The real reason was that it was unexpected that the server would crash. No major conspiracy there. They've been putting in new servers for 2 weeks now. Demand is still just greater then supply. Few MMOs can say they're that lucky.

That's not fun, at least include aliens or Jimmy Hoffa.
They were too busy rolling around in our money to watch the server status and the hampsters got too hot, so they collapsed.
I personally think this is a better thought to have than seeing techs scrambling everywhere trying to keep the servers up.
2 hours downtime? Unexpected my TRIBBLE.
Let's think up the real reason!
Cryptic is already out of money due to rising health care costs brought on by the massive psychiatric costs of so many players abusing the devs on the board because of new-MMO launch downtime so they have to throttle electricity to the servers as they can't afford to pay the bill any longer which then leads to more abuse and more psychiatric care for the developers in a negative feedback loop.

Neither aliens nor Jimmy Hoffa expected the servers to crash.
Better?

Snape killed Dumbledor.
9/11 was an 'inside' job.
