seriously this game has too many bugs to get outta alpha let alone released

Ive played dozens of mmorpgs in beta. While all have had some minor occasional bugs prior to full release, this game takes the prize. EVERYTIME I play this game on a daily basis, half the **** is bugged. From the numerous respawn glitches to where medals of commendation don't even bother to show up in your progress list. Lets here it for the terrible quest interface where I have no idea wtf half the time, can't recheck on mission awards, or the crazy thing of being a new commander but cant get a exploration quest outside of low level **** that is utterly useless. Add the deepspace encounters with FLAGSHIPS camping spawn point while timer is being reset, where you can pop in and die in under 6secs is cool too.

Considering you can play an ENG, TAC, or Science officer, then a Klingon, with 3 slots, do the math....

I will continue to play this game out for the full 30days i originally paid for, however, I seriously doubt I will re-up after that. I looked forward to this game for years, could have waited longer, provided they released a stable game. Considering ALL the major bugs (can't play this game for an hr without running across several), the lack of endgame play, the bad skill system, the server not responding issues, etc, I've about had enough.

Loved the away mission by the way where all my team AND the enemy becomes invisible EVERYTIME and is impossible to finish..

actually seriously loved how my blue ship shield drop decreased in strength by 1700 points after promotion/patch. Like all the horror stories about fleets where I don't even wish to attempt getting my clan involved in this game. Really though, just too much an unfinished product to be even close to paying level, if it was a free game it would struggle. And yes, I played WOW, AOC, SRO, VCO, and more that i can bother to list in beta. This game is the most glitched by leaps and bounds. I am retired and played more beta mmorpgs and fps games over the years to count. This by far should still be in alpha, not even beta and certainly not released to the general paying public.

Facts require truth...and if you've been in dozens of MMO launches with this being the worst, all I can say is that this fantasy land of MMO's you must live in is a place I'd love to move to.

bugs bugs bugs.....seems to be on everyones mind.

personally, I don't dwell on bugs, they (unless your SOE) are generally temp. headaches.
they get fixed sooner or later.

    Now bad design.........that is forever.

This game is 20 times better than WoW was at launch.

Dude, I have accounts on more mmorpgs I can count, even years after release several still have failed to address certain bugs, however, this game is so infested by them its silly. Out of all of them, free to play, or subscription, this one really does seem the worse by a wide margin when it comes to just bad design. I can understand the issues involved with translation of stuff from asian to an international game, but this is on a whole new level, not even wow in its infancy was so bugged to be practically unplayable. I've made it to commander and yet at every turn nearly every time I play this or that doesn't work, is bugged, glitched ,etc. I will give props though, at least the rubber band lag seems to have been fixed.

Ok, now you're just pulling **** out of your TRIBBLE. I'm not going to say there aren't bugs...but I know I've yet to run into any personally since launch. Most things people have described as 'bugs' so far have just been things born of their own ignorance at the game. I'll admit this one doesn't hold your hand as much as some.

Not liking the design versus a buggy or broken design are completely different things.

Don't feed the trolls, they'll start whining about the scheduled server maintenance before you know it if you do.

I for one think the game is flawed, but so is every MMO. Most new patches in most MMO's fix old stuff and break new stuff. I do agree with the OP that the game was released too early, but it's out now and it's been far more playable than most MMO's I've played in beta than at release - and there's been quite a few of those.

On a side note, I wanted to believe that I had read the OP as saying they were "TRIBBLE" instead of "retired." Couldn't quite bring myself to do it though.

Really? Never got stuck in respawn limbo (at least 20x for me till i figured out hitting escape solved the issue)? Never spawned in the starbase in pvp yet (no fix i have figured out as of yet)? Never had mission vanish, can't enter a system u have a mission for or an away team disappear, have invisible enemies pwn ur TRIBBLE? Your lucky. Currently I have no idea how many medals I have in PVP for my level as THEY DONT EVEN APPEAR in PROGRESS. Hell, after last patch I watched my blue ship shield lose over 1k stat in strength, and its rate went in the toilet. Just to name a few. Throw in the SERVER NOT RESPONDING issues on a reg basis and I gotta say this blows.

Won't even go in to the whole fleet bank issue and numerous other TRIBBLE that has shown up in regards to game play.

I know its bugged a lot but it has great potential. Just think its an expanding universe and the ST community will want it to keep expanding. Always new worlds, improvements, PvP missions, weapons, ships. Despite the bugs theres enough content to keep us amused right now.

I came on the other night and found 3 bugs within the space of 10 minutes and I'm not talking glitches. I got stuck on the edge of sector space, I could go up or down. I went up until I could hardly see anything, just faint outline of planets. Obviously I could Transwarp but if this bug was experianced often that would be frustrating.

PvP kept putting me at the end of battles. I would wait and finally get in one to see the previous battle score board and then timer appearing telling me I was about to leave!

Can't remember the third one but I reported them all. Seriously effected my gameplay and I totally understand why someone would quit now but I wouldnt understand why they wouldnt try again sometime later. I'm not playing as often and I might not renew my subscription once it runs out until the games gets a bit more time to...mature lol

I reckon you should do the same. Just come back to it later.

Love the avatar of the comic relief. I'm retired, and outside of playing in competition leagues with my clan in games like ET,BF2,L4F,TF2,Cs:s, etc I like to try out mmorpgs like silkroad, heroes, wow, aoc, voyage century, guild wars, rose, lotr, eve, 2moons, anarchy, archlord, BBO, and others too numerous to mention. Whenever a new one comes out I tend to give it a shot.

