Transphasic torpedoes do a lot more damage through shields then a proton torpedo. How useful that makes them depends how often you fire torps into shields.
DPS isn't everything....check the damage type and stuff...also, does it do burn DPS after it hits? theres a lot of factors that can make it better.
I really believe no one torpedo type is better than another. Each have special advantages and drawbacks. Photons are just as viable at Admiral as they are at LT.
For instance, Quantum hits a little harder, but it takes longer to recharge before firing again. Hence the lower DPS. Photons fire more often, and hit almost as hard.
Ive noticed the TYPE of thing in this game isnt really important. A MK V phaser sniper rifle is probably just as good as any other type MK V common sniper rifle.
Now there's a difference between common, uncommon, and rare items etc.
But just because I have Plasma torpedoes V doesnt mean they are better than my Photon launcher V. The different types do different things and have different effects. But they're balanced and no one is better than the other.
