First I'd like to say I am enjoying the game. Is it perfect, no. Is it fun, yes! I think Cryptic has a good base for what will become a great game.
That being said I have noticed an annoying trend for some missions. I love that there are diplomatic missions and explore missions, but I have an issue with the ground explore missions in particular and in general the way stories are progressed. That issue is the TNG syndrome. What is that you say. Well I loved TNG but it took the writers a few seasons to find their grove. Those first couple of seasons the crew of the Enterprise where like spectators. They watched storied unfold before their eyes without influencing the outcome in any manner. I don't need to run to 5 glowies be they computers, plants or minerals with nothing else happening on the map just to be told by my science officer I better check some more samples to be sure. Which brings me to another issue. My captain is the one using the tricorder but one of my bridge officers tells me the results. Why don't they do the scan?
I want to see more decision making in those missions and not just me reading text. I know it's possible within the engine because of the miners diplomatic mission where you have to answer questions after talking to all the minors. This meant I had to pay attention! Make those question random and then I'd have to do more then memorize a pattern.
This game is fun, but I can see it on the edge of greatness with just a little nudge and tweaking and I look forward to many years of adventuring in STO.
P.S. One more thing ... get a playable Romulan faction into the game, I want my warbird!
