I don't get it? I've been playing this sim for a week now and all I have is 2100 credits? I read where other people have thousands already? huh? Im at level 6 and Im puting all my extra stuff I collect in my replicator for credits. I went to the exchange and posted an item and didn't get zippo. So how do you get lots of credits?

Sell your old loot as you progress. I have almost half a million credits just from doing that. Your inventory and bank slots should be filling up quickly, which will force you to empty them out. I never sell on the exchange, just a hassle.

1) it's not a sim.
2) stop selling to your replicator except for low value ground items (10 EC value). even space abtteries sell to station vendors for 100 EC each and can bring in decent profit.
3) the exchange is flooded especially with common items. i've seen stuff on there for less than what they vendor for.
Don't buy anything in exchange, use it for selling only. Get all your gear from missions and most importantly, star cluster exploration badges! If you do this, you will be rolling in credits.
you dont need credits, so just keep leveling. Loot like ship shields are worth a bank, so use em and sell em. Upgrade with explorations badges (gets better gear anyways than you do with credits for ship parts)
I had the same problem when i started. We all did.
1 - Do you missions, several enemies will drop items that you can sell on the exchange. Also I noticed that the mission in the beginning give you pretty much everything you need fro your rank.
2 - Buying on the exchange - Since everybody sells items 10X their value be patient and refresh often to find a deal.
I was down to like 3k when i was LT Commander. Now im commander and have almost 200k. Be realistic when selling and you will make the sale. Just be patient and you will have more that enough money.
You dont get loads of credits by doing episodes/quests, it's something extra but not the way to make easy credits.
Just get to know the market/exchange , buy some stuff cheap and sell it for some more thats the fastest way to make credits. When iam at the exchange I just take a few minutes to do that and have over 5 million credits now. It cost only a few minutes a day to make easy credits, I guess if you want you can stand there for some hours and make millions but thats up to you. I just want to play the game and when iam at a station I just take some minutes to buy/sell some stuff and continue leveling.

You however, do need credits to do this in the first place....
I tried selling my expensive disrupter phasers on the exchange for $2,000 and all it did was post it? huh? I got no money and no credits. I could have dumped the phasers in my replicator and got a grand at least. Talk about ****ed. I gave away $ 2,000 of disrupter beams and got zippo. Maybe I don't know how to use the exchange? Everything on STO is a guesiing game to learn. No tutorials at all.

You too can become rich in 3 quick and Easy Steps.
Step 1: Go to Orion.
Step 2: "Recruit" a bunch or Orion Princesses to your crew
Step 3: Go back to Starbase 1 in the Sol system and "introduce" your new crew to all of the players on shore leave.
The exchange for selling stuff is TRIBBLE ! I posted phaser disrupters on the exchange for $2000 and got NOTHING in credits. I could have put them in my replicator and gotten half the value in credits.

I think you have missed the entire point of the Exchange. It's like ebay for the game. You post something at a price that you set, and maybe someone will buy it. If it doesn't sell, you priced it to high.

Deja vu? coulda sworn i just read this.
Anyways, you do realize the exchange is you putting the item up for auction that OTHER PLAYERS buy, if no one buys it you get it back.
Also, replicator is for when you are away from base. You get more money selling it to an NPC.
BS, the phaser disrupters were valued at $2400 and I posted them for $2000. So I DID lower the value and it made no diff. THE EXCHANGE IS A JOKE!
Most of my profit comes from Exchange. Only because you are having bad luck doesn't mean exchange is a joke. if exchange was joke i wouldn't have made 200K. And i can make more if only i play few more hours everyday.
Mick, losing $2000 and geting back nothing is A LOT when I could have gotten a 1,000 credits just placing the disrupters in my replicator. Wake up dude!

Like i said you are just having a bad luck. i am quite awake since i make all my money from Exchange. Even for white items i never use replicator. Yes its pain to haul your TRIBBLE back to station every time but its well worth the effort. Just have to be patient and smart. Credits are very easy to make in STO.

What? You didn't lose anything. Take the item off of the exchange and sell it to the replicator. Nobody wants what your selling.

Dear god you are playing stupid arent you...
You put up your item in the exchange at a price you set.
Other players will then come and buy items that they want from the exchange.
Some things have a price listed on the card which is WAY above what other players want to pay for it, other items have a listed price WAAY WAAAY below what people are willing to pay.
so - best advice - go to the exchange and go to BUY - type in the full name of the item you want to sell, see the price that other people (your competition - this is an MMO after all) are selling that item for.
IF you want to sell it quickly - price it lower than anyone else is selling for - if you want to try your luck - price it slightly higher than the bottom people.
If however people are selling the item for under HALF what the item value is - quick - buy them all and either post them higher, or take them all to a vendor and get what you payed for them back, and a little bit extra (loved doing this today - I was standing in memory alpha exchange which is about 2 paces away from a vendor - found 15 of the same item priced at 100 credits lower than their resale to a vendor value - bought all 15, walked 2 paces to the vendor and made 1500 credits in about 5 seconds.

This all takes some thought and time.
