Thinking of leaving STO? Read this first

Ok there are alot of ppl saying they are going to leave. As i would like to see this game continue I decided to leave the flaming of anyone who complains to others and point out some reasons to stay.

First Complaint: Game too easy.
Second complaint: Repetitive missions.
Third Complaint: There is no MMO to this MMO.

Ok to all of the above I can only urge you to come and try out some PvP. While I enjoyed the PvE aspects of the game they can get very boring. I will admit that the PvP has alot of issues with unbalanced teams and horrific spawn locations BUT, especially in the ground battles, there is a whole lot of fun, tactics and difficulty to be had. The Maps are not very varied as yet but more will come. The basic PvP mechanic allows players to quite literally vaporise players a good few levels above them if they know what they are doing. With good team work and even teams the PvP matches can be terrrific fun and a great way to break up the monotony of the missions.

The PvP sessions are just about the only time I have actually stated to get to know the other players and now for the first time I am considering joining a fleet, simply because it feels more like an MMO now I'm getting to actually meet other ppl lol.

Fourth Complaint: Servers are always going down and constant glitches, errors, etc.

I have played in the launch period of 6 MMO's now and have yet to see ANY of them patch as often as Cryptic are. They are actually working quite hard with over a gig of patch since launch. Would have prefered the game to be more stable at launch but at least we can see they are doing someting.

Fifth complaint: No end game

Ok there isn't much of an end game as yet but that will change as more ppl reach that level.

Sixth complaint: The Klingon Defence Force is only half finished.

Ok fair enough the klingons are a little underdone to put it mildy. But there is alot of fun to be had. Even if they did decide to make klingons the poor cousin in the game they are still alot fo fun to play and with more PvE content coming It is something sure to develop in time. At some point Cryptic will realise that for any PvP to function they need to make both sides equally attractive.

Anyway I hope this gives you something extra to think about before you decide to leave. Stick around a while and lets hope you found something here to make you stay.

My point excatly, in this game, the only reson to meet other ppl is when you get insta ganked. and they call it an mmo...

"Golf clap" I addressed this point in my own thread. Those guys at Cryptic are busting their TRIBBLE$ working on this. Lay off.

Sadly this game will be a ghost town in march. It feel that way right now... ITs not a true mmo... when I think mmo I think SWG I think wow I htink even one instance (unless its dungeon type areas) and things that actually mattter. I see the story moving along but it doesnt feel like my character has any impact on the gaming universe. It feels like a massive single player game. You rarely need a group you rarely need any reason to talk to anyone. All the instancing is a big turn off and I dont think this company understands what an MMO is... what my dream STO is would be the following:

Invidiaul servers like 1 per major event in star trek history like Wolf 359 server, Sector 001 server , ect ect

    Only instancing in episodes

Interactive ships.. I wanna be able to walk around talk to my crew take the shuttle out for a spin

forced missions where I have to use the shuttle craft (happens in star trek alot)

functional bridges and other ship areas my own quarters

more npc options give them personality character let them disobey orders or give me missions where I have to save them MAKE ME CARE ABOUT THEM OR HATE THEM.

let friends come on board and help out (dont need them all the time but just once in awhile they can help crew ship aka given part of the ship to control like weapons or engines or something works in SWG...)

detailed crafting. I dont mind jumping in a freighter and hauling supplies back to my ship to craft ( and I know we have replicators but as star trek says it cant replicate everything) so let me place miners in places to harvest rare minerals I need to make some awesome device I can sell for energy credits or latinum on the market... heck let me open up an intergalactic business like a store front or even my own bar.

just some ideas I've had and wish they would consider.. but hey this wont be the last star trek mmo.. its the first a good test but its lacking in true immersion.

I've found that there was more to learn about this game than there ever was with WoW (my former addiction), and I havent even got heavily into PvP yet. I agree with some of the critique posted above but cetainly not to the point of quitting.

What you kids thinking about leaving need to do is cut back from playing this 24/7 (especially after it came out) so you can be the first to fleet admiral. Then maybe actually read some of the dialogue in quests instead of skipping through it to save time (if you're a ST fan like me, you might actually enjoy it). Finally, explore all the hundreds of ways you can mix and match officer abilities, ship consoles, weapons, etc.

Keep in mind it took Blizzard over a year to finally get a clue on how to play their cards right with WoW, and some would argue they're still missing the mark on some things.

I think you are and everyone else who believes the game will become a ghost town soon is wrong. Valid points have been raised about the game, but it seems to me people wanted everything available at launch. No game has ever done that. It is not reasonable to expect that.

Look at the main page. All that new content that they are about to release so soon after launch...it shows they are working to address concerns...and look how much seems to be directed towards Klingons and End Game content. I think they are doing a good job. If people would just give it some time, or check back with the game in several months if they leave, they will be pleased at the progress.

So long as the devs show they are not sitting around doing nothing and release new updates and patches (which have been frequent!) then its only fair to see what they come up with and enjoy. But, if you arent happy with the product, then you all have the right (and would be foolish not use it) not to pay and play.

The 'new content' you speak of should have been available from day one. I made a Klingon as soon as I could, guess what? NO PVE missions. At all. No story, nothing unique to Klingons, only poorly written excuses to PvP. How the hell do you create a game with two factions and have NO content for one whole side? Imagine WoW coming out and having NO content for Horde. Imagine Star Wars coming out and having NO content for Imperials. This is why the game is losing customers, it wasn't even CLOSE to ready to be released. Either that or the design of the game was to NEVER have any PvE content for one HALF of the game. This is basic game design 101 here.

Add in the massive confusion over the skill tree which was changed at the last minute, the lack of crafting and confusing Memory Alpha system, lack of documentation both in game and out, poorly designed PvP/Fleet encounters, boring and repetitive system and ground missions and complete and utter lack of diplomacy and exploration... all that and you think waiting a few months for content that should have been there day one is acceptable?

    Jesus.
