Characters from the Novels/Comics

So far, I've spotted Leonard James Akaar (technically a series character as he was born on TOS but primarily developed via comics and novels) and Mackenzie Calhoun (the captain from the New Frontier novels). The Excalibur class seems modeled after Mackenzie's Ambassador class USS Excalibur and I'm guessing the class ship would have been the NCC-26517-B (the novels are up to NCC-26517-A).

But I'm very eager to see what other book references have made their way into the game.

I'd think the Chalchaj 'qmey (Half-Klingon, Half-Romulans conceived in the TOS and abandoned when the Klingon-Romulan Alliance broke down) would be a good fit, probably the best fit from the Shatnerverse novels. (Some of his stuff got over the top. I mean, Kirk's hermaphrodite, half-Chalchaj 'qmey, half-human son with god powers could turn up in the game as he was born in the "Insurrection" era but that's just wacky and would feel very out of place to anyone unfamiliar with Shatner's novels.)

The novel Imzadi had a future set in 2408 with an Orion Scientist named Merry Mac who studied the Guardian of Forever. The Enterprise crew in that timeline was:

Commodore Data - Commanding Officer
Lieutenant Blair - Science Officer
Margolin - Tactical Officer
Lamont - Conn
Tucker - Ops
Hauman - Chief Medical Officer

Now, that timeline was corrupted by the death of Deanna Troi but if we go with the idea in Yesterday's Enterprise (and Star Trek 2009) that things like crews and gatherings of people still tend to happen in a corrupted timeline and we go with the idea that Cryptic folks are fans of Peter David's Trek novels (they seem to be) then it may be reasonable that this is more or less the STO crew.

Now, the beauty is, Trip Tucker wasn't even created when PAD wrote this book. And if you go by some of the books, his death was faked and he went underground as a spy. It'd be cool if they used Peter David's Tucker and tied him into Trip's lineage, as he was the best liked element of Enterprise for a lot of people in a series that otherwise failed to really wow people.

I'd love to see some reference of the cast/crew in the DS9 relaunch !! Episodes that'd feature Elias Vaughn (he'd probably be too old to be in this game at 2049...) or Ezri Dax etc....
