Let's say I put points in Research Science Vessel as I'm leveling up. When I level past this and upgrade to a Long Range, Deep Space, or Recon science vessel, what is the point of me having put points in Research Science Vessels?
Should I just skip the lower tier 'science vessel' skills and save them for more versatility at endgame, or am I missing something?
I am only at LtCmd, but the science ship box I have there says.....that the points count toward the use of all science wesseles.....I don't know if it says that for all ship classes, but it most defently says it for the first one I got.
Until a respec system is effectively put in place, I wouldn't bother putting points in them. You're just going to gimp yourself.
That's what I thought. That's an incredibly stupid system...either you're gimped on your speed/stats while leveling, or your endgame is gimped. Sigh. So much for PVPing before Admiral.

Yeah, the one at Lt. Commander is for all science vessels, but starting at Commander and up, the skills are only for one specific type of science vessel (or any other vessel).
And since each tier of ship is better than the last, putting points in those skills means you wasted them once you level up to the next rank.
But the skill point system used means you have to spend all those points before you can gain a new rank so you can not save them up to put them into higher level skills.
So it is not wasting of the points. But the lower level skills should boost the higher level ship classes. So since I have lvl 9 in Escorts that should also boost Heavy Escort ships as well as Fleet Escorts, etc. They are still escort ships, just one is a lot better than the other.

True, but you can just put your points in one of the many other skill trees to get around it and still level up.

you dont need any ranks in the mid ships to be effective in PvP

Sweet, this is the kind of info I was looking for. Thanks!
