Its a little early in the game to be thinking about Expansions.
But Cryptic, when you do decide to add content, add it for free within reason ( keeps us paying our monthlies).
When you start developing content you want to charge for, please release a nice boxed expansion pack that goes for $30 or $40 (whatever you prefer). And make it nice and plump with lots of nice stuff. Everyone who is a subscriber will likely buy it, I promise you.
What I DONT want to see is what you did with Champions. Dont make small bits of content and then try to charge us for it. If it was needed in your original core game package then add it for free. Thats what good mmos do. Doing otherwise is just going to tick off the entire community.
Like I said, if you want to charge for extra add on content at some point, please do it in a full fledged expansion. And we'll all be happy. We'll all happily lay down the extra money. We're used to it, and it makes good sense. I dont want to pay $5 bucks here or $10 dollars there for practically nothing. I'd love to hand you an extra $40 bucks for something you took the time to publish.
If you agree, or if you dont, feel free to post your thoughts.

They already said the paid CO Expansion is now free due to the outcry, this thread is pointless.

Well I wasnt aware of that. But the thread is still far from pointless.
Im stating that I dont want any kind of downloadable micro expansions but instead would prefer a larger fuller more expensive expansion pack like most other mmorpgs are in the habit of doing.
Thanks for the info though, and the smart a** remark at the end.

Just out of curiosity, what has ever been said or done as it relates to STO to suggest they won't do EXACTLY this?
Just out of curiosity, what has ever been said or done as it relates to STO to suggest they won't do EXACTLY this?
Nothing at all. But then, out of curiosity, what has ever been said or done as relates to STO that suggests they WOULD do exactly this? Nothing.
They already tried charging to a smaller micro expansion, which didnt take I guess. Voicing that you would like a full expansion is important. If that is indeed what you want.

We've already received a micro-expansion the same size as what CO got for free, so they have done something that supports what you want already.

I'd rather have smaller, cheaper expansions. That way I can pick and choose what I want. Why pay for parts of an expansion you may not care about?
If you ask me mini-expansions is more in the customer's favor than Cryptic's. Business sense is to pile as much meaningless TRIBBLE into a large expansion that people normally wouldn't pay for, but will now because they want the few gems. This allows developers to only focus on a couple cool things then slack off for the remainder.
In this case, though, all released content has to be of a high quality or people won't buy it.
Case and point: the Fed Klingon and Ferengi. I don't care about playing those races. If they packaged them into a larger expansion that includes things I do want, I end up having to pay for those as well. I'm being screwed.
Mini-/Micro-expansions are a superior consumer option.

Chances are they'll try it on, same as CO and see if enough players are stupid enough to cough-up the cash, if not, like CO, they'll likely back down when they fear losing all the precious subs cash.
Unfortunately those who have already paid a lifetime sub now lose their chance to vote with their feet if the devs do something they don't like.
More and more i feel sorry for the lifetime subbers, C-Store really has the potential to TRIBBLE the pooch
I'm sure we'll see full expansions, but microtransactions will also happen. Which is fine. I'd rather pay $2 now for a TNG skant than wait six months for an expansion to offer them.

Depends on what they're offering in these micro expansions and if its really worth the money. Expansions that you see on the shelves usually expand upon the entire game. Hence why they are called expansions.
And while it may have a few things you may or may not care about, you'll likely get your moneys worth, especially if you want to keep playing after hitting end game.
What micro content allows for, is paying $5 or $10 for one mission, or 3 levels of content for instance. Im not talking about costumes or items sold in the C store.
Im talking about game levels and advancement. You start making those into micro trans and I promise you, you will end up paying far more than $30 or $40 bucks for a quality expansion that really adds on to the game.

That may be the plan all along.
