I'm thinking it doesn't make sense to add servers during the first month since they don't really know how many people are going to be renewing their subs. A lot of people are probably going to leave, weather they have gone through all the content, or are just sick of the server crashes. First month usually sees a huge drop off after the free period ends in any mmo. I've only seen 1 company add a lot of servers in the start and that was Blizzard for WoW, because they sold out like everywhere. And everyone wanted to play.
I dont see how it doesnt make sense to try and hold as many subs as possible while you fix the problems!!
I also dont see why they should lie about upgrading hardware and then simply not do it!! It doesnt reflect very well on there diminishing reputation when they claim one week to be upgrading server capacity and then 2 weeks later in patch notes talk about slightly fixing lag issues and watching to see how it goes from there.. Both comments contradict each other as one claims new hardware and the other is nothing more then software patching..
I agree with you on the sense that they will not add hardware because there expecting mass loss in subs, but to not try to hold onto the subs shows nothing more then bad judgement and care less attitude from the company.. surely they could lease the hardware prior to the mass exodus of paying subs?!?!
and on a side note... they claim to have expected only a fraction of the players they recieved right?.. so what happened to the extra revenue they aquired thru box sales??? Shouldnt a portion of that funding gone towards the development of a game that is obviously under developed???
lol.. ATARI are rubbing there hands together with there revenue charts and not seeing the greater picture here.. It has potential to make alot more on a regular basis, but they will be more interested in pumping out there next generic failure for the box/life subs income rather then developing full time on this product.. failure IMO, massive failure in hindsight
Personally, I think they're going to need them. This game is based off of Star Trek for Scotty's sake.
Star Trek is a multicultural Icon. Everyone knows what Star Trek is. You mention the name, and images of cranial ridges, pointed ears, transporters, and the like will run through most folks heads. The various series are broadcast in syndication all over the planet, so the idea that they wont have the players for new servers in the cluster seems like bad logic, in my opinion.
