Arent the mods the guys that get on that have Cryptic tags on their names an such?

Cause a dude without a Cryptic tag that I can see just closed http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?t=116155&page=2
but.... that guy doesnt LOOK like a mod or a dev or what... Im confused. There are undercover mods?

Somehow that seems a little .... shady to me.

Those two people are volunteer moderators, and have been since before closed beta.

There are Devs and there are Moderators. Devs have the tags.

Shouldnt they at least get some kind of cryptic tag instead of being essentially forum narcs?
I never even knew that this existed lol Im not decidedly saying its screwed up, Its nice to see someone finally patrolling these troll holes we call forums. It was just a suprise lol

Incorrect, Cryptic employees have the tags, volunteer moderators do not.

Why do they need tags? If they close the thread it's obvious they have the power to do so whether they have tags or not; and since you know they exist it doesn't matter if they make themselves known. :)

Well I personally think they would assign the volunteers a separate forum account to carry out their duties while protecting their identities some. Assuming of course they weren't allowed to abuse their limited authority like the SWG00X Mods and the Honorary Halflings, who commonly slap closed topics they don't agree with or edit out comments by someboy they don't like.

Why would a volunteer need to protect their identity though?
They aren''t getting paid, and their contributions to the forum /personal profile are pretty much why many volunteers get picked in the first place. If they couldn't handle the freakouts or had thin skin, they probably wouldn't be a mmorpg mod in the first place, right?

Actually, if you look, Moderators have the "moderator" tag under their names but Seadgir does not. It just says Senior Member.

I too was confused by this and had to check it out.

Seadigir, you may want to change your title from Senior Member to Moderator to.....ya know......avoid confusion and such.

Yea it got me too. Had to go check it out.

In the first moment of seeing it I knew something was off. He recently closed another thread I was looking at.

I thought, " Well if Senior Members are closing threads boy do I have some ideas!!! "

Hahaha.....anyways, those small details can really confuse when you take the time to notice them

The names of moderators for a specific sub-forum are listed at the bottom of that page. So if you click the link from the main forum list for this forum header, scroll down and you will see all the names.

My last bit on this before I go into game.
Be careful who you talk to and HOW you talk to them. They may be a mod.

I think kugutsumen was the guy who uncovered EVE online dev accounts and found out some were cheating in the game. The devs were not happy.
