There is no official word on that. We will have to see and I try not to make assumptions.
The Devs have stated they're shooting for Thursdays to be their patch day. That only leaves one possible assumption: tonight's patch is to fix a problem they've detected. They don't shutdown on a weekend for the heck of it.

Yes but they never said that Thursdays are the only day to add content no matter how small it might be.
Edit: I would hope if its only a "performance fix" patch then they would keep the format of the below post.
We will be bringing down Star Trek Online on Sunday, February 7th from 3 AM PST to 5 AM PST (11 AM to 1 PM GMT), in order to perform maintenance, and apply a new patch. We will update this thread once this maintenance has been completed.
UPDATE: This downtime is strictly server maintenance to work on performance issues. No gameplay changes.
Word on the street is that it's to add more asteroids. Some systems were missing any.
I can see how that's important but I'm still a little disappointed that we're not getting any more 'Aid the Planet' missions in Clusters - can't tell you how much I enjoy those
1. All weapon auto-fire capability
2. Bind in locations when using Transwarp.
3. Fauna added to the Flora on planets
4. Crafting stations with the ability to fine tune all your ships componants
5. All locations in missions will show cleary on Galaxy map, showing you the route to them(have you read chat lately? most questions are , "where is..."
6. temp powers and weapons drop. Limited use.

Is this what you'd like to see or is this what they're supposedly doing, and if so, how did you come by this?
Also: stupid noob question, what's a respec? I've heard people complaing about the lack of it, but I dunno what it is...

First 4 i'd like to see.
Number 5 just goes to show how many people are smoking weed while playing STO, seriously 9/10 missions say were to go, if you really cant be bothered reading the text and pressing M and selecting system list then you should just quit at life.

I agree one hundred percent. I get tired of time and energy being wasted on the lazy. The people who give five seconds of thought to a problem before asking "how do I?" are what eventually lead to the dumbing down of everything. The addition of a direction for the scans in a system for anomolies (sp?) was awesome though.

From thread: http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?t=107581
So far this patch has no such update so I hope some game play/content elements are fixed/added.

The lack of miniskirts IS a critical problem.

.....
STo has a serious asteroid problem... it needs some Preparation-A.
And a spellchecker - loads of them are called 'asteriods'
Indeed.

I'm sorry to say, but that's the Admiral Rank.

Ah, the good ol' Preparation-A. Thats one of my favorite ships.
Resetting your skill points if you believe you spent them poorly: "respecification".
Nopers. Its the Captain rank insignia.

Why the heck do they call it the Admiral Uniform in-game then?

Um...you see its...it has to do with...
*shrugs*
But the real WoK Admirals uniform also has gold piping along the flap. The in-game uniform doesnt. Kind of like this:
