An Open Letter to Starfleet/A challenge to our enemies

Cpatains Log USS Tillington - Lt-9 K'Rang, Vulcan Science Officer reporting…

It's been over a week since I set out on my first voyage so it seems logical that I report my findings.

Overall, I've enjoyed my time at the helm of the Tililngton, however there some areas of concern.

I've entered endless encounters with enemies who are simply no match for my abilities. The risk of losing my ship is small and the punishment for doing so is non-existant, which seems entirely illogical!

Instead, encounters are simply overlong wars of attrition with the same inevitable conclusion - this is not what I expected, nor what I was trained for.

I find it rather illogical that, as a Science Officer in-command of a Starship, I don't really need to apply tactics or skill at all. Furthermore, that the selection of crew members seems arbitrary and that equipment is random, scarce and largely without serious purpose is highly troubling.

Indeed, when beaming into ground-based encounters I've discovered that if I lead my team into combat I can actually sit down and meditate whilst the battle rages around me (slowly but with the same inevitable result)!

Perhaps Starfleet has considerably over-estimated the threat of the Orion, Gorn, Nausicaan, Klingon et al and we should, consider progressing our officers faster, providing them with better equipment and opportunies before they all seek the thrill of command elsewhere?

Unless our enemies would like to raise their game I feel I'd be better off playing 3D chess against a Tribble...
