Server Down Yet Again. A new take...

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
Long post I know.. but hey what else am I going to do while the servers are down? I have at least 20 mins till I can 'manually release my pleasure valve' again. So hey..

Ok look. First of all there are a couple hundred "the damn server is down this sucks!" messages with even more replies like "stop shining the WoW release was worse" etc etc

Here are my issues with the server being down.

1. We pay for a product that is supposed to be tested and complete. Yes there will always be the small bug here and there but if you bought that new Brittany Spears CD and found that you could only listen to it a few times a day and it would just randomly stop playing constantly you can bet you would be dragging your hello kitty purse back to the store for a refund.
it is not about THIS game having issues. When is the gaming dev community going to wake up and realize that we demand the same QA and reliability as other products on the market.
Games are supposedly starting to compete with movies now for over all consumer enjoyment.. what if you went to see Avatar opening weekend and it stopped halfway thru and you got a message saying "oh sorry its normal, come back tomorrow to finish your movie?" Again, i think you would drop your joojoobees and over priced soda to the ground and demand money back,

I THOUGHT Cryptic was better then this. And the level of incompleteness of the products being made available to the public from the game industry is frustrating beyond belief.

2. The world is no longer a first shift empire. Meaning these days there are just as many people who work second and third shift jobs as there are day timers.. ok well its close.. maybe you have a FEW more.. but the trend to constantly pull down the servers in the night and mornings is unfair and ..and..racist! ok not racist but..um..Shiftist! yeah! Come on, I pay my dues like everyone else. I am out there getting your garbage and picking up your disgusting half full cans of jolt cola to be recycled and I expect to be able to play my game when I want like everyone else. Mix up the server down times.Do it at 5pm one day and you will see MILLIONS of of people whine but us late night people are supposed to take it with a smile. Im not saying do it during the day constantly, but how about a downtime rotation?

3. I joined the site here over a long time ago. I waited patiently for the game. I watched them give out beta keys left and right. I watched the "open" beta be nothing more then a market campaign to get other web sites to promote the game. And I still never got one. So no I was not i beta, but I read the accounts of those in there. And guess what? The same comments are showing up while its live.
Please.. use a beta for what it is intended for.. to find these stupid bugs and FIX THEM BEFORE LAUNCH. Devs please stop using betas etc as a way to promote your game and use them to keep TRIBBLE like server downtime to a minimum. Use your brains and not your wallets.. or something...yeah its a stupid analogy but you get the gist.

We are the customers who are going to make or break your game. And its high time we stopped taking the spoonloads of sweet tasting fecal matter they force feed us and demand some sustenance. I for one want to pay my $60 and have a game / product that I know is going to work. I want some quality control and I want some one over there to think that we are more then just dollar signs sitting at the keyboards. We love these games and we love the subject matter and without us you might have my job picking up diapers in the street after some soccer mom packs the damn bag too much and they explode upon lift off from the ground. Treat us with respect and knock this horse s%&t off.

We waited years. Another month or two to make a better product would not be asking much of us. You are going to wrack up that much downtime soon anyways.

Wow, never played an MMO before or something? Maintenance down time and patches are pretty much the norm, especially for an MMO this close to it's launch date.

edit: We are taking advantage of the unscheduled downtime to push this new update now instead of the previously scheduled 3am update.

But then again, I happen to read the forum posts.
