So your QQ threads are entirely appropriate.
And dont give me the "this isnt gameplay related" cause 90% of the threads here arent lol
But yeah, this is the ONLY MMO that EVER has downtime, so it MUST be that we are all paying for open beta. Especially during the first month. Cause every other MMO out there was as patched and ready at launch as it is now.
off topic...
500 Internal Server Error ffs... they cant even keep the forums up with all the rabid ****ed off ppl descending on the forums to bash the game lol

I normalley don't kurrect spelin errors but yours is in your sig.
Not the downtime that bothers me... its the blatant lies regarding upgrading there capacity that pevs me!!
Ohh right, everyone seems to forget that Cryptic told us it was being implemented last weekend...
Defend them all you like regarding them being in infancy, but if there PR is reflective of the companies attitude, they are going to fail big time as compared to what the potential could have been...

Dude they were saying that after the first few days of OB lol Ive given up listening to their claims. I just play the game Im having fun with when I can. I already paid a lifetime sub, and have zero recourse other than quitting (and that would be stupid imo. Paying nerly $300 for a game I actually like playing wen its working then walking away from it a week later - no matter how good or bad it might be) as refunds arent being offered. I am left to merely hope that the game lasts for the entire 2 years I payed for. Otherwise, then ill be upset.

They are only going to add so much capacity. Cryptic knows that over time the number of concurrent users will drop. It happens to everyone - WoW may be the only exception, but even that MMO sees unusually high traffic when a new add-on is released.
So if the steady state = X concurrent users, and due to the "newness" STO gets 2X concurrent users during peak times, there is no way they will spend the money to accomdate that. Inside of a month it will be back to the X concurrent users and they will have wasted bandwidth/computing power.
So expect outages at peak period for the nextg several weeks until the first 30 days are up and a portion of people don't re-up. Happens with every MMO - don't see why STO is going to be any different.

THIS ^^ is why what were going to be bajor games have massive server merges eventually. They have huge amounts of hardware just not being used, that costs money to keep.
lol you haven't been at the launch of WoW in the USA... the first five days I couldn't even log on, the servers crashed every 3 minutes, then for other 20 days or so we had several unexpected downtimes and there was a few large patchtimes, then everything slowly started to run more smoothly... then BAM 12 hours downtime patch then again 2-3 times of downtimes unexpected ones, and then finally settled.. relax.

You realise that due to there MAJOR server issues they will loose a massive amount of paying subs right?!?
and like i said.. WHY LIE ABOUT IT IF YOU NEVER INTENDED ON DOING IT.. simple logic really, fix the problem with leased hardware, return said leased hardware after subs drop and capacity is no longer required.. They did get a massive boost in funds due to unexpected popularity.. so to say its a waste of money is just ridiculous

Problem is cash flow. Except for lifetime subscriptions, they probably havent' seen cent one of any sales yet. Takes time for that cash to flow back in. By the time it does flow back in, there will be fewer users.
Of course they could use a line of credit to rent those servers, but I am sure that is what they did for the current batch they bought/are leasing. That assumes in this economy they can get any lending institution to lend them money at reasonable rates, which given Atari's balance sheet the last couple of years would be a real big stretch.
Lastly, trying to lease servers for only 30 or 60 days is very expensive - even most hosting companies want at least a 12 month commitment.
Now this isn't to say that haven't added *some* servers and bandwidth - I am sure they have. But not enough per my earlier argument. So essentially they have told us the truth...from a certain point-of-view.
