Lifetime Subscription - Serious Question

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
Hi,

Ive just been looking for the customer services contact information located here:

http://www.startrekonline.com/support/billing
Question: When will I be charged for my subscription?
Answer: You will be charged for your subscription 30 days after your have registered your Game Key and entered a payment method to your account. Once your subscription has been activated you will be sent a confirmation and allowed access to Star Trek Online.

My question is why doesnt this apply to the lifetime membership, or doesit / should it ???

I went for the lifer and i was charged and the money taken from my bank the same day, I'm seriously considering applying for a full refund on the lifetime subscription.

I paid for the game, (atari UK - digital download) so i got a free month subscription, but i have been charged already for my lifetime, so who is to blame here and when does my 30 days kick in ???

Do i speak to cryptic because i didnt in effect get the product i paid for (which including the 30 days free)
or do i goto atari regarding this issue...???

Also....

I am still be constantly harased by gold sellers in game, ignoring them doesnt seem to work, you ignore 1 and get sent the same advert from the same websites from 3 more accounts...

i refer you to this too:

http://www.startrekonline.com/support/policies/behavior

Is the fact that Cryptic isnt providing me with a safe playing enviroment, where im not being harassed continuosly by hardcore salesman or a secure enviroment where items arent being scammed a good enough reason to apply for a full refund on the game and/or the subscription ???

I would also like to draw your attention to this:

http://www.startrekonline.com/node/397
Mach789: By the time I reach Admiral, will my skills be locked or will I be able to max out every skill eventually?

You can max out every skill eventually. We plan to keep adding skills to keep ahead of people, and by the time you’ve progressed through the endgame content, you’ll only have about half of the total skills you can acquire anyway.

As we have a skill cap in place now, couldnt this be regarded as mis-selling of a product.

So again would this or any of the points i have mentioned be a good enough reason to be granted a full refund on the game and/or subs on its own or even combined with the above mentioned points + the constant downtime and bug infested software...???

To the trolls, i know who you are, regardless of the complains you made about naming and shaming you on my signature.
let me please remind you this isnt an "I quit" thread, nor is it a thread that is insulting you in anyway, so please dont insult me with your vile comments...

Anyone normal that has any thoughts on this, I would be very interested to hear what you have say, specially regarding the missing 30 days and being charged before the 30 days is up...

Lifetime Subscriptions are a special preorder deal giving you benefits that the normal LTS does not. The act of faith gives you a reduced price and bonus items.

It's also important to keep in mind that the Skill Cap was put in place prior to the LTS being sold - STO was very late in offering its LTS for sale. They didn't sell LTS's and then announce a Skill Cap. It was the other way around. People going in had prior knowledge about the Skill Cap. If no one bothered to research prior to purchasing, well that falls under 'let the buyer beware.' I'd also point out that every MMO has clauses in the EULA which allow them to alter their game as they see fit, even after someone has purchased it.

OP, nobody replied because you basically gave the Tl:Dr version of "I'm a lifer, where's my free month?" After next October, they're all free months, so stop complaining.

Also, to the "max every skill" dig at the bottom, who's to say that we can't do it "eventually?" No, we can't do it NOW, but "eventually" is a pretty, well, cryptic word. As long as at any time between now and when the servers shut off, we can max out all of our skills, they haven't miss-sold anything, no matter what you think.

So you want 30 free days ontop of a a LIFETIME subscription? because you paid for it...

this has been said before. And I see you are the same poster who only a couple of days ago claimed to have been the victim of a thief.

You know part of me thinks that your life is dedicated to buyng things and then tearing them apart for reason im not sure..to get attention? To get something free?

Look if you pay for a life sub generally it was considered lunacy to worry about 30 days of play when it's now going to be free for life anyways..but IF it did need balancing then write the 30 days off to the things you got for signing up for life..you know? those perks that others cant have? thats how most people balanced it.

dont worry I wont be a continous troll, I wont be back to this thread not after the amount of time you wasted of mine the other day.

It helps me to know it's the same people making the same post's over and over rather than the majority...dont feel angry at me. at the end of the day you win. I see no further reason to come to these froums looking for some sense of sanity while this is allowed to continue. since beta all I have seen is "eipc fail " post's from people. these forums are the only epic fail..and cryptic doing nothing to stop the endless pointles soff topic threads is the only BAD fail they have made.

I know and older audinece logs into this thread...I imagine half of them dont even bother to post.

I believe you can cancel a life sub...or you can "lose" your 30 days. but I wouldn't hold out for an "option c" though im sure you will anyways.

no my questions and comments are to ask opinions on wether these are valid reason for getting a refund on the LTS and possibly the game...

