Q mission

So, I've still got 15 levels to go before I can do this mission. What I want to know is, did Cryptic manage to get him voiced by John de Lancie? A lot of us had hoped that the they would get him to voice Q since cryptic mentioned in that interview that they would like to get more Star Trek actors to do voice work. John couldn't be that expensive. Not like Patrick Stewart or something.

I would like to know which mission you are talking about. I just hit Admiral and I haven't done any Q missions...

It's one of the newly released Borg missions. Admiral 5.

I think it's a different Q from the one in the shows. His son or something. They were all called Q weren't they?

It could be him. Was really hoping we'd get John de Lancie as Q though. Would really help the game.

yes and they pretty much live forever too, so its only not the other Q because the other Q wants it that way

Sorry to disappoint you but it's not the Q you want. It's his son from the voyager episode. Antie Kathy and all that.

Also, there is no voice acting. It's only one mission, not a raid or anything special.

Too bad really. Would have been the perfect chance to implement a voice actor. John de Lancie had one of the most recognizable voices in Star Trek and the game could have really benefited from having him as Q.

There is no voice over for Q

    Why ?

For those that dont want spoilers look away now:

Its not THAT Q. Its his stupid Q2 son.

I just completed this mission and I dont want to spoil it however I will state that it was EXTREMELY lacking.
Although, naturally Cryptic have included an open door for future returns so its possible the REAL Q might show up with voice and all.

That said, this mission was really clumsy. Its not entirely Cryptics fault, there is just no way you can capture the kind of character of a Q and power within this game engine. I can acknowledge that Cryptic TRIED to do justice to this mission and capture the Q aura.

    The problem is:

    A) They tried to make a Q out of a one-shot-wonder character from Voyager. There is no character like the real Q had which evolved over the much better TNG.
On the one hand that means they have free reign to take THIS Q in any direction they want without stepping on canon or annoying fans for 'ruining' their Q.

Unfortunatly, this Q is an insufferable ***** in his introduction. Cyptic seem to have taken the 'mischievious imp' menality when it comes to this Q.

If Cryptic are intelligent, they will take this Q much the same way the original did by developing him beyond just being a selfish ***** that inflicts his boredom on lesser races for his on amusement. Instead, actually helping and / or influencing the player like Picard was influenced would be extremely good.

    B) They tried to make a Q out of a game that is focused mainly on SPACE combat and progressed via TEXT chat. There is no voice over, there is no dramatic acting and verbal flair to give the appropriate feel to whats going on.

The space problem aspect really becomes obvious when you see how Cryptic tried to get Q visually infront of the player. Realistically, this would have been a PRIME time for player bridges to come into effect by having Q appear on it.

However, given how that would force a complete reloading of a new instance and the difficulty in setting up an appearance for EVERY bridge combination out there, it becomes obvious how unreasonable an endeavour is going to be at this point in the game's development.

    C) Cryptic tried way too hard to make this seem 'epic' when it is infact, just another instance affair like any other mission with text boxes. I think this should be a lesson for Cryptic to just leave Q out of this game except for BIG events that have the kind of in-depth flair you would expect when an Omni-potent being decides to mess with you.

As it is, I could have easily just sauntered through this mission pressing F through the dialogue and not really cared about Q's appearance and the mission itself is just generic with a bit more text boxes that contain sterotype text you would expect. Good for the Role Play crowd naturally, but ideally you want Q's appearance to capture the same kind of theme it did when they appeared in the series and feel like its a major event.

For that reason, I would propose making these appearances rare and sporadic with long mission arcs and interacitve content beyond simply spawning more enemies while Q gives me abuse. If anything these are the kind of encounters where diplomacy, diverging story arcs caused by player choices and REAL consequences should happen.

Was a bit disappointed to see it was Q's Son expecially since Gozer in an interview said it was THE Q. I do think getting some of these actors in would spice things up a bit. Especially De Lancie because the Q character can be used to make so many fun missions for the future.

Just having Nimoy say a few lines in the Guardian chain with the Enterprise made it so much more fun.

After ending this mission, I really wished to lay him over my knee and spank him until the end of time ... Yeah its the son of the original Q and he is also reffering to aunt Kathy but i really hope there will be further episodes, featuring the voices of some of the actors! I mean its nice to have Spock, but also having Q and there are a lot of time travel missions so why not having Cisco, Janeway, Tuvok etc. also inside them? Would give the game an awesome bunus.

PS: inside the Q mission, could it be that there is only the 2nd scripted event in the whole game? SPOILER="you go through the corridor, the hull breaches and sucks the borg into space"? only seen that kind of script during tutorial.

What about the various times you disable ships or tag incapacitated enemies for beam out or when the gas causes you to attack your own crew?

I seem to be running into something scripted once every few levels or so.
