Travel & Quest Mapping = Boring & Headache

I know a lot of players will agree with this, I hope Cryptic improves it.

Of any MMO I have played, the mapping and travel in this game stinks.

Traveling can be confusing, slow, and at times a headache when plotting courses to your next quest area.

We all know that this is "Star Trek", the pure basis of this game is to explore. I can agree that uncharted areas, barren planets, and empty space sectors should all be subjected to unknown travel. But when it comes to "main" traveling and charted quests given to you by Starfleet, the ships computer should warp you right to the spot, better then it does now.

It drives me crazy that areas are within areas and the information to get to those areas is a bit vague. The main map should show your correct travel direction and stop turning your ship around, facing north all the time, even when crossing borders. Your travel icon should face your travel direction. When teamed, your teamates should show up on the galaxy map too.

Travel also has nothing to do with enemy encounters because you can just avoid NPC activity or warp out of the encounter. PvE sectors need to have pockets of open PvP routes and more NPC activity, this would add a realistic feel to travel amongst the game. If all the areas of travel are just slow paced ways to get to a quest area, then just eliminate the time sink and make the "Trek" more meaningful.

Every MMO player will tell you, anything that burns or wastes time and has nothing to do with the progression of the game, can become a torn in the side.

Pockets of PvP areas...for some reason that makes me think of what the Neutral Zone area in the beginning of The Wrath of Khan looked like on the display screen. It would probably work the same way, too. You cross the border and are immediately ganked by multiple hostile players.

I do agree that there needs to be better direction to quest objectives. The text in the quests needs to be polished a bit more in this way, and some more information on the maps (normal and galaxy) would be nice as well. Things like dots showing where your objective is on the various maps...those kinds of things.

wasted 3 more hours last night roaming in circles to get to areas. If I had a dollar for every time I saw a player asking "where something was" last night, I would have a big pocket full of money.
