This is NOT a "normal MMO launch"!

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
I'm a casual player, hit Commander last night.

Today is my only day off the entire week and I wanted to play some. I'm European so when I woke up the server was down for maintenence. I thought fine, I'll go get some groceries instead. Which I did, came back and the server is still down 3 PM my time, when it was suposed to be up one hour before that.

Why the heck would you take the server down on a Sunday for maintenence anyway?

That cast aside, the server has crashed what, 3 times today? I'm not getting what I paid for here, Cryptc.I can't even play the damned game. I just want to have access to the service I've paid for.

This is not a normal MMO launch, whatever the fan boys say. No game has ever had as much problems as this. If there was a "fail MMO launch" award per year surely this year's award would go to this game, and no, not for the lack of game content/ risk v.s reward gameplay, but ONLY for the fact that the server is highly unstable 24/7 and prevents people from actually enjoying the game at an acceptable level.

I expect reimbursement for all these problems, Cryptic. I gave you my money for 2 copies of the game, now use that with whatever else you've gotten and create an acceptable level of service for your customers!

Oh and for the record, as much as I love Star Trek I'm going to cancel my subscription. The service Cryptic currently is providing is just unacceptable. I hope they fix it before my free time runs out.

Wait, your only day off is Valentine's day, and, instead of baggin' chicks, you're going to QQ about server downtime?

Wait, maybe not everyone unlike you is only able to pull one day a year! *chuckle*

And since she signed her name Ms. Celice, maybe Jedi should learn to read before running his mouth ...

Everything about your post seems contradictory, your a casual player that only have one day off a week if I understand correctly. Yet your a commander, and you know how about the average MMO launch?

    @ the OP...

Clearly you never played WoW at launch.

Blizzturd pulled it from the shelves at one point and even gave their players 1 month free subs.

It was so bad it took 30 minutes to move an item from the inv to your character.

And I'm not even a fanboy of this game - I'll admit this game has issues.

We do need more servers or a severe surver upgrade.

This is around normal downtime for a major mmo launch. It'll calm down in a week or two once the server load balances out.

take WoW for example, that game was unplayable for a good 2 months after launch. It still has its problems now. Go and check their customer service board 3.4 of their servers were took offline because they were unplayable. One of their servers, threall, crashes 3-4 time every day, and has done so for months.

So you see, you are whining about nothing.

    Celice....

I completely understand how you feel. Star Trek Online is the greatest that I can never play. Of friend of mine said "This could be the greatest game ever made, but it doesn't matter if you can never play it" This game is not meant for the person who has very little time to play, and wants to just play for a few minutes before they have to do other things. If i wasn't off work right now, I would never be able to play because I wouldn't be able to sit around and wait for the game to become available.

I am also not agreeing with the articles that STO is posting, sayiing that they had a "great first week". The first weekend after the release was a complete failure. I think I got online about 30 minutes last weekend, due to "server maintenance".

The game is great.....but if i can never play it....what does it matter?

Put it this way....If Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 had server issues like this; what would have happened to the fan base and what would IGN and Gamespot say? I just can't believe that there are still "bugs" after weeks of open BETA testing.

I still can't get into the Bhea System to finish a LT3 level, due to a bug.
The game is great, but sloppy.

ODST, you are a moron. You are the type of person that has to analyze everything. You need to get a life. They person that is complaining is right. This game isn't ready to be released, let alone something to pay for. Just sit in front of your monitor and look at it and keep you comments to yourself

    Thank you

Oh so true. I get a kick out of people saying how bad this launch is when in fact its one of the better ones done.

You know, even if this game had been in development since the day Star Trek first aired, it'd still have server problems. MMOs prior have this problem, MMOs in the future will have this problem. There is no way to guess for it without having someone in accounting TRIBBLE a brick and say no.

Some of you folks amaze me. You QQ about the servers being down and that you can't play but you don't realize how the system works. This launch has had few downtime than other games. As a consumer you like to think we are entitled to 100 percent up time. Even your ISP doesn't guarantee you that. Why would a game company? Perhaps you have forgotten you don't own the game. You paid for a license to play the game. Try having a little patients with this. Sheesh.

You know, maintenance is one of those things where if they have to do it they have to do it. Besides it was only 2 hours for the scheduled one, go outside, take in the fresh air, go out for lunch etc....

What the heck are you people talking about? I hit Admiral the other night and I've only experienced ONE bought of unintentional downtime (with the exception of headstart, now THAT was unplayable).

Same here, but I hit RADM last Thursday. I've also never even seen the queue everyone keeps whining about.

Leveling is extremely fast in this game. I do explore missions (because I like them) and it just happens to give ridiculously high amounts of XP.

Just pointed out something I found odd in their statements. Don't really much care if you disagree with my opinions on the game be they the ones defending it or the ones asking for improvement in other areas. But if thats how you talk to a majority of people maybe I should be the one not posting.

If this is your first MMO launch experience, then I can understand your frustration. This is, however, how MMO launches go.

MMO's don't launch bug free and server stable. This isn't an FPS with 60 people on a map.

Look all I am asking for is some way to play the game. I was really looking forward to this day of the week when I can relax and be a secret computer game nerd that nobody would ever guess that I am in real life.

Be it by fixing this one server(which I prefer, I like playing with the entire world and don't really care about ping) or by getting more servers, it doesn't really matter to me. I just want to play that's all.

That will come. It's the nature of the beast that is a freshly-launched MMO. This is actually the reason you get a free month to play. Some companies give out more free time, but those companies had a whole hell of a lot more server downtime than this, with a lot more stuff broken.

    Ummmm.....wrong

Star Wars Galaxies, Anarchy Online, World of Warcraft....and those are just the ones I was in personally. All much worse.

I understand your point and I will be here atleast until my free time expires. I'm not sure if the different free game times stack with eachother from different copies but I hope they do. I'm going to check.

Yes, if you have multiple preorders, that extra time stacks as well.

If my ISP (Telekom) would have so much downtimes with their DSL-Lines i would allready have a free month of service... in fact exactly that happened to me a few months back. Disconnected 2-3 times a day - called the hotline - 1 free month and they tried everything to change the matter for me.

What do i get from Cryptik for the downtimes that miracely happens everytime i want to use their service? What do i get for waiting hours for every update to finish because the server is slower than a snail?

If this would be an ISP we allready would have a statement and free time... period.

I allready chanceld my abo because thats not the quality of service i expect when somebody takes money for it. It's not my concern if this game is new and one should "expect" this behaviour... they take money then it should work... simple as that...

If you're new to MMO's you will think exactly what you typed OP. I understand the frustration but MMO's need to mature, the loyal community will only help it grow and make it better. This community isn't bad compared to other MMO's I won't mention but we all know who we are talking about here. Get over it or don't, your choice.
