I just purchased one of these for one of my bridge officers, and they can't use it. When I try to equip them with it, the weapon box turns red and they just can't use it.
Whether this is a bug or intended or not, I don't know. But don't go buying any for your BO's until they fix this.

Bah! who buys things for their BO's????
They can fend for themselves or take my hand-me-downs or runner's-up dammit!
I would guess that is because the are Admiral only weps, and your BO's are not Admirals.
My BOs are wearing MK IX pulse rifles that clearly have "Admiral" tagged onto them, and have MK X Personal Shields also tagged for "Admiral" rank. This is definitely not the cause of the OP's issue, as it is not about the BO's rank, but about the player character's rank.
I don't think bridge officers are allowed to use certain blue and purple quality gear. I've seen this before with several blue items not being equippable by them

Ah now see, I did not say because they have the Admiral "tag" I said because they are Admiral only.
A fair amount of blue/green I come across cannot be handed off to my BO's for that reason.
Some you can.
So, inconsistancies by Cryptic there, but I am pretty sure that is the reason.

I also had this happen with certain pieces of equipment (weapons&shields), maybe the same with the Anti-Proton weapons.

I've had this happen with various armours.
I think they can equip up to greens of your rank. Blues from one rank below you. Not sure about purples, could be the same as blues or maybe even another rank lower, haven't had enough purples drop to check with. That's what the system -seems- to be anyway...
It would be nice if stuff like this were documented...
I bought another weapon today, a rifle, and this one my BO's *can* use, so either the arcwave gun is the only one bugged or the high density rifle is the only one not bugged, anyone else who has any of the weapons care to test it?

I am guessing because the new weapons for Admirals is to prepare people for raidisodes, and raidisodes are suppose to be multi people missions, not including BO's. Thus the weapons are meant for your main character and only your main character as you won't be bringing in BO's to raidisodes.
Thats just what I think, but yeah it should be noted that BO's can't use them.

no, it's just a bug.
my BO's can use one of the weapons I bought, so obviously there's just a bug with the other weapons that needs to be fixed.
Many people cant fit their Officers with equipment.
One person can fit their officer with equipment
Conclusion: One person who can is bugged.
I have bought shields, armor and weapons from the store and I cannot fit my officers with them. The little box just goes red indicating they cannont equip that item in the appropriate slot or ANY slot. Thus logic dictates Cryptic have disallowed officers the use of these items.
This is just unacceptable and completely unjustified.
There is no reason why Officers shouldnt be able to equip these weapons. If anything I would expect them TO be able to equip them so Cryptic can drag out the farming process as players get their officers kitted out in the finest gear available.
Heres a simple fact:
Player character
1 Day for armor
1 Day for shield
1 Day for weapon
1 Day for second weapon
5 Days for Kit
= 9 days to complete a ground pounder loadout
Bridge officer away team = 4 NPC members
1 day each for armor = 4 days
1 day each for shield = 4 days
1 day each for weapon = 4 days
= 12 days + 9 days
= 21 days
Thus it should be blatantly obvious that allowing people to equip their officers with this kind of gear adds content and progress to the game by having players being able to outfit their officers just as well as themselves.
Its bad enough this equipment forces people to go with a specific weapon type which only means PVP is going to be dominated by peaple fitting Anti-Proton resists. But now that equipment only extends to the player when one of the FUNDAMENTAL aspects of STO was the ability to customise your officers and treat it like a crafting system.
Anyone who wants to claim its 'overpowered' can simply STFU. These items are only slightly better than alternative equipment and if WE are allowed to use this equipment then there is no valid justification that its more overpowering for our away team than it is for us to be given these items. I have yet to see a pvp map that allows away teams in the mix and even if such a situation occured...
HOW is it overpowering to face off against people that would logically have access to the same equipment. If you want to moan that some people might not have this uber equipment then once again how is that any different than having a player with all purples against someone who only has greens ?
As for PVE ground.
Honestly, Ground PVE is tedious and easy because the difficulty needs to be increased. Limiting away team equipment as some sort of balancing measure is just a TRIBBLE way of balancing when you can simply give enemies higher stats, more damage and resists against Anti-Polaron weaponary.

Good to know though...
Hell yeah...

Better yet, unequip everything they own and make them fight it out with fists.

doesnt work they just go into a take a dump stance behind you
I wanted a melee BO but thats prolly something they still need to fix

Ah yeah I just saw your post.
Although I heard someone else saying the sniper rifle couldn't be used by one of his BO's? ... Or Split Beam... one of those.
