Bat'leth combat for Feds

OK, I want to say I love my Bat'leth.

Ever since Shayde picked one up and felt the weight in her hands, she knew the Klingons got one thing right. She loves how they don't bother with personal shields, and just cuts right through enemies.

Now roleplay aside, other than ignoring personal shields, I have been trying to figure out if any of her hand-to-hand skills really make a difference when wielding a bat'leth. I've taken hand (martial arts) to hand kits. I've invested skill points into Special Forces, Soldier, wherever it looked good. Not convinved that those do anything at all for bat'leth proficiency.

Has anyone else noticed? Are all hand to hand skills one tree, and bat'leth access that tree of skills? Or is it little more than cosmetic?

Oh, and I also love when I use an exploit attack, and she disintrigates people with the Bat'leth.

I use the bat'leth almost exclusively. Makes quick work of Borg, and of the pesky Romulan Commanders/Centurians with uber regen shields.

I use a batleth as a fed too. Fantastic fun. :) But I haven't been able to try melee skills with it since I'm a science captain.

I love it when the batleth vaporizes them too. :)

The only reason I'm asking is I haven't noticed any difference from martial arts buffs, any skill trees, anything.

Only time I saw improvement was changing Bat'leths.

They are awesome for bypassing shields on Romulans. Where they really shine in my opinion.

    Hello scary Bat leth wielders.

How can I myself get one of these fine weapons? Where do I buy one? Exchange only? Are they loot drops? Are they sold at DS9 maybe?

    Thanks. :)

Yea that I do know. They sell them at DS9 (just found out). Ive seen a guy in ground PVP (on my team) carrying one around. I should have asked then where he got his, but those Klingons make it hard to fight and type.

*Klingon rushes up on Federation player in ground PvP*

Fed: Wait wait......time out time out. Im trying to type. Some guy in my fleet needs something.

    * Klingon stares blankly, blinks twice, and kills Fed anyways*

Why bother wasting the time and skill points in ground combat when you can one shot vaporize just about anything anyway?

I've never seen it outside of tactical expose/exploit combos, and it never works on a higher mobs.

And it's fun. But I'm asking if ground combat skills even make a difference. I've noticed none.

P.S. They also can drop from Klingons. That's where I got my first one, it was a level 2. The level 6 ones are sold on DS9.

Are mek'leths available somewhere as well?
I'd prefer those to those huge thingies....

Oh yes. It is all full of awesome. I was just button mashing before.

I wish they had other hand to hand weapons. Would love to get one of the swords Sulu had in the latest flick.

I would love a Mek'leth. Not just because they look awesome though, but because my tiny Ferengi character struggles with the phaser rifles as it is, nevermind a huge batleth!
