Inventory

Why do we have limited inventory? I'm flying a star ship for Christ sakes! OK maybe items like deflector dishes and engines should take up space, but why am I limited to a couple dozen tribbles and some food? Most of the stuff I find is very small considering that I have a whole ship at my disposal.

The answer to this one is simple, all the items for everyone and thier alts are stored on the server. there has to be a limit or in time they would have to add server space just for our items.

Ummmm, maybe because a spaceship has limited room to store things because unless it is a dedicated transport ship it's main focus is on transporting those annoying little carbon based lifeforms and making sure they survive when getting into fights.

And they had to settle for a balance between real life and a game universe where the more inventory space you have the bigger the memory usage needed for it.

But the good news is that as you gain ranks your inventory and bank space will increase too.

There has to be a cargo area on all ships. And what about stuff like armor? I cant hang it up in a closet? And all the food I find, can't I just stick it in the mess hall?

Also memory shouldn't be an issue. It doesn't take that much memory to store a few more items per character. Hell there don't seem to be that many items in STO so even if everyone had 1 of everything I don't think it would be a memory issue.

The alternative is to store things in cubic meters... which would cause problems when turning in quest rewards and you get a massive impulse engine as a reward.

Keep in mind you have more inventory than just what shows up with you hit the 'I' key. Items in your action bar don't count towards your inventory. Also, you have your personal bank which you can hit up when you visit SB. Personally, this is where I store all the things that are too precious to get rid of yet I can;t/don't want to sell ... items like weapons that are above my rank, data samples, PVP stuff when I'm playing the storyline missions, etc.

EVE stores things in cubic meters and I think it works wonderfully. As for quest rewards, they are put in your hanger at a space station. I see no reason why STO couldn't do something similar. It would beat the hell out of having a blood pie that takes up as much room as a deflector dish.

This isn't eve. Besides, just about everything groundbased you can store on your bridge officers. They are essentially free inventory space if you have officers that don't come down to the surface with you.

a few more items you say? ok for the sake of arguement lets say just 10 more items per person is allowed, multiply that by 100,000 characters and then you start to see it add up.

and yes 100,000 characters is a fair assumption considering everything stored for a character stays there even when the account is closed.
