STO Collectors Edition and STO Lifetime Subscription - Did you get your moneys worth?

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
I'm not trying to be labeled a troll or flammer but would like to have a real discussion based thread regarding the STO Collectors Edition and STO Lifetime Subscriptions and whether you believe you got your moneys worth for what you spent for the COLLECTORS EDITION.

THE COLLECTORS EDITION BOX IS FOR ONE NOT 3d Holography IT IS PAINTED CLEAR PLASTIC ON 2 SIDES, NOT A HOLOGRAM LIKE YOU SEE ON YOUR CREDIT CARD.

3d Effect is not what was promised in ever game site selling the STO COLLECTORS EDITION.....It says and I quote "Futuristic 3dX holography" Look up definition of holography provided below or use google.

Collectors Edition - $80

Deluxe Packaging: Futuristic 3dX holography set in a high quality brushed aluminum finish. Heavy duty construction with magnetic closures and nested compartments for all components.

The Futuristic 3dX is actually, really, only 2d. I agree the high quality aluminum finish (on carboard) and heavy duty box construction are well made. I like the magnetic closure and the nested compartment is well made and sturdy.

3dX - No info on the web for anything related to "3dX Holography Printing" & I also have never heard of it either.

Holography - is a technique that allows the light scattered from an object to be recorded and later reconstructed so that it appears as if the object is in the same position relative to the recording medium as it was when recorded. The image changes as the position and orientation of the viewing system changes in exactly the same way as if the object were still present, thus making the recorded image (hologram) appear three dimensional. The technique of holography can also be used to optically store, retrieve, and process information. Holography is commonly used to display static 3-D pictures.

I think this was deceptive marketing and Cryptic should acknowledge it as deceptive

Deluxe Manual: High end, hardbound, art book, manual, and disc case in a single, elegant package. “HD Printing” on over 40 glossy pages of exclusive art from the Star Trek Online Universe.

I don't know what Cryptic considers High End HD Printing but the the manual was below average printing and the color was off and blurry(lower resolution images used). Hard bound is a nice touch. My family owns a 4-Color Printhouse so I have over 28 years of knowledge in REAL High End Printing. My families shop has produced posters for Marvel Comics.

The art book pages are printed on a low gloss paper.

Communicator Badge: High quality cast metal design based on the in-game badge model. Fully 3d Sculpted with recessed burst and curved contours.

I like the comm badge. I think it is high quality and will adorn my Trekker Uniform at the convention

Guest Passes: Credit card style buddy passes to invite three of your friends for a ten day trial of Star Trek Online.

I gave to friends to try STO - Wasn't worth anything to me. Has no value. A free promo for Cryptic.

Red Matter Capacitor: A unique item that charges up and delivers extra energy to all of your ship’s equipment for a short time. A device that, when used, gives you a small bump in energy, has a long recharge.

I thought this is cool. I used it with my engineer alt.

Next Generation Uniform: Uniform Options from the Next Generation. The timeless look worn by Picard, Data and Riker.

No distinction with DS9 uniform in drop down. Decent looking uniforms. Well done...no real issue with this.

Deep Space Nine Uniform: Uniform Options from the “Deep Space Nine” Series. Grey shoulders, on a black uniform, just like Sisko, Worf and Dax.

No distinction with TNG uniform in drop down. Decent looking uniforms. Well done...no real issue with this.

Character Slots

Only 3....Are they trying to be stingy like EVE. CO had multiple character slots. I think the game should come with at least 6 slots. 1 slot for each playable race Federation, Klingon)and specialization (Tactical, Science, Engineer) THANK BILL ROPER FOR THIS!!!!

Star Trek Online Game

Scale from 1- 100 I give the game an 82 overall. Getting better all the time....Hopefully
Missing Klingon and Ferengie Races. These races have to be purchased from c-store for and extra $5. THANK BILL ROPER FOR THIS!!!!

Star Trek Online Lifetime Sub - $240

TOS Uniforms
I think it looks a little cheesy. The pants don't look like TOS. No miniskirt, no knee high boots, etc.

Liberated Borg - The borg look, features, and accessories I think are severly lacking.

Game Play for more than 16 months -
IF BILL ROPER DOESN'T DESTROY THIS IP BEFORE THEN.

Champions Online Lifetime Sub - $200
Guaranteed closed beta access
I got in in October 09. I can't complain.

Mirror Universe Uniform

Very unhappy with this...they had 6 months since announcement and this is still buggy. No kirk sleveless shirt. No mini skirt, no knee high boots for guys or girls, full sash only allowed on one bottom half, Half sash on all other pants, etc.

TELL ME WHAT ALL YOU COLLECTORS THINK.....INQUIRING MINDS WANT TO KNOW.

life time + 2 gold editions. and i can easily say YES. as this game will out-last the money i paid.

i guess the question you really need to ask is,

do you think you got your moneys worth AFTER you have finished playing.(i.e never touch the game again)

I'd try to read your post but all the colors give me a headache. Based on your title, though, yes, I feel I've gotten my money's worth out of my Collector's and Deluxe Editions and subscription so far. :)

I spent $45 bucks on the game. Yea Im getting my money's worth. If I had spent hundreds of dollars? Not so much.

