Quick question about rare/uncommon BO's

Just wondering if there are any "space" reasons to have rare BO's. As I understand it, the only thing rare about them is they may have a number of different ground "perks". Any other reason to have them?

What's rare about them is some of their skills. They're still created using the presets we get in the character creator, so their "perks" are just the same racial traits we already have access to. However, not that many skills are easily trainable to our Bridge Officers. That's what makes the rare ones better, as we get those skills, either by having them join our crew, or training the Bridge Officers we already have.

rare BOs are only important for ground stuff
the value comes from the quality of the ground traits they got (rare has one superior)
I got myself a set of rare BOffs with "superior luck" and gave them the space and ground powers I wanted... they rock, enemies are exposed all the time, but I guess anything else will pwn too, like superior mind melt should be fun too

the powers they got are variable (you can give any BO any skill)
afaik the common ones never have level III powers

Rare BOs have both ground and space skills that you can train onto your other BOs. Some will have level III skills for either space or ground that you will not be able to obtain through any other means.

Also, BOs do not necessarily have the same traits as the defaults for player characters. Inspect your BOs to see what they have. The NPC BO vendor is a good place to start. If you find BOs there that have the traits you want, you can train the skills you want onto them
