Well, so far my experience is very limited, but at a first impressions:
- Cash Grabbing Sequels
Well, it's not a sequel. I suppose games done after movies are kinda the same general idea, but I think STO is a solid game in its own merit. I mean, I'm not even a trekie, and I still love it just the same.
- Rude People
Well, all games have their ups and downs in the people aspect. I guess that's more like generally something about online games as a whole, than having to do with one particular game.
- Text Heavy Tutorials
... never bothered me much, so I'm not really the best player to judge it. Still, I think the STO tutorial is just fine.
Much better than, say, COH's tutorial that first sends you from here to there just to read some text (about something that won't even affect you until after you exit the tutorial zone anyway) for what seems half an eternity, before anything actually starts happening.
- Slow Patches for Big Problems
Well, other than the servers going up and down like a yoyo, I haven't noticed any major game-breaking bugs yet. Mind you, it's not PERFECT, but I haven't yet found myself thinking, "Dammit, there goes my sick day and I can't play at all without the promised TOS skirts!"
- Token Stealth or Platforming Missions
I haven't seen any yet, and I remember a single mandatory stealth mission in all 3 of Cryptic's MMOs so far. But generally, most MMOs don't have that sin, because most classes can't stealth.
- Launch Day Downloadable Extras
More like the opposite, I wish someone would take my money already for all the extras that the various retailers got. I'll pay for the TNG uniforms all right. And for the Liberated Borg. And for the Borg bridge officer. And I want a TOS enterprise just for the collection too.
Why not? I bought all costume packs in COH anyway.
This is the first time when some content is in the game, they built it already, but I'm flat out not allowed to get it, for love or money.
I mean, yeah, what happened to the idea of Launch-Day DLC? Just add it to the C-store already :P
