I would give it a 7 out of 10. It's fun. Still could use a lot of work in some areas and a lot of additional content to really make this worthy of the Star Trek name. I'm still unsure if Cryptic is going to pull it off or if we are going to be sitting here a year from now saying damn we fell short....

Everyone falls short, one of the reasons not to judge I guess. I try to look at peoples intents and the directions they are going, and just try to have fun, while trying to find things looking for the good stuff in them also.
So can't really rate STO yet, its all about the direction they decide to go, takes a bit of time to see that.
At its core design and gameplay, awesome. Went up against remans today and the ship models are awesome!!!! Kilingon PvE needs content. Although Aion was a muchc prettier and had a well designed gameworld that lead to better immersion, but im having blast and more fun with STO .
Ground mmissions are fun, though the details and buildings are meh, mainly on planet surfaces. Its very bare looking, like some beginner mod in Fallout3/Oblivion. Oversized interiors doesnt do well with me. Skill tree needs to be reworked.
My biggest however beef is a poor social system, which like game content, helps keep the longevity of the game going and fanbase to stay. I do undertand the devs point tthat most PvE misssions/episodes are soloable because in all of the ST series, the non-Galactic war stuff are solo'd missions by the main cast. Still, there needs to be a way to create mass server player hangout hubs and such (aka, add in player housing and trader and entertainer (buff) ty[e classes)
6.4/10
-bland planet surfaces, needs to some detailed touches to make it feel more immersive
-lack Klingon PvE
-oversized interiors
-reworked skill tree.
-needs better social system and interaction stuff.
All in all, it's not quite everything I'd hoped it would be, but it is a stable, well built platform, that with time, could turn into something truly amazing.
Graphics 6/10 (with the resources it eats up they should be better)
Content 3/10 (horrible need more chains or some sense as to why I'm doing something and how it fits in to the big picture every mission is the same)
Music 5/10 (turned it off)
Space combat 8/10 (good things going. Need full straight up and down though)
Ground combat 5/10 (pretty boring. Takes long time)
Character Customization 10/10
Maps 7/10 Ground maps feel a little halfheartedly made.
The space combat is great, the bridge officer system is great and really captures the importance of bridge officers in the tv shows. The trek-related powers are all terrific. I really what they've done with the ships in terms of what's upgradable, and how it impacts your ship combat performance. The audio is spot on. Graphics, particularly in space are quite good. Ground combat could be better, ground animation could be better, the ground areas are not that interesting.
Head start was pretty rocky. But I think they've actually done fairly well in terms of stability since the official release date. I've also been impressed by the speed at which they've been improving the system. There are light years of difference between the start of open beta and what we have now.
So far I'm very much enjoying my time in game (Commander 5 in release, and Lt Commander 8 in beta). This is the most fun I've had with a video/computer game in quite some time (and I play a lot of them) so I give Cryptic a big thumbs up. The big question for me is will they be able to add enough fun and varied content to keep me interested in the long term. I'd really like to see them push the exploration missions further and make them more interesting and more complex.

4.5 of 10. We're still beta-testing the game, and we get to pay to do it.
Fun combat in both space and on the ground, mostly loyal to the IP, nice graphics. Both team and solo friendly. Different paths to take through the game. Nice variety in abilities and equipment. The ability to customize and develop bridge officers is a nice touch.
Vague and confusing skill tree. Pathetically few character slots. A bit thin on episodes (but with plenty of things to do to fill in the gaps). Although I have no real interest in crafting, the crafting system presented is weak and not worth the effort. Although I like the instanced mission format, a lot of people will be annoyed by all the zoning.
6/10. I generally defend the game against unfiltered hate, which I think is unwarranted. But at the same time, I don't find myself really wanting to log in anymore. Just kind of "meh". Hope they add new PVP content, that would be the one thing that I would make me want to play. Or meaningful group content. Something where you actually interact with other people for a decent amount of time. That's what I enjoy about MMORPGs- the shared experience. Since there isn't much of that in this game, I find myself playing Mass Effect 2 and Bioshock 2 more often.
Space Combat: 8/10 Some problems with heavy torps and a few more tweeks with BO skills
Ground Combat: 5/10 It works, but not really fun. Better AI pathing, better cover options.
Crafting: Non-issue with me, I honestly hate crafting, I abstain.
Graphics: 9/10 A few more glitchs reworked and it would be perfect. Minor issues.
Sound: 8/10 Star Trek music, and its a 10
Quests: 7/10 Not quite Star Trekkie, but pretty decent. I will once again remind people that Klingons were always suppose to be a PvP faction based around PvP. Getting PvE content is something that they are doing because YOU the players asked for it, not something they never bothered to do, stop talking like it was always intended but never implemented.
Exploration: 5/10 I like the exploring quests, but they get tedious. It needs work please.
Skill System: 3/10 No information, horrible setup. I will refrain from commenting on the cap, because its a non-issue for me, I would be happy either way. Respec needed.

I'd have to agree.
Whatever you think of whichever US President is elected, can you really give him a realistic verdict for a week/month/year in-office?
Usually history decides how well something/someone does/is.
However, like any MMO, it's more fun when you play with others. Yes, you can solo, but I've had the most fun playing with Fleet members. Exploration missions suddenly become that much more amusing, especially the ground action. Obviously, we're jabbering on Vent the whole time.
You may cry "Foul!" but honestly, I've felt the same way about every MMO I've ever played - solo, I can only take so much, playing with others is where I find all the fun.
As a platform for this, STO is working out nicely so far.
I would also like to say, that having a more combat oriented Star Trek game instead of exploration or diplomacy is a necessary evil. A lot of RPGs are mostly combat, why? Because the majority of players want combat. Its interesting, it gives a sense of satisfaction, and there are risks involved (though without a death penalty, STO doesn't have that). Diplomacy or Exploration, yes is fun for some (myself included) but too much will be boring,
Look back, the D&D pen and paper game. It explains in detail the combat system, which takes up a lot of the rules, but also explains that, well, combat is necessary. Even your puzzle games have a sort of combat. Think about it. In Tetris or or other puzzle like games, when you "fight" against a second player. Why do more blocks appear after one player clears a lot of theirs? Its a form of competition, of "combat". Having opposition, with penalties for failing, is just something that exists, and for a lot of people, its the reason for playing.
Basically: Yes, exploration and diplomacy. No to it being the centerpiece, it should be both optional, and still involve some form of combat, because to be honest, that's what people see as fun.

Combat as competition is easy to translate, but what skills does the form of Combat require. It has good forethought, since you have to pick skills and training. It has some in combat skill, but mostly reflexive, however with out decisions or choices on missions, you lose some of the feel that you are effecting the outcome. By having different risk and rewards for different choices, then thought is more prevelant through out the mission.

At this time not worth a monthly rate though.
I'm having more fun with Farming Simulator 2009
Rating: sub canceled

Mainly because of the bugs present and many of the sup-par ship models.

Its a somewhat fun game, but not fun enough to pay $15 a month to play. My sub has been canceled.
Ground combat 7/10
Crafting 3/10
Episodic content 9/10
Gfx 8/10
Sounds 7/10
Exploration 1/10
Total : 6.5/10
Obviously, a minimal rework of the crafting system and an overhaul of the exploration would improve the game dramatically for me.
Ground Combat 6.5/10
Graphics: 8/10
Sound: 7/10

As Delazure pointed out Exploration needs a huge boost, I am interested to see how Cryptic adds Diplomacy as well.
