Why couldnt this be added in the disk? I mean really? I'm not trying to bash on the game cuz It looks really fun but ive been downloading it for the past 2 hours and its only at 46.8% done! I'm going crazy lol. Im trying not to use the computer as much cuz it goes faster if I just leave it. BTW its 9:45 p.m. right now and Im so ****in bored! :O I tried everything to pass the time... even tried reading a book...it waz a FAIL :P ...
Anyways I was just wondering if this could of been added to a second disk or something cuz I thought about clicking the "X" at 30%, but I kept going. and people with older computers or bad connections most likely will just say "**** it" and delete it. Did you guys plan this so it would be faster? or did u not see this comeing?
W00T 50%!!!!!!!!!
BTW if anyone is already done/still waiting on the 10GB patch tell me how you passed the time plz! lol im hella bored!!!
I installed it on my other computer using the DVD. I had a patch that was about 1 GB in size. I don't know what you mean by 10GB...

so much was changed in the last month before the discs werent printed that it cant be helped
this is why some games ship new versions of old expantions, so that you can get fully updated versions(aniversery additions usualy have this)
I turned the downloader on the night before launch and went to bed. When I woke up, I had a tiny, tiny little nothingth of a patch, then was ready to play.
I don't think the patch is 10gb unless your downloading an entirely new version of the game. Usually it's only a few hundred Mb to 1 Gb but it's also simultaneously reading the 10Gb worth of game files already installed and installing the updated files.

The entire STO program folder on my computer is only 8 gigs in size. So there is no way you are downloading a 10 gig patch. Maybe you're accidentally downloading the entire game client, not just a patch. It still should not be 10 gigs though.
i fully downloaded the game from steam and that was less than 10GB, whats this about a 10GB patch?
There is no 10GB patch. Someone's game updater is confused and downloading the game client again. It's happened before on Steam. Which it is why it is best to just download with Steam and let the game client do its own updating.

It's the way the launcher works with cryptics file system. It uses compressed files.
That's why there's a difference when you download a patch between "patched" and "received". You'll receive less than what the patcher says it needs to update.
I think that's right anyway, was just on my way to bed. It's along those lines though. If cryptic were to uncompress their files the sto folder would be over 10 gigs.
Anyway, over time this issue has popped up in various forms. Before launch it was more attributed to files going wonky, if the patcher sees any discrepancy in any 1 file (say a kliingon head file in the texture 2 folder) in any of the compressed folders, it will download that whole folder again (the whole texture 2 folder).
It was most cried about though when there was a steam snafu, which I can't help with but there's tons of discussion/help for it around the forums.
I use a december installation file I downloaded from fileplanet back during the end of CB and it works just fine, downloads just barely over a gig I believe when I reinstall as a single patch. I would think if your installing from disc and it's wanting a 10gig patch something in the fileset has already gone wonky
When the Holodeck is down, you are unable to patch the game so you are most likely patching Champions or the upcoming Star Trek Public Test Realm. (which is why it is so big)
When the shard comes back up - you will be patching to ST.0.20100208b.9 which should be nowhere near 10gigs.
Well I pressed the cancled the patch and im reinstailling the disk... And for somereason its takeing even longer to install... so hopefully this is just one big bug.

If that is what you are talking about.
they have an issue where the updater tries to download the entire game every time
launch stol from its own exe and the launcher will download only the patches, about 1gb
