I'm actually enjoying the game.

Since now is a good spot to enjoy my coffee and write this yet pointless positive thread about this game (pointless since it'll get flamed and drowned in to the bit space fast after all).

Anyway I was very cautious when buying this game. I read countless of reviews and watched many videos on Youtube. Steam's 68 critics rating scared me a bit. But eventually the Star Trek universe itch at back of my head took over and I just had to try it out.

From the beginning I have actually enjoyed the game. The mechanics, for being an mmo, are quite different from the mass. Sure controls are the same for movement and looking around, but the fight is less rpg style and more "action" style. Which works well. I would hardly enjoy slow phased combat with space ships if it was like in wow, lotro, warhammer etc...

I have played for few days now and I have found the ship-combat quite intense. I have gotten myself very narrow arched weapons. I usually just keep my enemy at front of me while nuking it as much as possible, when my front shields are starting to fail I push engines to full and throw some gifts to my enemy behind.

So it seems you can build up quite unique/personal ship weaponry systems too. So to reveal, my weak spot is the sides of my ships since I have no beams.

I hope they will tune the ground/personal combat system a bit, since the basics are there and in my opinion it would work after putting some thought to it. It could end up being a great pvp/pve team combat system. Just needs more tactics (forcing to use tactics) and less rush-pew pew.

Graphics are great too, stylish, engine runs well. when there are nature around on the ground it's quite pretty. I have only had issues with Bloom-effect, I had to turn it off since it kept pushing itself through other objects/walls/ground.

I will personally keep my mind open and I have hope that Cryptic will offer us some nice content in the near future and will tune this game to be great.

Criticism to players: I wish players would be more communicative in teams...I have been in several teams through the auto-team function and in only few I have seen players actually talking anything. It's weird.
So those who don't communicate in teams, don't come whine here about how this game doesn't support playing with others or doesn't feel like an mmo...

I have to agree because I have been playing it non stop since the head start. Taking my time and fully enjoying every aspect of the game. Cryptic has done a good job at addressing the critical issues for the most part.

I have enjoyed the game as well, my only real complaint about the game play is how often i have to press the spacebar, it is not immersive for it is merely annoying. The skill system on the other hand and the utter lack of information from crytic on it is driving me toward walking away from this game march 4.

You know you'll get flamed for a positive message. Hmm, methinks you understand fully the MANY problems this game has, and yet you still try and buck the trend.
Congrats I suppose, the blinders must be... specific...

I've got my gripes. But I'm still playing... must be a reason for that.

Can you believe the mods are giving warnings / infractions for that? If not, you will :o

I'm also enjoying the crud outta the game, I just also expect excellence for the money I've dropped so far ($320 so far -- more than on any game I've ever played).

It's not like I'm going anywhere, but when I see a new patch released and I'm all excited that it's supposed to fix X and Y, and then I start playing and X is fixed, but Y isn't, and now G, J, and P aren't working right, I'm disappointed.

This game is gonna rock, I can feel it, but like they said the other day (for CO) -- they need to test the patches before they're released.

If you'd like to hire me for QA, I'm all ears ;)

No offense but I thought you were reviewing Starfleet Command III. Which says a lot about what's missing in this game, IMHO.

I've been playing since OB, and I am enjoying the game a lot. I think a lot of other people are also. Sucks, huh?

I just know there are problems with all games. In each games there are elements that while it pleases others, other's don't like them.

How I see problems this game has? Opportunities. So far I haven't ran in to a single problem that I can't live with and other elements I could give criticism, I just hope the developer will turn them in to their advantage.

I think the simple fact of the matter is that if you are still playing/enjoying the game, as i am, you fall into one of two categories

    1. Easy-going- Of the mindset that there are issues, understanding that the devs know of them, and believing that it is in their best interest to fix them, in order to support the longevity of the game. These individuals aren't brought down by issues and instead wish to play the game to it full potential, as offered now, bugs and all.

    2. Hardcore Trek Fans (like me!)- These are people who realize that no game of this level has come out before, at least as i see it. No other Star Trek game has had constant updates (or will have). Yes, SFCIII was pretty sweet, but i think the opportunity to experience an everdeveloping game is a rare one for the ST genre, which in my opinion hasn't had a truly good game since Star Trek Judgement Rites/25th Anniversary.

Now, here is an intriguing question. I'm pretty certain that the majority of the player base of STO does not post on the forums so i would suspect that the forums are a mediocre place to get a general consensus. What do most people think? Do you think more people than tnot are enjoying it?
