Nice of you to send out a message about the impending maintenance.

I'm trying to get my friend into MMO's and he's a trek nerd, ontop of the major learning curve in this game, frequent disconnects and now this?

I'm glad I never purchased your previous MMO's.

What is it with you fanboy idiots? He's trying to get his Star Trek friend to play, a new PAYING customer, and Cryptic can't even keep the server up. How is that for salesmanship?

Telling him to get over it is really stupid. They've not been through what a number of us have, and seriously, as paying customers, why should they be treated like TRIBBLE and insulted by the likes of you?

If this game is ever gonna stay open, then we need to be understanding and acknowledge that to the new person this is a very steep learning curve. And just saying "It's gonna get better," without any evidence to back it up, is just gonna drive that person away.

Same here, but they have a fairly extensive one on their website which helps tremendously in playing the game. Also the tutorial at the beginning (though long) is very well done in going through the ins and outs of all the screens of the game and different skills.

I have to echo the man's statement, who said "don't play much MMOs?"

It's very common, especially for a recently-released MMO, to experience downtimes from time to time. Some of them are more frequent than others.

    STO's manual is Horrible

I think my 10year old nephew would have done better!

But I like the game, and thank god for the STO Community and their posts, it’s not so bad trying to figure stuff out.

Just tell your friend that with a new MMO he needs lots and lots of patience! :)

It's a good thing some of you missed out on the days of telephone modems and busy signals.

I don't think you could have handled it... lol...

Yeah this has to be your first MMO. Go back to the 90s and try EverQuest on a 56K. Jeez I swear people never look into things before they buy them.

The good ole days of BBS's and playing on a "server" with 7 phone lines.
My uncle ran a BBS and it had some space text game you could play with other people. It was awesome! :P

Making a video game is a monumental effort. Makeing a good one is even harder. Making an awesome one that every one loves is near impossible.

If it was easy everyone would have a billion dollar game industry in there 10 year olds room.

I like the game. I think they have done a very good job in a short amount of time.

That sounds like Tradewars to me. I used to love that game.

A long time ago on the Space Coast of Florida there was a BBS called Star Trek I. You started off as a cadet, and had access to very few parts of the BBS.

You had to take Star Trek trivia tests to move up in rank. As you did, you'd receive a certain number of credits for test performance and you'd get access to more and more of the site's features.

One of those features was a text-based Star Trek game that let you look through pages of listings for ships, from Garbage Scow to Dreadnought that you could purchase, and then send on missions.

This involved basically answering some line commands that said (S)end ship on mission, or something like that, and it would just tell you that the mission had begun. If you had a garbage scow, you'd have to wait about 6-8 days before you'd get the final result of the mission, and it would be either a certain number of credits with a certain amount of damage, or you might have found some resource with a bunch of credits, or you might (rarely) have your ship destroyed in a fight.

Then you'd have to get it repaired and wait several days to have it repaired before you could send it out again. Better ships got back from their missions in fewer days and would net you more credits usually as a result of the mission.

It was a heck of a lot of fun, and led me to buy the Star Trek Compendium and the Star Trek Technical Manual so that I could get better scores on the trivia tests.... and a Star Trek fan was born.

lol... this has been Captain Kuber's Useless Trivia Hour... we thank you for listenin' ;)
