For no reason i got a 24 hour chat ban put on my account today. I dont talk in zone chat much because im in a fleet so theres no reason for this to happen im 35 and i see no need to act like a fool in chat so why did this happen. Cryptic devs = wow devs randomly baning players with no reason?
The 24 hour silence ban only happens when multiple people report you for spam (I've heard it's not a small number). So you must have done something to get multiple people to report you for spam. Or perhaps one of the chinese gold spammers has access to your account?

Cryptic decided to automate their system so that when x players report you you get silenced.
I'm certain that this won't be abused at all!!
One man's recruitment is another man's spam.
Keep that in mind when you're posting...
...if enough people can't stand what you're saying, irregardless of what it is... and take the time to list you as spam which puts you on /ignore...
...well, incoming 24hr squelch.
Can't say I disapprove.
This is flat out bull ****... i also got this. Just because i speak the truth in zone chat. no more zone chat. It's totally unjustified and stupid as ****. I can't talk in zone, local, private messages, can't reply to friends, can't even emote FFS. This is another one of those great moves Cryptic. Thank you for being as stupid as you guys are.

So,my fleet,we were thinking we need to find out just how many reports it takes to silence someone.

Maybe we'll use you as a test subject.
Still approve?
Go for it.
But do consider the implications of your actions. Using the /spam feature to label conversation as such is one thing. Doing it to another out of spite is another.

I can't possibly imagine why anyone would feel the need to report you. Really, I can't fathom it.

If you type THE truth that everyone else accepts, then I'm sure you wouldn't be squelched. If on the other hand, you're typing YOUR truth and no one else wants to read it, then the system worked as intended and enough people decided that you were spamming and so reported it as such which then squelched your ability to chat.
Go for it.

Thank you for making my point.
This will be done out of spite.
I'm all for giving people options, like more channels.
When you say you approve of a mob mentality deciding if you get to talk or not, I'd consider the implications of YOUR actions.
I hate spam too, but give me a break.
Giving players the ability to silence other players is just BEGGING for trouble and grief.
Just give em some channels like /recruit /trade and /global

Freedom of speach doesn't exist. Bunch of nazzis if you ask me. (and that's my truth. Report me.)

STO is on a closed system run by Cryptic and Atari. They are responsible for handling what is and is not allowed in the chat. STO is not your average city street, highway or corner. Freedom FROM speech is the issue here evidently.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
The first thing to notice here is that, contrary to popular opinion, this amendment does not give people rights to free speech, freedom of religion, freedom of the press, or freedom of assembly, or the right to petition the government for redress of grievances. In fact, the Constitution does not give people any rights whatsoever.
Instead, it operates as a restriction on the interference with rights rights that preexist both the government and the Constitution. In other words, the reason that the Constitution called the federal government into existence was to protect the exercise of pre-existing, fundamental rights. The purpose of the Bill of Rights was to ensure that the government didnt use such power (the power to protect rights) to infringe or even destroy such rights.
You are wrong. It's just waved when you agree to a Terms of Service agreement/contract. Don't like it? Simple, don't agree to the ToS and whine away with all the bad words you want, not directed at you quoted person.
Semantics really, but it does exist, just not when you wave that right for forum/game access.
Remember freedoms work both ways, you want the freedom to spam? Others will have the freedom to report you.
And if people abuse the system to harrass someone, what do you think will happen to them? Once Cryptic finds out they have a mad customer because your butt hurt fleet or emo group abused the system and they find out there was no spam, look to be moderated/banned from the game.

We already have a global where all sectors can chat, and the channels you mentioned will also turn into spam channels, look at trade in WoW for example, just doesn't seem to be a way to stop spammers and sellers properly.

And in this regard Cryptic failed miserably.
Lets face it the wow spam is VERY minimal compared to this spam fest.
Giving Mobs of players power over individual players is going to bite them in the (tribble)
What cracks me up is why anyone in this game would actually buy gold, I'm level 37 and I'm frigging rich.

I'm not against a /recruit channel.
Nor am i against allowing the community to report spam...
..or sufficient such reports auto squelching an individual for 24 hrs.
And I am not against you using the system to grief me.
I am a pacifist, any suffering you inflict upon me I invite, as a retrospective object lesson for you to evaluate in a decades time... if and when you are ready.
If I am to be the chosen outlet of your frustration, then so be it. I only ask that you do so with eyes open.

But does a TOS on a video game supersede our nation's Bill of Rights?
Also while you may face the consequences of speaking freely flaming/ people disagreeing with you/ being asked to leave/ etc... isn't preventing someone from speaking freely quite simply a violation of the Bill of Rights?

Make it so that you can have in game guilds/fleets/clans
then silence ppl for trying to get ppl to join them
