Ok, in the hopes of being able to play this game and others with maxed out video settings, I bought the following upgrades:

  • 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600
  • MSI N260GTX Twin Frozr OC GeForce GTX 260 896MB 448-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card - Retail
  • AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor - Retail
  • ASUS M4A78T-E AM3 AMD 790GX HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard

What do you all think, did I TRIBBLE up?

I have no doubt that it will work fine. My Core2 E2200, 9600 GSO video, and 2 gig ram run sto on max with no problems at all.

I've had FAR less problems from my AMD computers than my Intel ones. Besides, AMD deals out more processing power than intel. Intel processors are mainly geared for business systems while AMD is more for the gamers and such.

Do you think the video card (no SLI) that I listed above will run the game better than the 2 9600 GTs SLI'ed together?

Google the i7, much better than anything AMD puts out right now.

Well, can someone please tell me if the parts I bought will allow me to run the game with max graphics?

    lol wut.

Anyways nice rig. Aside from the blatant "lol look at my puter guys" (its fast enough but let me ask to show off my epeen) thread.

I"m not doing that, I ordered them yesterday, and I wanted to know if I screwed up and wasted money on something that won't let me max out the graphics on games.

Yah ok says the guy who orders a Phenom and is asking about SLI setups?

Look, I'm just asking if I screwed up, I'm not asking for for anything more than that. I'm not trying to show off my rig or trying to get smartass people to comment on everything I say. This thread shouldn't have taken even half of one page but we are on 2 now. If you think I will be able to run the game maxed out with the hardware I just recently purchased, then tell me if you think I could....if I screwed up and the setup won't let me max out the game graphics and run smoothly, tell me. Anything else I don't really care about. Just a yes or no.

I think you should do pretty good with that new rig. You should be able to run STO completely maxed out without any hiccups.

The 965 also has some decent overclocking headroom so you should look up doing some OC'ing on it as well. I myself just got my i5-750 OC'ed and running smooth at 3.8 and am hoping to get it to 4.0 with a little more work.

The DDR3-1600 is a great sweet spot for RAM, not too expensive and 4GB is plenty to run STO and other games coming out soon as well. It will also give you help on getting an overclock that you want.

The 260, while a bit old, is perfectly suited to run STO maxed out. I and others I assume would consider it a mainstream video card now (not slowest, and not the fastest, it's right in the middle).

Good luck with the new rig, I hope she performs well for you!

Ignore the kids on the forums like VGer, he obviously has *****-envy... (sorry I had to take a jab VGer because you are being ridiculous, and it's people like you who need a good slap in the face to face the music that you need to STFU sometimes. Grow up kid!)

As. Long as you have a x3 core you are fine. Even a dual core is plenty to handle this game. Intel or amd it doesn't matter when it comes to gaming. Its all about your GPU. Now if you want to max out graphics you need a Radeon HD 4870 1GB or Geforce GTX 260.

I'm pretty sure he said he ordered a 260 on the OP.
