Waaaay too hard.. I spent 3 hours and still havnt gott it down..took a break then went back in and have still been hackin at it. .It is absolutely ridiculous. Nerf that TRIBBLE
I'm pretty happy with it. Not so much the battle, but more the nerd rage going on in zone chat. Lots of caps lock, lots of wowtards (yeah I know they're a little slower than the average bear but they make me roffle still). Going to take some screenies tomorrow nite hehe.
No, it's not, you must be the newb who takes his escort straight at it, gets blown up then QQs when it goes back up from 70 to a 100% because you flew straight in instead of kiting fragments and burning it down.
My first time flying along in that sector, just going to visit Memory Alpha in my stock Centaur I was hailed by the science ship saying anyone and everyone was needed, thought "Oh cool!" and got one-hit-killed a few times before deciding there was absolutely nothing I could do aside from take out up to two crystal fragments per spawn. Wonder if Starfleet would ask a passing freighter full of slingshots to help too
I still haven't done this one. It seems likely that people are going to get ****ed off at me when I do it for the first time, because everyone likes to rage about it here, but you guys can suck it.

Follow these 2 tips and you'll be fine. Don't fly at it and don't get hit by shards/waste time killing them, just stay away. And and do tons of pew pew pew to the entity and you'll win eventually.
oh have someone with ramming speed fly under it and activate it when going full speed and ram into it when its between 40 and 30% and it'll go down before the most annoying part of that encounter.
I was able to complete this a few days ago in my science ship. Spend the entire time shooting shards and healing the ships close to me. finished second to last with 300 points. the top spot had 580,000 points.
I strongly dislike this fight. It obviously needed changing but they turned it into something completely stupid.
I went in there with my sovereign because with my superior ship and captain skills, i can maintain full firepower while orbiting the entity and blowing it away and outrunning all the shards with ease without additional engine power adjusted to them.
First, the thing heals entirely too much. Even if you try to explain to people they need to avoid getting hit by the shards, you know how people are in a pug, they just dont listen. And it's not like you can make a pre-made group and go in there because even when you do it still randomly assigns random idiots to your group. It only takes ONE moron in the entire instance to TRIBBLE it up.
I orbited this boss shooting it for about 45 minutes straight before it finally died, that is just an unreasonable amount of time for a single encounter without anything more engaging than just circling the thing going on.
Another complaint I have is due to the time it took to kill it, and the fact it never stops producing shards, I had apparently hit the maximum number of dynamic objects that the game is even capable of rendering on the screen at a time. There were literally hundreds of them, so many that the crystalline entity as well as all other starships were invisible and the only thing rendering was the mass of shards following me.
I had to spend close to 5 minutes just constantly blowing up shards just to reduce the number of objects in the zone to even SEE the crystalline entity again so I could keep attacking it. It's absurd.
On the bright side, I did score around 3 million by the time it was over, well above everyone else, and got some crappy blue for it. Even took a screenshot because i'm never doing it again. lol
Another fail to this fight is just it's general design. I mean it screws over escorts entirely because they can't bring their cannons to bear on the entity except in very short burts because of the speed they have to maintain while fleeing from the little shards. They spend at best 30% of the time firing their cannons, the rest is just avoiding those shards while making exaggerated figure eights. Theres no point for escorts, no real benefit for science or buffing ships since any damage from crystals destroys you almost instantly anyway. Only healable damage is to the ship tanking it, and that was me, and I healed through it with just my base shield regen.
So anyway, this fight definitely needs more tweaking. I get the impression they just changed it the way they did as a bandaid quick-fix to avoid the constant farming of it on live.
For all of those claiming that people are just too stupid to figure it out, it has nothing to do with them, it is on the game designer to produce a mission that is fun, challenging, and interesting.
There can be no doubt about it this mission is horribly designed along with almost all group missions. It is not a new or intriguing mission style just because you try to shoe horn everyone into a certain style of play. ie- kite and run. In fact every other MMO I have ever played in discourages that mentality because it is too often used as an exploit to fight things way above your level.
Here's what I took from the last 1.5 hours of fighting this idiotic Entity.
EVERYONE STOP SHOOTING THE SHARDS !!!!! YOU NOOOOOB1111!!!!
SHUT UP, YOU HAVE TO KILL THE SHARDS OR THEY KILL YOU
......
and on and on.
This is a freaking game people. Designers get your TRIBBLE together and stop trying to be smart with missions, you are substituting real challenge for a social experiment. The question should not be can I get every player to play one style of play and have them yell at each other until they do.
A good MMO is founded on a diversity of play styles. And heaving every unique player be able to bring something unique to the table. Frankly I am getting sick of the Noob talk because the designers are too lazy to make a real challenge. Make no mistake the problem is not the players. People are here to have fun. That is all that anyone pays for. It is not fun to have to resort to some anachronistic tactic that no one can agree on.
I will not be a paying customer for very much longer if I run in to too many more game ruining design flaws. like this. Quite frankly I just wanted the experience to end.
I believe if you had a line of escorts targeting the entity and one or two cruisers just sitting back behind them blowing up shards as they come, you could keep them under control without even having to move.
It's only when you join the battle mid-progress that theres hundreds of them flying around in massive swarms of death.
I'd like to hit it up in an organized fashion at some point and try that method.
Maybe also have a cruiser tanking, when the escorts pull too much threat they can jam sensors. I'm curious if it aggro wipes completely or if they have full aggro restored after it's over.
Ahh so much to test.
But such an organized group I believe could easily defeat the entity in under a minute. It actually dies pretty quick when it's not being chain healed.
it is the size of a large moon should it be easy to kill? you kill the big shards and it heal the beast so dont kill them. you can get away with this also, when alot of guys are pulling the big shards you see a pattern and the back side of the thing is almost shard free. get withing 10k face it shut down power and just blast it till the shards get close you get from 1 to 3 min then bolt out of the way.
seen it go down in 5 min if everyone just shot the thing and left the shards alone.it was also nice to get the better reward from using the tatic i talked about. and no i was in my newbie ship not a escort
It is hard, but not impossible. You just need a team with good players. But hey, it's a boss monster, right?
I think bosses should be this hard. It gives so much satisfaction when you finally kill that thing.
It was nerfed because it was being farmed. They probably need to rethink how to balance it so that it is hard but not like it is now. It was too easy previously.

BTW, I got 2nd place in T2 escort. Constant fire on the thing. Jab and move.
