Could you please make Episodes WITHOUT ground combat?

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
Every time i go into an Episode i dread the moment when it says 'beam down to this and that', cause honestly, ground combat bores the hell outta me. I avoid it whenever possible. But there is not a single episode, not ONE, where you can resolve things in space.

So please...make ground combat more exciting, or make episodes without it. PLEASE!

I agree with you. They should at least put less enemies on ground map there are too much of them and it take too long to kill them. Very boring.

Hmm, I think is prolly a result of the building your captain solely for space combat, and perhaps poor balancing of expose/exploit abilities.

Wouldn't surprise me, since I know that I personally would much rather spend points in space skills than ground combat, it does make the ground missions suck though :(.

I think Episodes without Ground Combat are simply called Patrols. :)

Don't want ground combat? Play Klingon. I dont think I've had a single mission where my bridge officers and I went down to a planet...I dont know why Klingon BOs can even be TRAINED in ground skills...

There are plenty all the way through Lieutenant Commander. Later on you get more that are both. And I love the ground combats, actually want more. Of course then I'm rolling death on the ground. Even though i never really planned or built for that.

Not going to change as there's probably more ground way mission than there is space combat in most of the series.

Supporting this or at least with ground that's a technobabble puzzle we solve onboard ship without lots of enemies or any even.

Only thing about ground combat that really bothers me are those engineers with 1k+ shielding, that as soon as you pop their shield, it regens faster then you and your entire ground team can damage it. So I end up killing it as a result of the bleedthrough damage of 1 to 3 damage per shot... and they have 1k health, so I spend like 2 minutes on 1 guy for a otherwise easy ground combat.

Start teaming and actually using the expose/exploit system better.

Even with my BOs, the average spawn group lasts around maybe 30 seconds. On lucky rounds where exposes come frequently, they last 5.

Actually, I prefer ground combat to ship combat.
IMHO there aren't enough auto-party type ground combat missions.
    Those are awesome.

But yeah, I know what you mean about the solo planetside missions. I can do without the ones where you just wander around looking for artifacts. Lame.

Yes you're right. I think I will have to waste more skill points on ground skills to finish ground combat faster and return to space. I just dont like these kind of mmo's ground combat where you have to lock on a target , press button and have to wait for the cooldown. I would have prefer twitch based ground combat.

Personally I would like to auto away team more often than not. I am the captain of a federation vessel and as such would not find myself engaged in mortal ground combat every episode. If I have 1000 crew please let them get shot at I don't mind if this limits xp/loot.

    SEND IN THE REDSHIRTS!!!

I'd rather have ground combat than "Eliminate 5 enemy squadrons" missions. I just did 2 patrol missions, 6 missions in total. Out of those 6 missions, 4 were "eliminate 5 enemy squadrons" and 2 were "scan 5 items." Then I started doing another patrol mission and right now I'm working on 2nd out of 5 squadrons.

Kind of uninspiring, if you ask me.

Where did i say that? Learn to read. I said i want a few NEW Episodes that come without ground combat. Where did i say anything about getting rid of it? Troll somewhere else or learn to read. Some peoples sole existance seem to be to **** other people of and make fun of them. Get lost.

Funny, but like some others, I'd like to call for precisely the opposite.

Could we have less space combat and more ground combat, please?

    To each his own!

And that my bridge officers behave like brain amputated idiots that you have to tell to NOT run into walls and NOT to draw the attention of every living and probably also unliving opponent on the whole planet/base/ship doesnt make the whole thing any more exciting.

it is a little disappoint when the first thing you think upon warping into a system is,
"I wonder who has 5 ships in this system. Oh boy, look, what are the Gorn doing way over here near Cardassia?"

(i'm on the ground combat side, if only because I like seeing my character and bridge officers)

Heh, I actually like ground combat, to the point that my Feddie main's skills are focused on it. Just remember the C and G keys are your best friends :p

That said, I wouldn't mind seeing story chains that are almost all space, or all ground - or missions where you can opt to do one or the other - or, better yet, missions that allow one or two players to go groundside while the rest of the team focuses on space action.

Really they should make ground combat optional. Say have it so your First officer tries to stop you from going and you choose yes/no if you want to go or not. Seeing as the captain should never be going on away missions, especially in hostile teritory

Starbase 24 was almost like your last comment. If it was fully then it'd be awesome.

    @OP

I have nothing against you making suggestions, I have nothing against you having an opinion - but I do have something against the way you express both. They came across as a greedy, nonsensical display of "me, me me," and to be quite honest the Forums have been full of this and I, and I'm sure a few others are fed up of reading the same "This needs to change because I don't like it" attitude. People seem to have lost the art of forming a decent and compelling reason, which may have more people agree with you, for having something change.

I too would love to see non-combat oriented episodes, but I don't hate ground combat. I really hope they add these.

The only thing I hate about ground combat is the incredibly horrible camera. Mine sticks on everything and constantly reorients me without it showing onscreen (the game has me facing left when my character is looking right, for example). Other than that, and the lacking AI of BOs and the ability to better control them, I love ground combat.

(By the way QLanatir, nothing against you, but your signature is from the worst ST episode ever. The absolute idiot who came up with that idea for communication/language should have his fingers chopped off and his mouth sewn shut, so he can never again infect the world with something so stupid. It's like the basis for his idea was writing out a real script, and then he went back and made sure no sentence had enough information to mean anything...)

You know, you can simulate twitch based ground combat with tricky key bindings right?

I have it so that my Primary weapon fire is Left-click, and Secondary weapon fire is a Right-click with the third attack being a Middle-click. I put these attacks on tray 3 slots 1 through 3.

I then set it so that Mouse-Look is toggled via a Right-click and Drag.

I then put all of my skills in Trays 1 and 2.

The net effect is that I'm playing it like a First-person shooter, left click to fire, right-click for alternate fire, and I use 1 through 5 (and alt-key 1 through 5) for all of my ground based skills. This increased the enjoyment of ground-combat immensely for me, though it did take a little getting used to. (For example, if I'm trying to turn camera AND tap the right-mouse button, sometimes I'll take myself out of mouse-look mode, and that can be disorienting. Probably would have been better to set Mouse-look toggle mode to drag middle button, or perhaps to an actual key on the keyboard, but I like it on the mouse)

THIS! Oh god yes this would be so amazing if it were possible (I don't think it is sadly...)

But one of the missions I did recently, it had me clear an area around a planet that had a shield up, and then beam down under the shield. When I looked up I could see space above me through the shield, and I just thought of how awesome it would be if players had to split up between ground and space combat so that I could see the space combat going on above as they protect the away team trying to complete the mission on the ground.
