Space difficulty seems normal to me

Ok first off, I generally play solo and yes i agree ground difficulty is easy, has to be since I've never come close to dying all the way up to lvl 9 commander. As far a space tho I don't get how people are saying its super easy. So easy in fact that some say they can afk and their auto attack kills mobs for them. I don't know what lvl enemies they're fighting but when i,m soloing missions my level they aren't what i'd call easy. I'm tact and my heavy cruiser load out is as follows: All items are green or blue lvl mk vi

1/ front weapons - 2 dual plasma banks and 1 quantum torp launcher
2/ rear weapons - 2 plasma arrays and 1 quantum torp launcher
3/ shields - covariant cap
4/ consoles - plasma infuser, eps, rcs accelerator, hull armor, tractor beam enhancer for science (forget the name)
5/ bo skills - emergency power to shields 1, emergency power to shields 2, reverse shield polarity 2, science team , engineering team and tactical team

I've generally come up against 3 types of enemies as commander, birds of prey, escorts and battleships. The birds of prey are relatively easy but the escorts are a pain and the battleships a bigger pain. For the last 2 I'm using all my bo skills to keep my shields up, especially against battleships but I always prevail with about 10 - 40% hull damage.
So anyways i'm having a hard time agreeing with people saying space is a cakewalk unless i,m doing something very wrong. For me to take 5 mins to kill one equal level battleship doesnt seem like easy mode.
All i can say is i,m glad we don't have to grind on hundreds per level like you do in other mmo's.

As it is now I prefer ground combat more, not because its easy, but because it isn't near the button mashing marathon space is. The senseless shield quadrant spamming and auto attack for only 2 weapons is TRIBBLE beyond belief not to mention painful and not fun period. Sure hope cryptic comes to their senses.

What power level do you enter combat with? Do you change between them? Do you adjust your speed to match theirs to pound on one side of their shields? Do you turn your ship so you can focus as many forward and aft weapons on your target as possible?

I also noticed you're using plasma and quantum weapons and you're not using any tac skills that boost your weapons. What sort of skills does your captain have? Popular opinion says any skill points spent on plasma weaponry is a waste.

I don't think I'm quite your rank but so far I find this game insanely easy. To each their own though.

Personally I've come to think that many that think this game is too easy think so because they are grouped most of the time. I've found space combat to be just the right amount of difficulty while playing solo....which is all the time. Unless of course I am forced into a group...in which case the game does become A LOT easier.

I'm not sure what you're doing wrong. I just hit admiral 45 and finished the new borg missions. I've died a total of 3 times lvling. Mostly due to bugs (wont mention because it would spoil some stories).

But it comes down to play style I guess. I lvled with tactical until captain and with science to admiral. Until captain things died before they could get through my shields. When I got my science ship... well mostly things go like this.

If 1 enemy, use viral matrix... it is stunned until I kill it
If >1 enemy, use sramble and they shoot at eachother until I kill them

So for me the game is too easy. I'm actually lvling my second character in a runabout just to have more of a challenge.

I'm set at around 58/105/30/30 which iv'e stuck to since the start otherwise i find my shields drop too fast. I see your point, that i could start with full power to weapons then switch once i get pounded, will give it a try. As for matching speed etc I'm in a heavy cruiser so i,m not running anyone down. I generally cut engines to 25% during a fight because i find i turn better and keep the enemy in front of me easier, then i use my tractor beam to keep him there longer. All my front weapons are 90degree arc so i'm not built for broadsiding. My rear plasmas are 250degree in case anything gets beside or behind me.

Are you saying you made a science officer and went up to admiral or just switched to a science vessel?

I die rarely (and only when I do something stupid/tired). I run the following.

    Weapons: 85
    Shields: 50
    Engine: 25
    Aux: 40

I'm Science Officer in a Cruiser. I have no idea what you are doing wrong, but the game is mind numbingly easy. In Open Beta, prior to the enemy nerf patch, I ran with full defensive, because I just couldn't survive long enough to kill anything otherwise. After the nerf patch, I moved to Balanced, then to Attack Modes. I nudged down my Weapon power, but kept Shields baseline, and I never have problems with enemies, except if there are just a LOT of them?

The other night, I was doing an old paladin tactic and rounding up two mobs in my Cheyenne class at the same time and just wearing them down to see if I could. Didn't die. Never even was in any serious trouble.

Hmmm, guess i,ll have to give more more weapons power another try. On a side note I've wondered what separates the 3 ship types we can have. I've stuck to cruisers for their toughness but got to wondering that the shields i,m using could just as easily go into an escort which means it would be just as tough as my cruiser wouldn't it? Is the only main difference between the two that the hull is stronger on a cruiser? I know the crew compliment is alot higher as well but what does that actually affect? Might be worth trying out an escort with cannons. While i,m at it i should try a science vessel as well lol

I am a tactical officer. The type you are makes little difference on the type of ship you fly. It's more related to ground abilities.

Anyways I'll share with you how I see ships.

Tactical = Offensive. They are squishy and rely on running around enemies and high firepower to survive.
Cruiser = Mid range between offensive and defensive. They can go decent damage and have decent survivability.
Science = Defensive. They (in my opinion) have the lowest firepower, but they have double the shields of the other two classes, and many stuns/confuse/roots to help them not take any damage.

As far as cruisers go if you want a tip for dps it will be to go wither 3 phasers in the back and try to keep things to the side so you hit with all guns, or get 3x turrets (in back again) and you wont have to worry too much about angle. Keep your guns at 100 and shields at 50. If you kill things faster they wont do damage to you and you wont have to keep shields up as long.
