Not really. The federation has always been heavy on the beam weapons and not so much on carriers. In fact, I cannot recall a single carrier in all of Federation history. My guess is the Federation sees fighters and then carriers as a waste of resources and life.

Unfortunately, when the Klingons spam about 50 of the fighters, it's instant win for them.

I believe the Federation may have had Shuttle Carriers, but I think that was for Medical Evacuations and what not...
But Fighter Carriers, I do believe it would be a waste of resources and manpower.... also that type of starship did not fit into the role of the Federation...
I run a T5 Deep Space Science Vessel, I was destroyed before I could even get to 9KM, how is this far from the truth? As soon as we tried going near them, they just shot hell out of us before we could fire off a single volley of weapons, even with Masked Signature, it makes no difference.
So maybe carriers don't fit canon for fed, this would make the game more fun and fair IMO. Hate to tell you, but the time for Cryptic to care about canon is just about over, their 1st priority is keeping subs, not catering to Star Trek fans.
Honestly, I think every Federation ship should have SOME carrier ability. Aside from the small escorts (T2 and T4 in the game), every federation ship has carriered several shuttlecraft and some even had runabouts in them (forget which mission it is, I think it was the one to come to the aid of the Kirk, but their shuttlebay had a runabout in it).
So, technically, the Federation does have carriers. Admitted, you rarely ever seen them launch their craft to help in a fight... but come on, the Enterprise (Base, A, D, or E) never had need to because they rocked during their respected time frame.

Yeah its a shame Cryptic has Destroyed most of the Lore of Star Trek...
but Carriers are not as powerful as some make them out to be... so if the Feds get some sort of Carrier then you will see Fed guys QQ all over the fourms about how weak they are....
Even in Groups the Carriers can be easily killed... you the Feds fly around like noobs then you will die...
Federation doesn't use carriers for a simple reason, it doesn't consider ANY life to be expendable.
The empires that use carriers simply don't give a damn about the lives of individual warriors and consider them expendable for the glory of the empire.
Want a carrier, join the IKF for now and the RE when Romulans are added, THEY use carriers.

I agree.. some Fed Starships carry upto 14 and over Shuttle craft of differnt types... The Galaxy Class Starship had 3 Hanger bays.... so those bays must have been used a lot otherwise the ship would maybe have 2... 1 for the main hull and 1 for the secondary hull for Saucer Sep operations..
Starships would rarely carry Runabouts as these are small Starships and do take up alot of room... you could replace 1 with 2-3 other shuttles...

Have you seen the missions in this game? Federation will gladly open fire before there is any clear threat. Canon is already thrown out the window.
"We are about to destroy a vessel that has 4000 people on it sir, AND we opened fire first."
"Doesn't matter, I get a promotion after this, to heck with em."

Yeah right, that's why we didn't see any Peregrine fighters in the Dominion war in DS9, and no Mirandas getting thrown into the meat grinder to get one-shotted by Jem'Hadar battleships.
Oh wait, yes we did.
Also, there have been Federation carriers in supplemental materials, the Ark Royal class from SFC II for instance, oh and the Typhon from that game nobody likes. So yes. We could have carriers.
Which would then degenerate pvp into carrier blob vs. carrier blob but if they won't fix carriers that's how it'll have to be.
Well, from a canon/logic standpoint, the Carrier SEEMS to be a recent Klingon invention. So it is possible the federation deals with it in one of two ways (both of which would work in game)
1) Create Carriers of their own with fighters that are remote piloted ala a modern day Predator.
2) Create a ship (admiral level) that has a specific role to destroy fighters. Either through a point defense, mine platform, etc.
I think the reason why carriers aren't as common in Star Trek as say Star Wars is because the weapons are so accurate especially the beam weapons. With such excellent accuracy fighters wouldn't last long. The only advantage they have is having so many numbers it might let the larger ships last longer, but fighter pilots probably wouldn't have a long career. This is all speculation of course.
If I am not mistaken, if I understand the first post but the Akira Class has fighter bays, not got that far to see if you can actually launch fighters however.

That battle was called "Sacrifice of Angels" for a Reason... they had to Sacrifice people in that case...

During the Dominion wars, didn't the federation start using small fighters? Those fighters had to launch from somewhere. I doubt they could travel such long distances on their own.

Yes? So? And? Therefore? It was a war. The Federation has proven it's willing to throw troops at the meat grinder in times of war.
This is a time of war.

No Peregrine fighters and runabouts have their own warp engines, the former were used by the Maquis a lot before Starfleet started mass producing them for themselves again.
The point remains however that these were relatively expendable ships who got shot down by the dozen.

And thats why the Federation only use them in Certain cases...
Fighters do not need live pilots. Considering that hologram tech is so advanced as to have EMH programs operating a sickbay, i`m sure you can have holo-pilots.
Alternatively, you could use drones, with robotic controllers. This would be quite a federation friendly option, especially in this game where seeker and support drones are an expendable ground force.
The point is they used them, PvP can be the case where they decided to use them again.
They are not Carrier born Fighters tho... they are pretty large Fighters compared to many other Fighters.. cuz they are ment to operate on their own with a crew of 5...

Yeah thats right, The Akira class has fighter bays in the Star Trek canon i think. I seem to remember reading that somewhere. I'd like to see that added to the game too.

The Akira was supposed to be a carrier. Also, fighters don't have to be manned, note the USAF invention the UCAV (unmanned combat airial vehicle)

none anywhere... and i dont think NPCs drop them...
This is what fed needs.

Is there any Facts on that the Akira used fighters ? and what type of Fighters ? that ship is fairly small to be a Carrier...
