I have been waiting for a year to get STO, but when i look at it now i think what the hell was i waiting for. I was waiting for a good game with backstabbing idiots at the helm, the monthly prices are too high and I can't accept it. Cryptic is getting rich now but in 6 months i bet everyone will start complaining, they BETTER change the prices before the mob comes or things will get UGLY for them. I have to return it because of there stupid mistake, better change the prices or just pack up and go home. PLEASE RESPOND IF YOU FEEL THE SAME.

Errr...their monthly fee is the same as just about every other MMO out there. They all charge around 15 bucks a month.

As far as backstabbing goes....they made the game that they did; that the game isn't what you specifically wanted isn't their fault. After all, YOU didn't hire them to make the game; you simply bought the finished product. If it wasn't what you wanted the fault is yours for not doing due dilligence. Caveat Emptor applies.

In 6 months people will start complaining? <ROTFLOL> Dude, they've been complaining since closed beta. They'll be complaining in 10 years if the game is still around. If there is ONE activity that humanity is united in it is complaining. Should be an olympic sport. Course, if it was then gamers would win the gold <G>.

The monthly fees are average for the MMO industry.

You honestly can't expect them to develop the Klingon faction for free?

Who do you think you are???

Quit being greedy! And while you are at it, give them your bank routing and checking numbers, also any inheritances you may have.

How has the monthly fee changed? We all knew what it was before we bought STO, it is the standard mmo monthly price. Did you forget to tell mommy and daddy about the monthly fee and now they are making you return it?

You do know all GOOD MMO's use $15 (USD) a month right? If you can't afford it, save up on money or don't play, simple as that.

So you want to play free or something?

Another thing, if you've been waiting for a year, then why didn't you save up on money for monthly fees?

    Yea this ^^ .

Apparently, it must be juniors first mmo. All of the major ones cost $15 a month. Its pretty standard.

And no, its probably not ever going to change. Not until the server shuts down in hopefully many years.

Yea, these prices are standard. It's just part of the MMO industry. You're paying for their constant work on the game and added content to come. It's not going to change. If anything future MMO prices will go up.

    Let me get this straight.....

    1. Spend a few, what, tens of millions? On a massive MMO.
    2. Charge a small amount every month..
    3. Proift on day 1?

I'm afraid the sums just don't add up. If you don't want to pay, don't let the door hit you on the backside on the way out.

I like how everybody jumped on the OP for pointing out that an inferior product should cost less.
Also there are a number of MMO's that are less than the 15$ standard.

I like the game, theres enough here to keep me for my free 30 days.

But I'm with the OP, this is not yet worth 15$ a month.
If everything that was in the game right now today was 100% complete and worked 100% properly and they had no capacity problems it would be worth it.
Until then (and they might get there before the thirty day mark, cross your fingers.) I'm leaving my wallet in my pocket.

return what? the game you bought? i'm not sure where you got that game from but copy right laws don't allow return of copy right media such as games, movies, music unless you are exchanging it out for the exact same title. this is done to keep you from hacking the media and making a profit. so once again i'm not sure where you going to return it but whatever retailer takes that game back is breaking the law.

so far as i see it .. unless you got a video of it "screenshot" lol you're stuck with it bud.

A company making money off their product!!!! Can you imagine? Them Bast*&$s!!!!!!

I'm no fan of Cryptic's, and I have a lot of problems with this game .... but Cryptic making money is not one of them, and you knew what all the prices were before you bought the game ... if you thought it was too much you should have passed.

I'd like to have a Ferrari myself, and I could probably afford it at this point in my life .... but I think they are over-priced, so I don't buy one.

Even if the fee is average for an MMO, an average MMO (even if new or in a launching phase) delivers much more then STO currently does.

There are others who said it as well: this plays like a single player game (and I dont feel like I need to go into details about that. PM me if you want compare) which does not deserve a recurring fee.

So I understand where the OP is coming from. And I can only agree with the OP.

    --
On a side note... it can be cheaper... Take for example SOEs approach, even tho I'm very sceptical of them: 1 pass costs less then $30 - allows to play all MMOs (EQ, EQII, Vanguard, PoTBS, SWG, MxO) at no extra cost. That's about $5 per MMO per month. Not to mention the 'Card games' SOE created as well. Take your pick.

If Cryptic also holds other MMO's they might take a look at SOE's revenue model.

So, let me get this straight. All you're complaining about is the price?

It's the same monthly rate as nearly every other MMO on the market. If you think you can't afford it, maybe you should consider how much you spend a month on console games, video rentals and movies. Playing an MMO for entertainment can save you more than you might think.

You shouldn't be "waiting for all the free monthers to go away". As soon as they are all gone this game will be a ghosttown. When the game has small numbers of people playing it, there is no financial incentive to make it better.

The hell are you even talking about? $14/month USD is generic MMO pricing.

And.. increase everyones subscription price over time, as the game improves?
    That would never work.
Even if some people accepted it would break the game card concept that assumes a constant subscription fee.

The subscription price is the same from cradle to grave. I think that's been the case for every MMO. In fact the industry is beginning to suffer from it due to inflation, which is why they're looking at things like the C-Store to compensate, rather than increase subscription prices.

Purchase a copy of Life 2.0 at your local library. It may even come with an expansion pack of Librarian 1.0, which allows you to open up the special adventure Date 1.0, and if you win the level in that adventure you can play the easter egg level Sex 2.0. If you are expert enough at Life 2.0, then you may get to repeat Sex 2.0 without having to pay a fee. Experts at Life 2.0 also get a chance to play Education 1.0, Culture 1.0, Nature 1.0, and Civilization. On the side, remember that the Sex 2.0 level has special prizes of Baby 1.0 and VD 3.5, but these can be avoided if you desire by having spent a little time playing Education 1.0.

There will be a huge number of people playing, and more to come as things smooth out even more and even more after the 45 day patch. This is the way MMOs grow. What WILL change is that the /nerdrage and /cutself;/emoquit people will have to pay to continue their rants, and then we can all laugh and poke fun at them, because you really must be some kind of sad individual to pay to whine and rant and badmouth an online game that you have a choice of not paying for.

That's the beauty of the instancing architecture they're using. Whether there's a million people playing it or 10,000, instance sizes will be about the same- there will just be fewer instances. The only noticeable thing will be a quieter zone chat.

And there will always be incentive to continue development if there's profit to be made. The smaller the population, the fewer resources they need, the lower their bottom line is, the more profit they make.

    There are 1,000,000 box sales.

Cryptic needs 50,000 online to break even.

I think it is a safe bet that "Ghost Town" will not happen soon. At its worst, there are only 50 posters here spam posting hate the game posts. They could each represent a thousand people, and take another thousand with them, and still not dent the game.

I don't think the monthly is bad at all, I thought it would be closer to $20.00 instead of $15.00.
