Seriously. I'm currently Lt. Grade 8, and I just vendor'ed the following items because I haven't needed any of them:

1 Mk I Stasis Field Kit
1 Suit of Mk I Energy Dampening Armor
1 Mk I Tachyon Harmonic Kit
4 Auxillary Batteries
1 Medium Shield Charge
5 Small Shield Charges
2 Engine Batteries
4 Small Power Cells
1 Large Power Cell

I'm bored! Give me a challenge! Make me use this stuff!

Oh, I thought you were talking about the CE...

Which an easy fix is make the large crystals not as common. Or not have each large produce 5 smalls to heal 5%... But the first option seems to be better.

No kidding... at this point, I've already got half the credits I'll need to buy a new ship in addition to the one I'll be given once I'm promoted.

Great, a difficulty slider. Because ballancing a MMORPG.. wait, STO isn't that... Because ballancing a MOG is just too hard, it might encourage grouping or strategy, just make a slider to nerf or buff any NPC's you need to mindless kill.

Genius. Takes all the work out of actually designing a game yourself.

Is this your first MMO? Vendor trash is pretty common in most games. Wait until you see how much fleet tabs cost. /chuckle.

Mobs will be pansies until about 30. At that point, they finally get a few teeth, though, if you know what you are doing, are still not really hard.

Best suggestion currently for space combat? Find someone else who is looking for a challenge, team up, and go solo missions. That should get you additional space mobs.

Ground mobs are a minor pain until you get your guys geared up and with some useful abilities. From that point on, right up to max level, it is an easy slaughterfest, barring the occasional mob with a special ability.

Why would I want to nerf myself with a slider because some people refuse to learn how to play? The game was easy before they made it easy but at least back then we couldn't beat them game in a freaking Miranda.

But the nice part about that is, no one needs a gold seller once they figure this out.

I pray it is not a difficulty slider they are going to implement...

    ..

    ..

    I mean ..

    I am just speechless.

What the hell kind of MMO is this?

The game is, quite frankly, almost boring enough to put you into a coma. I love Star Trek. That's the only thing keeping me going. Now, they want to implement a difficulty slider? If I want god damn SFC Ill go play that. I wanted a Star Trek MMO with a semi-dynamic universe to romp through where the stuff I did had a little meaning to it.

MMOs are supposed to be social ... The content's diffculty should be UNIFORM across the player base. When you find something too diffcult you are supposed to GO GET HELP FROM FRIENDS or find new friends. If they add this difficultly slider they will ruin the social aspect. No one will need anyone. They will just be able to 'turn the game's challenge level down."

I am starting to wonder if Cyptic knows what the hell they are doing. They are about to rip up their STO community with this.. do they even realize?

I've been playing STO quite a bit, just got into the single player aspect of it... I just like that I can be a single ship vs. the odds like in all the Trek series. This however is pretty much ruined by the fact that it is so easy. Unless it is 3+ Battleships it dies, and I don't come close to getting killed, and even if I do everything is ready to go and 5 seconds of impulse puts me right back in a fight. It just doesn't feel like there was any challenge whatsoever on the way to Admiral.

Today a buddy of mine told me a few friends have been playing a game "Global Agenda", kind of an FPS with a little rpg added, billed as a semi-mmo. I picked it up and played all evening and what a massive change in the fun level... that game is not afraid to make things difficult, it is not afraid to kill you multiple times forcing you to fail missions. It was actually fun to be challenged again after so much STO. The fun comes with the challenge, working to get better at the game and testing new things out. Currently STO requires non of this, just pick whatever skills you want, whatever ship, whatever BO's and go blow up more ships than were ever shown in the entire Trek series combined in a single mission without taking a scratch...

And a difficulty slider does nothing. A difficult mission needs to be balanced so it requires effort, not opening options and instantly making things easier.

Did it ever occur to anyone that a difficulty slider may not be to make things easier but to make things harder if you require.

    Like a hard mode setting.

So the difficulty is as it always is but if you want more of a challenge you can go hard mode. How can that be worse than leaving it as it is?

This is what a lot of folks wanted out of this game. There have been far too many threads to keep track of relating to this subject since the start of CB and they have all been ignored. Sadly they made a lot of the same mistakes in STO as they did in CO which has soured a lot of people on Cryptics products even though most people liked their first product in CoH/V. Sadly this is another Anti-MMO (certainly no massive feel, no depth and no need to group or socialize).

My personal opinion is they made the error of trying to follow in WoWs footsteps and before someone goes off the deep end on this. I'm not calling WoW out by any means, but I think its fundamentally wrong of a game company to say look at what they did, lets try and dumb down our products to capture some of what they have...And this is exactly what Crypic did. It was a large subject of debate during CO beta and there were numerous Dev posts on it.

STO will continue to survive at least until the next wave of MMO come out that aren't fantasy based like Star Wars, The Secret World and some of those.

If they add a slider then all drops should be epic when you play at the hardest setting, if i solo at max hard it should be me vs 5 ships all +5 atlest. otherwise why bother. no epics at all should drop on ez mode and no blue's.

You're still in "tutorial mode" until you hit midway through lt. cmndr or so. Some people take longer to learn the game, so it's easy for the first rank.

Just wait until you get some klingon encounters with 2-3 swordmasters with officers and targ masters thrown in. You'll wish you had all that gear. I died three times on a mission last night, and finishing it off was great. It was fun trying to keep my team standing, and when I finally beat the mission, two of them were unconscious.

PvP will be a real challenge only if your federation,
Klingons have the easy end of the deal there, they sit in cloak beyond the 10km mark till the federation gets bored then when some federation players have quit they move in for the kill.

One stratagy is all you need if your klingon.

And if your federation you need the patience of a rock to sit in the defensive formation that they can't break and outwait them.

I kill targ masters first, swordmasters second. And I still haven't figured out why the swordmasters have nothing better to do than chase me around the map. ;)

When the game came out in CB, it WAS a challenge. Then SO MANY people QQed on here that they were forced to make the game easier. There is no pleasing the fans of this game, and IF they were to modify the difficulty again, the fams would figure out that if they QQ here loud enough and long enough, Cryptic will bend to their will.

And that is why difficulty slider is the best way to go in my opinion so that both kind of players can be happy.

Perhaps a compromise would be to let the regular (Admiral Quinn) episode missions remain "easy", but increase the difficulty of patrols?

That way you have two different kinds of content, solo/casual and that which requires a team. So far this MMO doesn't have a distinction between the two.