And if you are asking Lifetime subscribers if they think they got their money's worth, Im not sure any of them could honestly answer you. You'd be better off asking them again in about......5 years? Ten maybe?

I almost went for the lifetime sub myself. But then I figured I'd just pay monthly. I wasnt sure enough about the game at that point to justify a lifetime sub. Am I sorry I didnt get one? Well, I really like STO but no, Im not sorry I didnt get one. I pleased I went the route I did.

So you are only discussing the game an lifer sub....

Can I assume correctly you do not have the collectors edition.

no i dont, but i probly would of if it was available to me in my country. so you may as well add it as if i did. becasue i would of. if that makes sense.

you see, if i commit to buying somthing then i would of had time to test, review etc etc. so if i didnt like it the only one to blame would be me...

I bought the CE entirely for the TNG uniform. I got my TNG uniform, thus I am pleased with it. I bought the DDE (where the TOS outfits come from, not lifetime as you posted), and I got everything I was supposed to there as well. No complaints. I have not, at this time, gotten my money's worth from the lifetime sub. But just over a year from now, I shall have. I haven't the slightest worry in that regard.

I liked the art book but was disappointed because they had started using the pictures in the book in the game as zone screens right before I got the book. I think the pictures in the book should have been a little more exclusive, but I think they're stunning to look at.

The box cover seems as holographic to me as most other types of holographic covers I have gotten for other things.

Don't sweat the colors things. It's just my 45-year old eyes are tired after being in the game all day. :)

I don't. A cardboard box with a silver decal/label is nowhere near what I'd consider 'high quality'. The description of the package implied a metallic box like you get with many games (Dragon Age being a recent example). What we got was a blatant misrepresentation of what we were led to believe.

The '3D' is also nowhere near what we were led to believe. I'd be inclined to call it 2D with delusions of grandeur.

I have to say I would not use the word stunning to describe the HD printing since 1 there is no such thing and 2 the images/ printing was low quality. Maybe I have an eye for over 28 years in the biz.

The box cover is only 2d....there is no 3d at all. You have printer plastic with a varnish (style) over the lettering. Sorry to disagree. Look at your box again and see if there is any depth (holograph) not counting the combadge see thru.

I like the art book. It isn't the Age of Conan book, but it is pretty. I enjoy looking at it. I wish it could have been bigger, but certainly not enough to say that I didn't get my money's worth because of it.

And I honestly couldn't care less about the "3D holographic" stuff. The box is pretty, what more do you want?

well that's you're opinion, I believe I got what was worth. I love the box, it's sitting on my desk right now, but that is also my opinion. there is no point to try to get people to agree with you're opinion, because not everyone is going to do it, and it makes you look stupid.

And on that note OFF TO WORK.

I agree with most of what you said. You make a very valid point. To be honest I thought the same thing you did...but thought it looked ok.

This was suppose to be a Collectable Item. It will warp and the aluminum will start to lift from the cardboard if to kept in a cool , dry , enviroment.

    And, frankly, I regret it.

I've used the Red Matter Capacitor exactly twice. The cool down is 10 minutes long and most fights it's not necessary . . . so why bother?

The hard bound manual? It doesn't read like a real manual, it reads like something designed for morons in the corporate board room of CBS / Paramount. Language like, "Consoles are very IP driven . . ." says to me that this was the original pitch to CBS / Paramount to get them to go with Cryptic as the developers. It's not really for the Star Trek fan . . . I feel like there's really very little love for the Star Trek IP period. Nothing someone that has watched Star Trek as a little boy for the past 40 years would enjoy.

Lifetime Sub? When the developers say that getting to Admiral level will take about 80 hours of gameplay, it's really disheartening. 80 hours? Good God, that's two weeks. It took me 2 years to get to level 50 in the Original EQ, and I can get 50 in less than two weeks ? That's seriously wrong.

I go back to Middle Earth constantly, thanks to my lifetime sub there, and I tell you, there's a group that loves the world they're working in. There is absolutely no sense of that here, in this game. There are no germs in this version of the Star Trek universe, there's no life, no death, no consequences. If you ship blows up, you ought to be kicked down to the next lowest ship and loose all off you stuff. That would add excitement, and real consequences . . . now there's none.

So right now, both items WERE NOT WORTH IT.

    Not at all...

But with all due respect, anyone IMO who have seen a holograph before could easily tell that the box was not 3d. Look at your credit card at the holograph on it and then look at the box. Sorry...Not 3d.

I respect your opinion but have to strongly disagree with your conclusion.

    Sorry if you are offended.

Look at the holograph on your credit card. Look at the Collectors Box.

    Not 3d or holographic.
