Crystalline Entity = Kobayashi Maru?

I tried everything - full power to engines so I can outrun the shards. Tried beating up on them 1st, and then focused fire on the CE... nothing works. Even on a full instance we only got it down to about 27% but it kept bouncing back. So, is it a no-win scenario? Does it need to be nerfed?

Tried it twice, killed it twice. So definately not a no-win fight and most certainly not in need of nerfing. It just requires some thinking rather than the "zerg it" tactics that work in most other fleet encounters. In fact it should imo be buffed further to make it less vulnerable to ramming.

Its beatable if people dont get hit by shards, if people keep getting hit by them then yeah it bounces back up. First mistake is trying to outrun them. It dosent work out that well. despite this many people STILL try to outrun them instead of shooting them down. I can still hear the screams "OMG! dont shoot the shards noob!"

If it didnt offer a decent mission reward i would just skip it.

Oh God, I hope they don't nerf it. The Hostage Ship was the only episode I enjoyed from Beta... not anymore. :(

The crystaline entity fleet action is a classic example of the anonomous griefer syndrome in gamers.

If you give a player the chance to annoy a lot of other players in a way that can not be traced back to them there will be someone who will do it.

Personally I would fix this encounter by changing the heal condition of the entity to something a player can not deliberately cause. For example the entity could regenerate at a steady rate calculated to be about half of what a moderately well equiped group that is of the correct level for the encounter could cause and the crystals just cause damage instead and home in on the top 3 damage dealers.

This would eliminate the failures in this encounter caused by people who deliberately join this encounter just so that they can prevent others from succeeding.
