Has anyone heard anything yet? I know they said they would be in-game and in the C-store, just curious if there was any progress... not complaining, just asking.
TC: I suspect this is something you've talked about to the community, because I can't imagine you haven't gotten a thousand forum posts about this, but where does Cryptic currently stand on letting players respec their characters at some point down the road?
CZ: Definitely respec is on the way. We're working on getting that in, making sure that gets out in the next month or two. It is something we definitely want in the game. It'll always be available with microtransactions, but more importantly you will be able to earn the ability to respec your character ingame. So, definitely it's coming. One hundred percent.
" It'll always be available with microtransactions" why am I utterly unsurprised. I think the ONLY reason for the cap is so that people will be "encouraged" to pay more then the monthly fee.

yes, I remember when they posted that,w as just hoping there had maybe been an update.
One would think if they were so hasty with cap they would be also this fast with giving us respecs. Hmm, silly me, it is always easier to mess things up then repair them. Imo, we should had respecs the very moment they added cap.
Well, you see Re-specifications are not built into the game, because the game was never meant to have any. The game was designed, developed, advertised, and promised as one -WITHOUT- skill caps, so that all players would automatically have the identical potential to eventually acquire all skills... It'd take a VERY long time, but it could be done. Thus any wasted SP would at most be a temporary inconvenience, not a play crippling mistake that one would dread. By default, everyone in the game would automatically be balanced, and in fact could not become unbalanced as everyone could do what anyone else has done
At the last minute however, despite the flagrant lies of StormShade (Cryptic's Public Representative in charge of fraud and deception), they figured they could make a money grab at the users of the game by tacking on an arbitrary and obviously broken skill cap system solely so that players would HAVE to respecify their characters. The short sightedness of Cryptic of course is that they don't have a mechanic in place to allow for any means of re-specifying a character within the game, so what do you think the first available route will be?
If your answer as "through the C-Store, like every other bauble they've tacked on at the last second", then you would be right.
This is nothing more than a way to willfully break the game just enough so that people will continue to play, and all the while pretend like they are providing a service of respecifying, the only problem is that neither the respecifying nor the breaking of the game should have been done nor were necessary in the first place.
It's really quite sad that they would falsely advertise the game, and deceive the players so purposefully with the obvious intent to create yet another venue of micro-transactions to fill their coffers with...
On the up side, the future possibilities of Cryptic's and Atari's representatives in politics looks stellar, what better job for them could there be where they are not only expected to lie, it's typically what they are paid to do.
I think that the cap is in to stay now, they have had the opportunity to announce that it was a temporary measure until the level cap is raised to 50. With no word from them after the amount of posts on this subject I think it is safe to assume it is permanent. Most likely they will be fiddling with the skill tree to make it make a bit more sense, the reason i think they have not announced any intentions is they want to keep people just past the 30 day mark so the subs etc become active and non refundable. If they make any announcement at this stage they think they will lose some subs, so they are keeping quiet.

This is probably true, we can see that in 45 day patch - we will have to pay for a month to see it. But I wont probably be here by that time. I am captain now, Admiral next week. Seeing that epic loot is proton and tricobalt, which skill I cant train (at least not with ship skill) I see no reason to stick. Progression is really borked right now.

Well, since you're not complaining about it, I will.
Respecs should have been in the game at launch if they were going to cap the skill system. I'm an Admiral, I've spent points in ways that I'm generally pleased with, but there are 1200 dead points in my build that I'd like to fix.
Remember, Cryptic's patsies, the apologists, and the never ending assortment of the ignorant were all saying everything was going to be rosy, nobody would max out very quickly, the skill points available in the (broken) game system they tacked on at the very last second would be more than enough and would be panacea...
Actual results:
1) Not one single player anywhere, has benefited from the change at all. No argument can be made by anyone, either Cryptic lackeys or the apologists, can claim anymore that it either aids balance, because it is the direct CAUSE of imbalance now. Nor can they claim that it improves the game in any way, because it is the root cause of what is breaking the game in so many ways.
2) The reasons for the last second change, and that's what it was no matter what StormShade's flagrant lies proclaim to the contrary, now are clearly motivated for no other reason than to implement a C-store method of re-specs so that Cryptic/Atari can ring up a few more microtransactions off of respecs which wouldn't have existed, and currently don't, if there had been no asinine cap but some greedy suit -TOLD- the development team it was the way to fly.
3) An atmosphere of lies and deceit has grown so thick around everything Cryptic says that it's enough to choke the life out of anyone with even the most modest measure of sanity or deductive reasoning skills. Every single one of their claims have been exposed as nothing more than lies, and what's more they not only force feed the community their plans to effectively connive their way into our wallets some more, but to actually have the gall to lie about their intentions straight to us.
Sure, Crypic is going to probably get respecs into the game... In the next month or two... Meanwhile, numerous people have already maxed out... (their methodology need not be called into question in this thread) That screams out to me that there clearly isn't enough to keep people occupied at max level since they clearly are already there, but they can't continue to master new skills, because Cryptic has seen to it that they can't...
What;s really unfortunate is that they put the skill cap in before they even started thinking about respecs. That respecs are 1-2 months off just goes to show how ill-considered the skillcap was in the first place.
That they launched the game with the skills as poorly documented as they are is aggravation enough, but that they're going to take another month or more to put in re-specs...
Respecs are 1 or 2 months out? If thats the case I may as well reroll now. Was really hoping to see this get implemented sooner, but theres no sense wasting more time on a character with mistakes in the skills. Easy to make those too since this is a brand new game. Gah.
This really needs to be the #1 issue on there plate. I don't care about the skill cap, it makes since to me. You don't wanna have everyone exactly the same, that will get really boring. But you MUST give the ability to respec with a cap. 1 to 2 more months is unacceptable. Tons of people are already at admiral now, 1 to 2 more months is gonna feel like a lifetime stuck with skills they don't want or the ability to play a different style without having to grind up a new character with the limited slots available.
This really needs to be added before or at the time the Raidisodes are put in so people can set up teams easier.

Thanks for replying :-)
was posted in another topic, 1-2 months

We need respecs. A week and a half ago.
