I think my High Yield Torps are buggest - never used em before but this doesn't seem right. I hit the HYT I button and it starts a 30s cooldown for HYT. It ALSO starts a 30s cooldown on my torpedos!??! So I can't actually fire a torpedo until the HYT I buff which would affect my next torpedo has worn off.
Happening to anyone else? Seem like a bug or am I doing something wrong here?

I had this happen to. The worst part was every time I tried to fire my torpedos it would RESET the 30s cooldown on my torps. I had to sit and wait for 30s without firing in order to use them. At least that's how it visually looked. I didn't see any torpedos coming out.
Either you're bugged, or you're doing something wrong. The 30 second timer on your torpedo icon is just the timer for how long they're able to be HYT. It isn't cooldown.

I don't have that problem. My Lieut Tach officer ahd High Yield I and High Yield II, I can use one when torpedoes reload I can used the other, I have enough time for another shot or two to reset.
Is it possible the target is not longer in targetable arc?
I haven't had this happen. There IS a 30 second timer on the torpedo button after using HYT, but at least for me, it only indicates how much longer the HYT will be active. I can use the torps during the timer, and if I use it in time, it all works properly.
Its a countdown, not a cool-down. You have about 30 seconds to get your firing arc lined up to use the high yield. You won't notice any difference with your torpedoes unless you're using plasma torpedoes - because the high yield function produces a "heavy plasma torpedo".
Hmm don't have that issue. It starts the 30 second count down on my torpedos that you have to fire within or it is wasted.
I think this is the bug. I haven't been able to reproduce it, but when I had it happen it was very clear. My torps were dithered even though they should have been active with HYT 1 up and every time i tried to fire it just reset it to 30s on the torp cd without firing.
Likely this has something to do with the way the server handles player actions, similar to when you use abilities but then 5s later they were just never used and are still available.
This bug happens to me sometimes too along with torpedoes not firing if you've *just* flown past the firing arc but the cooldown starts anyway. I'm assuming that this is a lag issue of sorts.
I forget if there's a ticket in the bug system for it yet. Best add it in if there isn't.

it puts the 30 cool down but when you are in the arc it will fire and will fire 2 torpedoes. Now if you are using spread instead of high yield then it will not at time graphically show that you fired but if you look at the Damage being done it will show up on the target. If you have your graphics set to low this will cause this.
This may be similar to the issue when you aren't moving and hit your run button you have to wait for the sprint cooldown despite the fact that it didn't do anything. Maybe I'm hitting the HYT when torps are out of arc and it is locking me out for the entire 30 seconds even when I bring them back in the firing arc because I triggered it when I was out???
It doesn't happen every time. Sometimes I'm able to get a torp off. But often I just sit and watch the 30 second countdown after I've hit all my shield dropping abilities, have my tractor up and my enemy pounds me laughing that I'm not shooting his exposed hull with my torps.

The 30 seconds is how long you have to use the torps. After you trigger your HYT ability, hit the button to fire the torps.
