Hey guys,
There has been a bug that has been going on in the last few builds of the game. This is a pretty major bug that has to do with switching maps and losing items.
If you put a new item on your ship, then switch to your bridge or another map when you go back to the ship. Sometimes the items on your ship with switch back to there state before you put the new item on. This leaves a dupe of the item you took off your ship and your new Item is MIA.
I talked to Falkeren in the IRC Chat today, and he said its a none issue and they are working on a fix in the game. If this happens to you though you will have to contact CS and hope they will fix the issue.
This has happen to me 3 times, the first 2 times I was lower levels and I out grew the items I lost but now this has happen to my Mark X gear. Causing me to lose days of work and I have to hope CS will trust my story and give me the item back.
This needs to be fixed ASAP I have had a thread about it and it never got answered by a dev but they have been talking about bridge officers, skirts, and other random less important issues. The only way to get a answer on the matter was to sit in the QA chat and try to get ahold of a Dev while in there.
The form link is here and is up to 11 pages now with no offical announcement from the Devs just what was told to me in chat.

Here is the log from the chat where the matter was discussed.
Havok How do you get the ticket number?
22:07 Havok The ticket has been processed but just got a general this is a MMO things happen response
22:08 *** MiriHawke_ is now known as MiriHawke
22:08 Xaintrix That's a trickier pickle. Processed usually means it's been addressed one way or another.
22:08 Cryptic_Falkoren Anytime you create a ticket the ticket number is printed in your chat window and appears as float text on screen
22:09 ShinRaActual processed means someone read it
22:09 Cryptic_Falkoren Havok you will never receive a personalized response to any ticket submission unless it requires actual GM interaction
22:09 Cryptic_Falkoren its too time intensive to enter a non standard response when you factor in thousands of tickets
22:09 ShinRaActual replacing lost inventory is automated?
22:09 *** Kelric quit (Quit: computer going to sleep now bye bye.)
22:09 *** Kelric_Laptop quit (Quit: Kelric_Laptop)
22:10 Cryptic_Falkoren what?
22:10 Havok Yeah I know I use to do QA for activision.
22:10 ShinRaActual The bug he's reporting involves the game eating part of his inventory
22:10 Cryptic_Falkoren we know about it
22:10 Cryptic_Falkoren and we'll be testing a fix for it shortly internally
22:10 Havok You can use them here to requisition new equipment. You lost 7 Mark of Exploration Item acquired: Antiproton Dual Heavy Cannons Mk X Joined channel "Zone". Left channel "Zone".
22:10 Havok can I get it back? -puppy eyes-
22:11 ShinRaActual ^
22:11 *** Dar joined #stoqa
22:11 Cryptic_Falkoren That is something you would have to take up with C.S i don't do item grants
22:11 Havok Im going to past your post from here in the forums Fal to ease other peoples mind
22:11 Xaintrix ...
The question has been answered to me, I am not pleased I have to go through CS because that will take a few more days to do more then liklely a week plus from what I hear. What I dislike is the fact I had to track down a dev to get a answer when something this important being posted about on the threads should have been answered by them earlier if the problem was known.
Now before anyone flames me just understand if the dev's have time for post like this.
Multiplayer Outpost 2, oh the memories!
The character artists had a ton of work cut out for them with this game and as we neared launch a decision was made to focus on player character art (aliens for you to play) than having them focus on alien fauna that you would only see when on away missions.
The team is now scheduling to go back and add these alien lifeforms to make planets feel more alive. This will be in one of our updates in the near future.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. It looks like a part offset issue. When working on ship variations we sometimes need to adjust the connection points of existing ships. Unfortunately in this case it appears to have caused this hull to be offset from the rest of the ship.
We have prioritized the bug appropriately.
They have time to tell us about a bug that is taking our rare loot drops away in the game. These are only a few examples I did not feel like dragging up all the talk about bridge officers.

There can be no doubt that STO must have the worst CS department of any MMO in existence - and considering the appalling state of CS in the MMO industry, that's saying something.
Without knowing how the game's coded or what's really causing this error, i'm guessing that logging out then back in should force anything that hasn't been comitted to the database to be commited.
Dude, Im so not playing until this gets fixed. No way. Im not dealing with this TRIBBLE. Of course, I am a paying customer. And no Im not happy. Usually Im happy with STO, even when the server crashes rarely on the weekends. But not today.
But I dont think Cryptic really cares if I play or not. But I do.
I was just about to post this actually
When working on a project, most devs would love to work on basic functionality or the back-end before fluff/shiny/pretty/ooh stuff first. Unfortunately, consumers don't get to see back-end changes as a good back-end would be invisible and unnoticed when doing its job right. Since they can't see anything, the average consumer thinks that the devs are being lazy.
I'm sure that they'd love to just stop for a month or two on content patches and actually fix what's already in the game, but too many whiners using the excuse of "it should've already been in the game at launch!" don't have their priorities straight and realize that even though they're right, the game's out now and they need to fix what's already out there first or else they're just going to end up building on some rocky code and breaking something worse in the future.
Yea I hear you man. Sound logic there.
But this particular issue seems to have occurred after a recent patch they implemented. And its major. When people start loosing valuable items all over the place (permanent like) thats......awful. Game breaking even.
And we're no longer in Beta. This is customer satisfaction time. Issue is glaring. And the longer it continues the worse the rants and displeasure are going to get. I myself am about as unhappy as can be right now, but Im not ready to rant yet. Maybe tomorrow.
Again, I agree with everything you said there in your post. Good stuff. But this is an entirely different animal of mega proportions you know? A big mess. Im actually surprised there's not more of a flaming riot like outcry on the forums.
Maybe its not that bad yet, but it soon will be if left unchecked. And I dont usually take the side of the whiners, complainers, etc. But in this case, they have the right of it.
The funny part is that there hasn't been a large outcry is probably partly because it's probably not that common of a bug and that people are losing ship parts/armor/shields that they normally don't see and hence notice until they try to swap them out.
I totally agree with you. I'm currently too paranoid to switch back to my science vessel from my cruiser right now because that would involve swapping out too much parts that i'd rather not lose. I'm sure that the devs'll fix this eventually, but it really is quite annoying to be locked out of my science boff skills
The department assigned to that happened to finish the task at hand and send it to live game, then get to work on the next thing that's specific to their department and their skills, like a 3D designer. So just because these item was released before certain bug fixes, doesn't mean the department working that area stopped work on ironing out the bugs and testing it on their in house test server and getting ready their work ready for a patch in the near future.
