personal network or from your ISP.

When it disconnects, I can jump onto Youtube or the Microsoft server and download at the max speed of my connection. It used to be in what was officially recognized as the beta period that I could play while Newsleacher was downloading the latest episode of Lost. Now, I have a hard time and it has only been recent, with the latest update. I was fine before then. I cannot help but think its related.
everyone needs to think of an instance server the same as a call centre
when one enquiry line becomes full it lets out an engaged tone, but people calling to the same call centre get through on a different line thats not as busy
theres alot of low level players, high level players arent going to see the same server problems that low level people will

Here is a screen cap...it isn't my connection to Cryptic.
You sure it's not network problems between you and Cryptic's servers? I played several hours today and had no issue - except once I got queued entering a map. (Took ~3 minutes to get in.)

Gee, if only software existed that could localize connectivity issues on the internet...
Traceroute shows only latency at that moment between you and the node you're checking.
You traced the patch server - this is the same as the server farm that serves the game content to the client? Do we know if Cryptic has multiple points of presence?
Did you ping continuously throughout the session to get a baseline and look for any drops?

So the client and connection I use while playing the game is stable, it is the game design issues that are the problems I think on.

I wasn't aware that I had, please, support your BS with a fact, like a recent thread.
Yea, thought so, no go run off and play with your dolls.