I probably will, but at this point I don't see the reason to pay a monthly fee past the 30 days as of yet. I'll get as high level as I can (at this rate I'll max by then), then /quit till the game matures a bit. This game has potential but it got released too early in my book, not even beta quality tbh. Give the devs 6 months and it might be really cool, but as of now, released way too early.

I reckon you should do the same. Just come back to it later.

I probably will. In my opinion, this game was released way too early. Give the devs 6 months to flesh the game out, it may rule, but at this point its not worth paying for. With all the game play bugs, the lack of content or thought out development, its subpar to even crappy free mmorpgs ive visited in the past. I get the fact they want to develop it with community involvement, but thats something you do in beta not post release.

Really though, just too much an unfinished product to be even close to paying level, if it was a free game it would struggle. I could list a whole host of games released in a worse state, however, I'm simply going to say SWG, end of discussion.

I agree to an extent, but the last 2 patches have fixed quite a bunch of issues...Hopefully we will see more content that drives interaction vs. mostly from what I have seen so far as single player missions, and I hope they rework the bridge and being able to walk around the ship, etc... that is stuff that origionally got me hooked on the game that they slowly dropped so they could get the product out the door...

I'll be in game till the end of month, maybe 1 more at max or till I cap, then might come back in 6months if its still around. Currently I can't recommend this game to my friends or clan members due to all the issues. I really wish I could. The space battles rock, and for a pvp gamer the stuff is a ton of fun, its all the bugs that TRIBBLE this game up. Its like there wasn't a beta, no fixes, etc. Released way too early imo. I'm an old trekkie and if this game came out (and there was an internet) when I was a kid I'd be dancing a jig. The closest I got to this was Starfleet Battles (anyone remember that old non-computer game???) and this blows that away. Even with that said, this game needs a ton of work and should at best be beta at present.

There are certainly aspects I hope they adjust in the near future (Flagship spawning on the entrypoint of DSE's certainly comes to mind  ). As a good customer, when I experience a glitch I make my provider aware of it via Bug Report tool. Sure, this game has glitches, but overall I've had more fun with it than the majority of games I've played the last 6 years. Probably 90% of these bugs can be attested to lag.... group transfers and quest credit issues appear mostly resolved, however does anyone else have ground combat abilities on their Space toolbar that they can't remove? Locate any crates with infinite item spawns? :p

dude if they did something like star trek bridge commander or w/e it would be sweet. Nothing like commanding the ship from the bridge. They really screwed the pooch on that.

Really now...Because I run into very few bugs when im playing. Also I see past your bluff....Remember AOC or Warhammer when that was released....Ouch on the bugs and you say this is bad....Should have seen Anarchy Online when that first came out.

didnt play warhammer on release, but AOC I did and that wasn't near this level of bugs. Granted I thought the game sucked on its own and never got higher than like 20 or something, but I never noticed alot of bugs in the short time I played first month of release compared to this.

Look, I can see where the OP is coming from here and in a way he is right. STO is a new MMO and new MMOs always have severe issues, but I do draw the line when items people have been busting their nuts off simply disappear without a trace, with GMs being so damn lazy that they don't even give a damn about anything.

I don't mind server downtimes if it is to fix these kind of issues, but some of the bugs in the release now (at least the critical ones) have been reported NUMEROUS times in the closed beta. I even submitted about 9 tickets about items either duplicating or vanishing in the closed beta myself. I'm surprised that some of those bugs made it into the release and it does make me wonder if there was any point to the closed beta due to that.

However in defense of Cryptic, they had a lot to deliver in a very short time and so far they've been rather successful in that. If Cryptic keeps feeding these content patches regularly and provide ample bugfixes then that's fine by me. BUT they do need to work on their lazy GMs a LOT, especially for the European customers and they really need to find a way to help people that got hit by the more serious bugs that caused them to loose either items or entire ships (yes some people I've spoken to had their new ships simply go poof when trying to take them out in space).

I've pointed out several in this thread, as well as submitted tickets for every one I've come across. I'm not being a troll, just pointing out my disappointment in a game that shouldn't have been released to the public at this time. The reason games have alpha, beta, etc is to work out these issues, however, this game is rife with them at release. WTF was the point of beta? Was it just for PR and marketing? Granted, I didn't play on the beta even though I had the opportunity, and this isn't the first game by any stretch to have a beta and not fix sht for release. I am just saying that as an experienced gamer, this should have been alot more polished than the half TRIBBLE developed TRIBBLE released for far too much money. If I am gonna pay 50-80 dollars for a game (not counting a monthly fee), I expect it to be somewhat developed and polished (at least remove as many bugs as possible), but this is the cheapest, low rent, bs, I have ever paid money for. Free games aren't this glitched.

    Design != programming

I don't fire an architect because the construction workers used shoddy materials.

There are design issues, which are hard to fix. THey are fundamentals ideas about gameplay mechanics.

Programming issues (like misspelled words, flickering, missing textures, wrong markers) are much easier to fix.

The grey area is balance as it is both a design and programming issue (high level "feel" versus the exact mechanics "beneath the hood").

That said, this game is not nearly that bad. You'll be surprised once you get past LtCmdr. THe game picks up in complexity and difficulty.