Once again the trolls are here, Im not askign for my 30 days, im asking if the comments i have made are vailid reason to be getting a full refund on the subscription and possily the game, it also states STILL in the subscription information (see link in OP) that your subscription is charged AFTER the 30 days... and no point does it make reference to EXCEPT IF YOU BUT THE LTS

As for the theft from the fleet yes that was me, best way i can decribe how that has left me in very deflated with the product, its like buying a nice shiny car parking on ya driveway that night and having someone come along and break into it.... it takes everthing you enjoyed about that car away... its a MASSIVE dent on the pride you had for that car....its been spoilt its been ruined....

its not the money, its not the credits its not the theft, its the fact someone has interfered with your new shiny toy that you were so proud to own...

this post was nothing to do with the theft formt he fleet, i dont even understand why you mention it, maybe because i commented on Cryptics policy of behavour not being enforced, but in reply to me being the only person mentioning the fleet thefts, I think you need to click search and type, fleet thefts and see just how many people are saying the exact same thing....

    but back on topic...
anyone actually think these are valid reason for a full refund ???

No, that isn't a valid reason. My question to you is why you would think it is.

Not expressing a comment either way, however the UK law is thus:

If you don't believe you've been sold what was advertised or that it wasn't fit for the purpose advertised, then you first take it up with the merchant who sold it to you. The company who produced the item has nothing to do with it.

You contract is with the merchant. What they do about it, and if it makes you satisfied is another matter all together. If you're still unhappy, talk to Trading standards.

I think you can probably get your LTS refuned others have and if you do it before the 30 days I'm sure they will accomodate you. Will you get the game purchase redunded, I doubt it. I don't want to say you won't but it just too me seems like one of those areas where like any new media a purchase is a gamble.

What I'm getting here is that you've bought the lifetime subscription before the game was released and now regret doing so. So you want your money back, because you don't feel it's likely that you will get your moneys worth out of this game?

It seems like you're looking for any reason at all to undo your mistake.

no it didnt and i wasnt even charged the price that was advertised on the screen, I contacted customer services after noticed (looking at my statments) i had been charge an extra £30ish on the price shown when clicking proceed, I have a reply from customer services regarding this, UK have to pay VAT, so we automatically added VAT onto your subscription...lol would you like to see the reply from customer services... ?

I can't verify personally I have read Slackjaw claiming to have gotten his refunded and did so by calling billing support. I can't confirm it as I am not a lifer nor have I called billing support for any reason but that is definitely where I'd start.

I just dont get you OP. Don't you realize the life sub covers you for the entire life span of this game? The free month that comes with the box wouldn't really effect you at all because it not like they are going to turn ure account off when 2 years comes around and ure no longer paying for anything (or will they ?) I guess there is some truth to the saying "A fool and his money are soon parted"

There's your VAT tax notice. And yes they did say lifetime sub is billed immediately.

Currently, residents who live in the European Union are charged VAT according to the value set by their local government and can be from 15% up to 25% of the purchase. I got mine refunded--the only problem was the wait time to actually speak to someone. Bring a sanwich and a soda because the wait times are killers and the on hold music could probably be used as a good tactic in torture sessions.

No it doesn't. Ordered my Lifetime when my first pack arrived. Meaning I missed Pre-order Lifetime offer but not Lifetime Subscription. Did not get any Exclusive bonuses. No Playable Borg. No 2 Extra Slots. All I got was Lifetime and charged straight away.

Lifetime was not exclusive to Pre-order, only the Lifetime offer with Special bonuses and dioscount was but not Lifetime itself. As far as I know you can still chose lifetime under payment/subscription but You will only get Lifetime, nothing else.

I have 4 different Versions of STO and had acctullay 4x30 Days of Gametime paid, but as soon as i ordered Lifetime i was charged and 4x30 day of Gametime was "overruled". Not complaining, just stating facts.

I ordered Lifetime because i wanted it and now have it, so for me no problems. Altough they could have extended the offer of bonus items until we acctually had our ordered boxes in our hands.

Cosmic was referring to the bonuses that came with the LTS if you got it before launch, namely, playable Borg and two character slots.

Lifetime subscription covers your subscription fee for as long as the game is in service. Subscription fees are non-refundable. We make no explicit or implicit warranties on the service period of the game.

    So I'd say no refund

I'm pretty sure that warning (or something very similar) was actually up on the Lifetime and 12-month promo site long before the payment page - right where they listed the prices, they also had a disclaimer indicating it wasn't inclusive of VAT, exchange rate surcharges, etc.

To the OP: while I sympathise with your complaints, the thing is you don't really have a case. The VAT warning was posted. Plenty of people saw it. It was at the foot of the page.

If you didn't - all that means is you didn't see it. Doesn't mean it wasn't there.

You knew they were going to charge you, don't complain about it now. You could have waited but didn't. The fact that you are trying to blame anyone but yourself is absurd. You had 30 days free time but decided to buy unlimited play time right away.
